Kyokushin Karate has a low kick with tremendous destructive power, a middle kick that hits the lever with a feint, and an irregular high kick from a very short distance. In addition, the steel bodies that attack each other with bare feet are notable. Akimoto, who has such a backbone, has experience in kickboxing glove techniques, so it is inevitable that pure kickboxers and Muay Thai fighters will be defeated one after another. The other day, he took the title by destroying the thigh of ONE FC's Muay Thai champion with a low kick. GSP, the legendary UFC champion in the MMA world, has the same Kyokushin Karate backbone as Akimoto.

I think the hardness of karate is what makes it special to me. Each individual karate strike has so much intent behind it. It think point sparring forces karateka to spot an opening, hammer it once, and recover before a counter can connect.

Kyokushin is the only Karate syle that is pretty much tough as nails, if they learn boxing, they can compete with Muay thai fighters. I hate all other styles cause they adapted the point based system, Kyokushin on the other hand is like the original Okinawan Karate.

@lordofd7111that's not true, it is the other way around. Kyokushin adopted the hard sparring style from Goju-ryy and made it their main sparring style. Goju-ryu already had the hard style, but trained it irregularly unlike Kyokushin that trains it regularly.

As a shotokan-style practitioner, its absolutely beautiful to see how effective even simple and subtle strikes can be seen to have its roots in karate, especially when its as effective as this. Oss! Edit: I like how people are acting as though by saying "shotokan-style" practitioner, I'm immediately saying its better than Kyokushin, or that Shotokan is generally worse than Kyokushin-- I'm just representing a sport I love, y'all. Karate is karate, effectiveness aside its an honour just to be a part of it. I don't care if its better or worse-- MMA is many parts of a whole, and I'm proud just to be a part of it regardless. Oss!

We always see MMA (even kickboxers and muay thai fighters weirdly enough) fighters nowadays having sloppier striking and sometimes wrestling because of the fact that they could get away with it. But as soon as they meet a competent striker or wrestler you could suddenly see them be a little less confident in their striking or wrestling and end up getting hurt. They could still get away with sloppy technique, but any good fighter would just capitalize on it.

This is pure Kyokushin. Thai fighters don’t really focus a lot on speed. Also the way he executes his round kick is not Muay Thai. In Muay Thai, you take a small step with your standing leg so you can easily rotate and follow through your kick. In Karate you keep your feet planted on the ground and snap the kick like a whip. And Karate fighters also tend to pull their hip back a little bit if they are in a punching range.
