I need to try Uni....live in Oregon and a LOT of ours get harvested and shipped around the world. Not too hard to get from what I understand, just go down on a minus tide and poke around the deeper tide pools and rock. Not sure I'll like it, but worth a try once at least!

Hiro, read the Bushido Shoshinshu. Great book. Read it in English 20 years ago, and it's what the author said was closest to the "spirit" of the Japanese! A lot of great stories in that book. I was totally right! That uni in California reallly go into the marrow eh? Another great video! Hope to come see you at the home base one day!

Not a big fan of Uni. But, live Scallop is the best. So buttery and clean, non fishy tasting, still moving on your plate. Awesome stuff.

Yeah, that first one wasn't alive, you could see its innards (gonads) were trashed and it wasn't moving. That thing suffered impact during shipping. I'd be afraid to eat it.

Shock frozen is what probably 80%+ sushi places use. Shock frozen is kinda like reverse cooking, it kills anything you dont want in sushi. Dont see why it would be bad if its from a trusted source.

Never been a fan of Uni unfortunately. Everyone that likes it really loves the stuff. Ill have to try it again at some point; maybe the Uni wasn't the best quality. Looks great though!

I love nori. I would sometimes, if I didn't feel like running out to get some salmon or tuna, I would just make myself some rice maki with a little soy running down the middle or maybe with some carrot and cucumber and tofu if I had some. I tried chunky peanut butter maki but that wasn't so good with the rice...

Technically it's the genitals... if you look closely, there are hundreds of tiny eggs. Lower life form genitalia though isn't really gross. I don't stand for eating the genitals of higher life forms, like bull's penis... if you've eaten a hot dog before, there's a good chance you've had animal genitals.
