I was born with this condition too in 1997. In Greece only some doctors know how to handle this case. I was born in a small town and the doctors said it was just a constipation although I was wearing diapers until 6 1/2 y.o until I went to surgery. God bless my doctor in Athens Mr Geroulanos. I understand exactly how you felt and feel for this condition and also your family.

By once I entered middle school I knew something had to change. I started playing sports, dating girls, just growing up. Comes a point in life where we know when we gotta go

25 yr old with Hirschprungs here, I had one pull thru at 7 months old that did NOT get all the anganglionic colon, wasn't until 7 Years old that I had a second pull thru preformed, which got the remaining diseased colon, but was an extremely complication filled recovery process. So much so that I just laugh when any doctor asks me for medical history. Jealous of the kids with only one or two scars, and no trauma. Definitely will not have children unless HD cannot be passed on. I went though hell.

Can someone please clear my doubt. Parasympathetic nerves usually cause contraction of smooth muscles of GIT right... then when there is absence of parasympathetic ganglions, then the smooth muscle must relax... then why is the uninnervated distal part of colon constricted in hirschsprung's disease?

I too was born with this condition. I was misdiagnosed with colic and my mother’s concerns were downplayed by the doctor. It was not until I was five that I had developed a total bowel obstruction that led to peritonitis and a three month hospitalization where I lost 1/2 my body weight, nearly dying. Then for 20 years I still had chronic constipation and poor weight gain for the surgery only resected the ruptured portion of the transverse bowel, probably leaving what caused the blockage intact. However, I somehow managed to recover by the use of fiber and stool softeners… and an infrequent use of an enema. Your great video, I hope, will help someone else from going through what I had gone through as a five year old, sixty-one years ago!

@@Mjjfanforever988 Because much of my transverse colon was removed, the main symptoms during my childhood was chronic constipation alternating with rare bouts of diarrhea, but strangely that mostly disappeared after I started work as a nurse for 40 years (maybe I picked up a bug!). Now as I have retired the constipation has come back but is manageable with a daily dose of fiber, fluids and with a balanced diet. Once in a while I still get cramping at my old ostomy site for the bowel was brought and attached there - but no pain.

I almost died of this in '98, 6 months after I was born. The doctor who did my surgery did the best he could but 21 years later I started having these spells where I would throw up bile uncontrollably for days. Usually it was when I was under intense stress, when I had my period, or when I performed high-level movement activities for a prolonged time. I was in and out of the hospital for three years in my early twenties until I almost died again and had to be held in a hospital for a month or so. I found out after my second surgery that my scar had healed and amalgamated with my intestines which caused all sorts of complications. That was few years ago, I can say it's gotten better even though never quite gained my weight back. I did get hospitalized again last year for a week but I think I can chalk that up to working 7 day weeks. I try to avoid stress as much I can now, and I white knuckle my painkillers during menstruation but overall with yoga, good nutrition and a shit ton of water, I think you forget about it.

@hassansamore6063

In this disease parasympathetic(which control relaxation of gut) ganglion nerve cells are absent. The sympathetic(which contract) nerve cells are intact. There is no opposing action which leads to contaction.
