All advice welcome: I am considering a switch to tech sales but I'm torn because I'm a few years away from gaining enough experience as a data engineer to return anytime without starting from scratch if sales doesn't work out. On the flip side, there are lucrative opportunities in sales now, and some friends are already thriving. I'm contemplating seizing the moment, but it feels like a hasty decision without a career safety net. Any thoughts?

Funny I was just with a couple datascientists in the sauna yesterday. What career path do you feel most excited and passionate about? Where do you think your natural talents are best suited to shine? Money is an important motivator but meaning is most important in the long run if you want to maximize your happiness. I love sales because I love people and get paid to build amazing relationships. I was just chatting a with CTO customer of mine of 3 years who has become an incredible mentor and friend and that elevating relationship came from tech sales. I love sales because I can make a lot of money and eat out everyday if I want to, fund my passions, and new experiences without feeling limited. I love sales because it groomed me to be an entrepreneur. The only people who sell more than sellers are founders and CEOs. I love sales because it demanded I become a more confident, self aware, and badass version of me able to make more of an impact not just for myself but for others. That’s a quick snapshot into what makes tech sales meaningful for me and maybe you’ll see something in it for yourself. In sales you need to be willing to risk and trade in comfort for the opportunity to win outsized gains and if you get to the enterprise level you can make 7 figures. If you do choose to transition to tech sales go for the best data and AI companies in the world like snowflake, databricks, GCP, AWS, and Vast Data where Mikey is. Companies like databricks are very technical sales and you’ll be able to use the knowledge you developed to hit the ground running. Life is an experiment especially when you’re young and risk taking is a good thing. The sales skills you develop today will help you be more successful in any other career path you choose to go down tomorrow and that’s why I think it’s the best early career path. Sales is a trainable skill set and if you’re committed you’ll learn and improve and make it work. The greatest sellers closing $50M deals have had years where they did not hit quota, have been laid off, and failed. You have to decide if you want to be the man who steps into the arena and is willing to do whatever it takes to succeed. Anyways, enjoy the journey, keep gaining the perspective of others, and keep us all posted!

This man is a liar! I worked for a smaller sister company of Dell Technologies before they merged with Dell, when they were VCE, a subset of EMC. I made 100k AFTER working my way up through the company over 6-7 years, BUUUTTT Everyone be weary of videos like this, I've worked with the geniuses and Sr Solution Architects and Principal Consultants at Dell & EMC who made 6 figures, but NEVER knew a person who made 300K🙄 . This man has never made this amount of money, and people who do make that are SENIOR LEVEL engineers, and they DONT sound & look like this! This is completely false. Based on the lack of depth in his conversation and lack of Cloud Computing/ Datacenter Infrastructure Modernization knowledge and skillset competency expertise..this video is false!! Expect to make between 60-110k, and only on the higher end after 5-6 years with incredible organization & communication skills after learning Hyper Converged Infrastructure full time with VMWARE, cybersecurity certifications after 8-10 hours a day of studying! DONT BELIEVE THIS!
