My mother went through serious hell in the 70s when she was married, then divorced. Men were very abusive, and the laws had to change to give them more support. Unfortunately some women take advantage of these laws now, and put men through financial hell. They had no intention of ever marrying for love. The gentleman in their 20s today are avoiding marriage all together now, to many bad stories out there. I raised my girls to marry for the right reasons and so far its working out for them.

Another great interview Mark. Tim seems like a great guy. I can relate to about everything he said. I would appreciate it if you could keep in touch and interview him again when he comes in July to see how everything went as he sold off his properties. For myself, I'm counting down 3 and 1/2 months till I'm leaving South Carolina and living permanently in Bacolod City. The sale on my house closes in May. Balik Bayan boxes are shipping out. No turning back now. I plan to head towards your way for a visit once I get settled in.

"Good guys attract other good guys". Now there's a nugget. If you want to have friends as an expat....be a good guy. I'm retiring in Thailand at year's end. I have a ladyboy girlfriend who I deeply care about and who will live with me. I know. We're "that couple" who in the minds of some who evoke the worst stereotypes. But she's beautiful, I guess I'm successful and pulled together. We just are who we are. On my visits there, I have been amazed at how open and friendly people have been to us. And as a couple we have already made friends. People who have invited us to their homes for dinner. My guess is that we both try to be good people, aren't embarrassed in the least by who we are as a couple....and I've been astounded by the number of people who initiate conversations with us and want to be our friends. I can't wait to retire there and like this gentleman, drop the burdens of my 40 year career, and enjoy life. Friends are a big part of that. Your videos really drive home the importance of this.

Very depressing listening to his story, What he said about American women is very true, around 95% of them are like that. I gave up on dating sites for the very reason he mentions, they all want you to be at least 6 foot tall, six pack abs, go to the gym 4 times a week, they want to eat at 5 star restaurants, they want weekend getaways to Vegas, at 66 I don't want those things any more. I am retired AF with my military, SS and VA pensions, I would love to go there and live a simple life, I don't need or want a big house or car, a small house with a scooter to get around on and enough to food to eat and a loving girl friend/wife would make me happy. I just cant leave my three little grand kids, I have lived close to them since they were born. I would miss them and they would miss me to much. Hope he finds happiness there with his future wife.

The Philippines are a 3rd world country both in the traditional definition as well as modern. Traditionally was from the Cold War. 1st world was us and NATO allies, 2nd was Soviet Union, and third was the remaining countries. Now it’s used to define a developing country. I personally also like the term developing since 3rd world has a stigma with it.

Going off the gold standard enabled the unbridled debt based financial system we have today however attempting to return to the gold standard will never happen as there’s not enough gold in the world to back our debts unless the dollar is devalued.

Find it baffling that the obvious is never stated about the women there - it's all about show and respect from others. How you're viewed. Having a western guy is like we see having a mansion and Rolls Royce. What are their other options? Living on rice with their parents all their lives? Some poor local guy? Plus they look like they've become nothing. Doesn't get respect or jealousy - another thing they like. But it's always "Oh she adores me, attracted to me". Huh....??? Lol
