This guy realized he was a super aggressive and careless driver and was worried he would hurt someone... so instead of showing an iota of self-control, and being normal behind the wheel, he went out and bought a giant truck, so now if/when he drives dangerously, he's really only putting others in danger. Easy to drive carelessly when you know you'll be fine in a crash. Genius!

We tried to go without owning a car one summer. We both have walkable commutes for FT jobs in our big Canadian city. 3 kids, 9 years and tens of thousands of dollars in savings later, we still haven’t owned a car - we rent or use a car share a few times a month. We aren’t anti-car at all, but it is amazing what even questioning the dependency can lead to.

@@jacoballen5538 We do not need a car during the week (as we both have extremely short commutes), all commodities are within biking or walking distance , including our kids school. So we rent two weekend a month , which gives us a brand new car each time we don’t have to clean or maintain or repair, covers gas and insurance for said cars, and keeps us very physically fit by otherwise not depending on it. Saves around $8,000 a year, according to what the average car owner spends the last time I checked. Sure, I lost out on investing my whole 20’s because of a similar retirement plan of “the economy won’t still be around by then anyway.” Finally I realized that yes, if conventional retirement fails then we’re all up a creek without a paddle, so maybe a better strategy for myself is assuming it will still be around, so I don’t have to spend later years, as a result of my own inaction, eating cat food / dying on the Walmart floor / regretting not making an effort to get my financial house in order when I had the opportunity (assuming any of us even lives that long is sort of a logic gamble unto itself!)

In my experience as someone who has grown up with pets and has my own two dogs (raised them up from little puppies), it’s so much easier just to pay as you go. I’ve never done insurance. It’s expected that yearly wellness exam, vaccines (luckily my vet does 3 year shots) flea meds, heartworm prevention (my vet does every 6 months) and even dental may be routine as a standard of owning pets so we just factor that into our budget. So for us it’s just easier to plan paying for it outright. Now for the unexpected we have a Care Credit account but rarely use it fortunately, we’ve used it twice in the 5 years my dogs have been alive. Once for my female dog’s spay (she had what was believed to be a hernia near the area, was necessary she go thru our vet rather than a low cost clinic, that was 4 years ago) and my Basset’s dental cleaning. They give 6 months no interest and am on track to get the card balance paid off a month early before interest kicks in. Just my experience but in the long run I feel shelling out the $ for a constant payment for insurance doesn’t equal out to what typical expenses are and you’d spend less paying outright, at least that’s what we’ve experienced over time. It’s one of those situations where you could rather put the pet insurance payments towards actual care.

I work for a pet insurance company, and have worth both in Customer Care, and Claims now I work in sales. You are 100% correct, its great for lots of reasons but if you dont read the clause, exclusions fine details.....kind of like any contract, you will be screwed. Pre existing conditions are an easy way to get denied, so even if your pet is relatively healthy, if they had any issue before the start date then it might or most likely be excluded from further coverage. Sometimes permanently other for 6 months from start date. Best advice, get it while the pet is healthy and read it all even if it seems boring. If pet is sick, make sure you understand what wont be covered to make sure it even benefits you to begin with. Seems straightforward but most people even when I explain to them their possible exclusions they still turn around and try to get covered for it.

Even if it makes me money as a sales agent to sell it, I dont when it doesnt make sense for them. Insurance companies are still companies for profit so we have to understand they will increase prices based off the market changes, even if it screws the customer they have to do it otherwise they will go out of business like so many of these new start up insurances. All signs suggest that 2023 will be a year of severe economic pain, I was really hopeful of my investments this year, but all my plans have been disoriented, I've been studying the stock market and I realized some investors made millions from the last recession in 2008 and I was wondering if such success rate could be achieved in this present market. Any recommendations?

Union Electrician here and we are only responsible for a small list of hand tools. Contractors buy everything else including all power tools BUT as someone who loves tools it is VERY possible to blow a ton of money on power tools and hand tools! - Not all plumbers are paid like this - most are paid hourly like other trades (fitters, roofers, electricians). In my opinion, it's the most acceptable thing to get into debt for besides your own medical expenses. Yes, people SHOULD have an emergency fund and/or pet insurance and financial means before adopting a pet, but if you already adopted a pet, then you do what you have to in order to care for them because you agreed to it when you took responsibility for a living being. And if this dude is going into debt just paying for dog food, he's just bullshit spending on other things and using debt for the dog because at 4k a month after taxes is more than enough for some dog food. Buying material junk and eating out is way worse.

I do disagree with you on the car warranties. Not ALL warranties are bad. If it’s through the manufacturer and an OEM loan, it is worth the price. As a technician, a single computer module goes bad, 9 times out of 10 the warranty pays for itself at that time. I hate seeing people without manufacturer warranty because of how complex new vehicles are now, they are much more expensive to fix compared to 10-15 years ago while warranty costs haven’t raised as much.

I have to add that as a plumber is crazy how many random little tools you need it all adds up like crazy. I spent so much money in my first couple years of plumbing

One thing to note on Caleb about the tools, there's always cheaper options for tools. BUT buying a higher quality tool will last you a longer time as the cheaper stuff usually breaks. And with any trade jobs, time is money and you can't afford to have a tool out of commission if you need to use it. Also, a good amount of trade jobs out there require you to buy your own tools. Automotive techs are a huge example of not cheaping out on tools. Especially torque wrenches. You REALLY can't cheap out on those as they are mostly a precision instrument.

I think Caleb would have a heart attack if he looks into the massive scam that Snap On is for tools and how mechanics will spend over $100,000 on EMPTY TOOL BOXES. Lol

Just a note, the glass meal planning kits are wayyy safer than having crap leech into your food from the plastic ones.

Yes, but why buy glass dishes for meal prepping? ESPECIALLY when you buy fast food and gas station food? I prefer my glass food storage containers, but they still have plastic lids.

I'm very curious about Caleb's past and the mistakes he's made. He brings it up a lot but does not provide much context, and I'm sure we all could learn from them

A psychologist would have a great time dissecting Caleb's personality. If he gets big enough it will probably happen.
