That last lyric "Don't ever let go, try to let go" is genius. Don't ever let go, don't forget them and the memories you had together, but try to let go of the pain and continue with life. Really, anything of Steven Wilson's catalog is good to react to. I do agree with the "The Raven that refused to sing" suggestions, but I would also like to throw in a suggestion for "Refuge" for its exceptional lyrics and musicianship. I've also mentioned it in one of the Porcupine Tree reactions, but you should also check Riverside - Second Life Syndrome at some point. In a similar vein with Porcupine Tree but also with clear influences by Tool and Pink Floyd among other things.

@georgechrysokentis13124 жыл бұрын
@@wingstingz4779 That's down to taste, but Pink Floyd undoubtedly helped shape the whole prog genre. Anyone will tell you that, even Steven Wilson himself (to quote him "Because Floyd have made the most timeless records of the whole genre" and also "in retrospect I can see how they are almost entirely responsible for the direction that my music has taken ever since"). That alone for me puts them above everybody else in terms of importance and impact.

For me "Hand.Cannot.Erase." is probably the best album Steven Wilson has put out including all his different bands/projects. This song isn't really connected to the main theme of the album (as far as I know). The concept of the album was inspired by the true story of a normal young woman in London who was found dead in her apartment. She had been dead for several years without anyone realizing even though she had family and friends. There is a documentary called "Dreams of a life" about her. Home invasion/Regret #9 is probably the most popular song after this one on the album. But lisstening to the album from start to finish is the best way to experience it. :)

Hand. Cannot. Erase. was inspired by the story of Joyce Carol Vincent, a woman who lived in London whose death went unnoticed for over two years. She was young and had family and friends, but just no one seemed to miss her. The lyrics of Routine could refer to someone who cut off all contact with her friends and family and is trying to cope with that. I think the video is the filmmaker's interpretation of the song, which doesn't make any of it less touching or heavy. I love the song and film, it gets to me everytime I hear or see it. Would love to see more Steven Wilson/PT reactions, First Regret/3 Years Older, Home Invasion/Regret #9 and Ancestral are great tracks from the HCE album as well. This song is about a women who lost her children and husband to a school shooting and how she cannot let go of the routine she had when they were alive. The song is a little more hopeful by the end when she realises she needs to move on herself but she can still carry that memory on with her. I think we can all learn from this song that we need to not be destroyed by our loses but should honour them by living on and cherishing the memories we had of them. Nina Taybet is the female singer in this and she is immensely talented. I saw Steve and Nina live performing this and it was truly amazing. The last song on the album Happy Returns is my favourite and is more in line with the concept of the album as a whole, the official video is also amazing i highly reccomend watching that next

Please react to Leprous! They are one of the major breakthroughs in the modern prog scene, a band that went their own way and found a very characteristic unique style that sets a new standard in the modern era of the genre. I'll copy/paste a few suggestions I've had for others: Chronic: It's one of those songs that you don't hear about often, because it's not much of a single type of song, but I think it shows a lot of their sounds very well and goes a little experimental as well. Passing: An early classic. First album in 2009 and this is the opener. Still a beloved song by many fans. It hits heavy and should move you in many ways. Even though it sounds pretty original in it's own way, it doesn't define what the band has become later, as they shifted directions later on, but totally recommended. Bilateral: Mid era Leprous. It's not considered a very popular song, but it has everything that can hook you and keep you really engaged crammed in a 4 minute long song, yet doesn't feel like it's too much. Just perfect from start to finish. The Price / The Cloak: Both singles. They are short and do what needs to be done, both different from one another. May give a good peak into what they are about in an easy going way.

Gets me every time! - Great reaction - I was one of the recommenders, glad you 'enjoyed' it. It's beyond music, the video and song combined are art of the highest order. A classic case of the sum of the parts being greater than the whole. On a recent listening party on twitter with Tim Burgess Steven described this as dealing with 3 stages of grief - I don't know how he does it but I'm so grateful he does. Home Invasion/Regret #9 from the album is a classic - it treads on the toes of funk, psychedelia, metal and is a monster of a track.

And such a shame that he almost neglects the album from his live set. The album is studded with gems but he skips it (maybe because most songs feature the saxophone and he'd have to hire a sax player specifically to play songs from GFD thereby increasing his costs). No sax whatsoever on HCE and TTB so doesn't make financial sense for him to have a sax player on stage.

You should definitely check the live version filmed at Royal Albert Hall. Ninet does an impressive job handling vocals for the entire song. And as someone else said, watching the band perform into an empty space makes it so powerful. A minor detail I love about this song is the uneasy feel the 5/4 time signature gives to it. Much like obssesing with your routine in order not to process grief, the music feels very natural, almost as if everything is "okay", yet you get the feel that underneath something is off.
@woghede4 жыл бұрын
A great comment under the live Routine performance filmed in the Royal Albert Hall: "There is something about this being performed to an empty hall that increases the emotional impact 100-fold!!" Even if you don't do that video here, I think you have to see that as well. Ninet Tayeb sings almost the whole song alone (SW does the backing vocals), and ... wow. It is just chilling to hear this song reach its peak moment in that huge hall without audience. Btw, I would suggest Home Invasion / Regret #9 (from the same album) when you feel that you need some new rhythmical & instrumental vibes from Steven :) the album version is huge, and what they did in the RHA just blew my mind. Detonation (from his album To the Bone) is also long and great. Both live versions (along with Refuge live which is also a great one, and a few other great songs from that concert..) can be found at the channel called A humble request.
@Kipex4 жыл бұрын
At first I didn't pay too much attention to this song when I heard it without the video, but once I watched the video it certainly opened up the song to another level. Goes to show he now approaches music from many artistic directions and these excellent Owl House Studio videos are certainly a big part of that. So many music videos do a disservice to the song, which is why I never start by watching a music video, but I'm glad every once in a while there's a gem like this that can actually add to the music.

And the two albums I recommend doing all the way through, whether privately or publicly, to get the full effects of his songs are Fear of a Blank Planet, and of course Hand. Cannot. Erase.

This song makes me think about a tragedy that happened with my family. My uncle was shot and killed last year, a drug dealer meant to kill a friend of him and because he was at the area, he took the blame, mercyless death, he was shot twice, one in his leg and another one on his head while crawled to escape. Its hard to think of this scene without crying. My grandma raised me, in consequence my uncle was more like a brother to me as he raised with me. The worst part was to watch my grandma crying and carrying on doing the stuff she did to him everyday, not changing her routine at all, and sporadically remembering that hes not with us anymore. The funny thing is that her and my grandfather used to mix our names, this still happens today, but now the feeling is heavier. Didn't know this song, thanks for showing it.

What people have posted are correct about the origins of the concept of the album, Joyce Carol Vincent, but that was the jumping off point. The songs after all deal with disappearances and people being removed from lives in one way or another. Also, in various multimedia formats, the videos and/or photography reveal connections between the subjects of each of these songs which lead to further theories of the meaning behind them. But the fun is in investigating and digging all of that up, so I'll leave you to it. ;) Reddit has a lot to offer here. It is really one of the most intriguing albums that he put out because not only is it musically fantastic, but he also put in, or worked with a multimedia team to put in, all of these fun little clues in the various releases to make a little 'mystery quest' about what happened to those people. To start it off: Madeline Hearne is the name of the mother in this video. She disappears later in the album. Have fun!

HCE has been my favourite Wilson work from the moment it came out. However, I always needed to take a break or pause after this song. Most of the time, when you get to listen to that type of album, the climax is at the end and then you take a break; but this one hits right through the middle.

If you want a break out of emotional songs, The Start of Something Beautiful is my favourite Porcupine Tree song, followed by the already reacted to Arriving Somewhere But Not Here. I'd really like to see you react to it purely for the progression the song has over its duration, it just gets better and better.
