There's a rugby history in the black and coloured community that goes back 100 years. The Eastern Cape is the hub for black players. Siya has 3 generations of rugby in his family. What's embarrassing is that somebody of African heritage will refer to Siya as having come from "a Bush."Ugo Monye is second generation Nigerian and Nick Easter is half Afrikaaner. Siya is from a township equivalent to an estate in the UK. Furthermore Siya went to a Grammar school former institute where Mike Catt went. He's had a head-start over state school pupils in England. My point is rugby in SA doesn't have a class divide, it's played at all levels.
@chaseellis80933 жыл бұрын
A township is in no way comparable to a council estate. When they refer to him coming from the bush they don’t mean as in he lived in the wild they mean he didn’t live in a built up city. I played a game for UCT's 'cheese and wine' team and we were a player short. Siya said he still had a game in him having just played 80 for the 1st team. The ref said only if the opposition agreed and only off the bench. They agreed. Siya then with 10 to go single handedly won us that match with two solo effort tries both off the back of retreating scrums. I made a note of remembering the name..
