There's a rugby history in the black and coloured community that goes back 100 years. The Eastern Cape is the hub for black players. Siya has 3 generations of rugby in his family. That's more than black players in the UK. There is poverty economically but there's wealth in rugby in their culture black, coloured and white.

What's embarrassing is that somebody of African heritage will refer to Siya as having come from "a Bush."Ugo Monye is second generation Nigerian and Nick Easter is half Afrikaaner. Siya is from a township equivalent to an estate in the UK. Furthermore Siya went to a Grammar school former institute where Mike Catt went. He's had a head-start over state school pupils in England. My point is rugby in SA doesn't have a class divide, it's played at all levels.
@chaseellis8093
@chaseellis8093 2 жыл бұрын
A township is in no way comparable to a council estate. When they refer to him coming from the bush they don’t mean as in he lived in the wild they mean he didn’t live in a built up city. In the same way people who live in inland Australia are referred to as living in the bush because there isn’t much in the way of opportunities around.

Came from the bush? LOL. We call Stellenbosch 'Die bos' and the uni has produced a ton of quality players but our captain played for UCT. I had the honor of playing 1 game alongside him. I played a game for UCT's 'cheese and wine' team and we were a player short. Siya said he still had a game in him having just played 80 for the 1st team. The ref said only if the opposition agreed and only off the bench. They agreed. Siya then with 10 to go single handedly won us that match with two solo effort tries both off the back of retreating scrums. I made a note of remembering the name..

Remember to the world that is exactly the picture they have of Africa. Put under a microscope, the reality here is that Sports to us is not just a sport . The players all have stories and particularly players of colour who were born into a system that never really gave them much thread to dream and live across boarders. I think that is literal and almost poetic tone that every person who's happy for these players in particular is trying to express.🙂

The '95, '07 & now this here '19 final brought people together in a sporting way for a while but the dark & seedy world of politics was & still is bubbling away & corroding in the back ground. Ramaphosa's speech a couple of days ago sounded like a lot of hot air & although in a strange way sports does bring people together it's just that the reality especially in SA is so much more complicated & frankly just a dream.

Siya is the second black captain. Chilliboy Ralepelle was the first black captain, Siya is the first World cup winning black captain for South Africa. Its called Townships and not bushes.

"He's the guy that pretty much came from the bush." I think this dude is either mistaken the Boks for the actual springboks or is a freaking clown who thought people in SA are still bushmen.

There's nothing as annoying as a western narrative imposing its self on our stories. Which is why its time for us as Africans to look into African solutions for our African problems. ....i mean the people that see themselves as the hegemony of the world can not even perform a study analyses of the country they are attempting to discuss. ''apparently our captain came from the Bush'' . BT Sport we are very disappointing with the content provided by your panel. We deserve an apology.
