If he could, amid his darkest thoughts and sadness, see the warmth and light that you gave his life and felt that this song gave voice to that, then I think you kept him alive longer than you know, and honestly, you will forever hold this song and memory with the part of him within you that will never be gone. He lost his sight as an infant due to retinoblastoma (rare eye cancer) and taught himself to play the guitar when he was just three years old, eventually adopting his trademark style of playing the instrument laying flat on his lap. Jeff Healey, a Canadian guitarist, singer and songwriter whose band sold millions of blues-rock records and who also pursued a passion for old-time jazz, playing the trumpet and clarinet, died on Sunday in Toronto. He was 41.

I was on my way home from work when the DJ on Q107 came on in tears announcing that he had passed. He had battled cancer several times, but in the end he lost that fight. I remember pulling over and shedding a few tears for his passing. He was absolutely phenomenal. As others have mentioned he was in the movie Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze. Angel Eyes was written by prolific Nashville songwriters John Hiatt and Fred Koller. If your kids watched the Disney movie 'The Country Bears' they will have heard John Hiatt as he was the voice actor for the lead singer in the bear band. He also wrote 'Riding With The King' which was a big hit for BB King & Eric Clapton two decades after Hiatt wrote it. (That song with the official video would be great for a reaction!!!)

Jeff Healey was an immensely talented musician, with an equally compelling back story. He was adopted as a baby, & had a rare form of cancer, retinoblastoma, which necessitated the removal of both eyes. On stage whilst performing See The Light, some thought he Had to have some vision to be able to move to the music; would've been a neat trick for prosthetic eyes. I love all his music, but a decided favorite is I Think I Love You Too Much, by another favorite guitar player Mark Knopfler.

First time I saw Jeff was at a bar on Yonge St that hosted open mic nights. Some friends were there with their band and Jeff walked in. Apparently he had been doing that for awhile. This was in the early to mid 80s. He would take transit to Yonge St and he would remember all the places that would let him play. Our jaws dropped seeing this guy play guitar on his lap and he ripped it up!! He played so often that I randomly saw him 3-4 times in the next couple of years. We were doing grip work at the Copa and saw him play there as well. We knew he would get the attention he deserved. RIP Jeff, you are a gift to all who saw or heard your wonderful music!!

I’ve suggested John Cafferty dozens of times. Nothing so far. I’ve given up. Too bad because I saw him in November at Daryl’s House in NY. He’s still great. Amber is missing out on great sax.

Jeff Healey was the Ronnie Milsap of my generation...80's kids. Completely and totally blind but his guitar could still bring people to tears with ease. You want to see or hear great rockin Jeff Healey band music listen to the Roadhouse Soundtrack. That was a true testament of his skill as a performer and especially a blind performer..taken from the world, his family and his fans way to early. RIP Jeff.

I knew Jeff and have been to many of their concerts back in the day. One of the most respected, fantastic guitar players of that era. His unique technique allowed him to play unlike any other. Another great ballad similar to Angel Eyes they did was ”Lost In Your Eyes”, which is a song that was originally performed by Don Johnson of all people, believe it or not. Jeff”s cover version however is so much more beautiful and emotional. If you want to check out some live performances, one of my fav gigs was on the beach in Almere, Netherlands in I think 1992 or 93. Not sure if it’s on YT. They also had one official VHS out of a gig at Hammersmith Apollo from ’89 IIRC. Perhaps someone was kind enough to restore it and upload the entire thing here; the clip you reacted to is from that tape. Thank you for this reaction, I’d never have expected to find a Jeff Healey reaction now, so many years after his passing. I’m so happy his greatness is still being remembered today.

This is just one of the most beautiful love songs among power ballads. My favorite line from the song (which also elicited a smile from Amber): "All you fellows can look all you like; but this girl you see is leaving here with me tonight."

Saw him in the 90s at Lulu’s Roadhouse, Ontario,🇨🇦right up close. Just as good in concert. Fabulous!! I recommend I Think I Love You Too Much, and his cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Wow. Also there is a documentary on him on Netflix ( in Canada anyways). It focuses on his club in Toronto where everyone came to play. The legends.

This was the song for my girl and I. The love of my life. This was for our first dance as husband and wife. If I was a better man, we'd still be dancing to it. Now it serves as a reminder of what I was given and what I foolishly threw away. I'm sorry, Tammy.

Great song written by John Hiatt a fantastic singer-songwriter in his own right. He also wrote Thing Called love which was a hit for Bonnie Raitt (have you covered her on Female Friday? if you haven't you have to. She is amazing. Either that sone or Angel From Mongomery which was written by the late John Prine).
