Full crackpot: hisoka was scoutted by beyond or by ging for purposes beyond the black whale one. The battle clow of course agreed, knowing the troupe would be on the ship, thus setting the stage for his spider hunt. Wanting to cause the most chaos with the least interruptions (no more exploding bodies for you mister chrollo) hisoka jumped someone with tier one access (a guard, a soilder, a lawyer) ripped them to bits and assumed their identify UNTIL he became aware of bonosoka at which time two thoughts occur. "Ah, i no longer have to use this face" and "took you long enough" ans thus set up being seen very publically to draw bonosoka's eyes and hopefully draw out the rest of the spiders so he can begin his hunt in earnst. Or you know... kalluto is dead in a shower somewhere and illumi was actually hisoka all along, he then killed a zodiac, assumed their identity and migrated to tier 1. Not sure if the zodiacs have that level of free movement, but hisoka's combat loving ass wouldn't pass up the chance to break, i mean, play with one of the late isaac netero's toys.

I've heard a theory from the channel SuccWarCenteral that Hisoka was working for the 13th prince, and using texture surprise to disguise himself as Belerainte. There is some evidence to go along with this as since he's locked out of the prince's room he has a lot of free time to do what he wants other than when he has to go to Kurapika's class, also one of Berereinte's speech bubbles contains a heart just like how Hisoka usually has a symbol of a card in his speech bubbles

Perhaps a situation in which the 4th prince becomes such a danger that Kurapika and the Troupe have to work together albeit temporarily to remove the greater threat that they both unknowingly have dark history with. I think the zoldyks would be disinterested in a direct conflict regarding kakin. Bodyguard is a role more suited to the hunter association rather than a group of assassin. It's only after we board the whale that we learn its a fight to death to determine the kakin heir. Then again the fact that illumi and kalluto are on aboard could be a surprise assassination attempt. But it could just be because Hisoka paid them to hunt him.

If Hisoka was hired via the Hunter's Association, anyone with a Hunter License can research that information. That's what the Phantom Troupes did when searching for Kurapika during the York Shin City arc. Coincidentally, Shalnark was the only member of the original Phantom Troupe with a Hunter License, but he's dead. I doubt Illumi would be doing anything pre-emptively to actively assist the Phantom Troupe with hunting down Hisoka.

My little theory right now is that Morena is the secret 15th prince (technically the 9th or 10th prince) this idea is something like Duazuls actual child she was pregnant with at the same time as Unma with Halkenburg (Tubeppa would figure it out easily otherwise).
