Born and raised in Black Sea part of Istanbul, when i was a kid i always imagined that all snowfall events in the world was caused by sea evaporation, named sea effect snowfall. Also thundersnow was a normal event for me. Kinda shocked when i learnt that fronts caused most snowfall in the world except places which sit near water bodies. This is such a common phenomenon in Istanbul, that we usually get not only sea effect snowfall, but also sea effect rains which lasts for days. I remember one time it rained straight for 10 days in a spray form, which only totaled to 10 mm. Black Sea region of Turkey is truly a moisture heaven. Thanks to these type of sea effect, some years we even get 30 inches of snow in just a single storm, 100 m above sea level. Also our latitude is lower than western Europe but we get much more snow thanks to Black Sea.
