Ronnie O'Sullivan equalled Steve Davis's record of 30 Crucible snooker appearances. He reached a record 20th quarter-final and a record 13th semi-final before defeating Judd Trump 18-13 in the final to equal Stephen Hendry's record of seven world titles. It was O'Sullivan's 39th ranking title and 21st Triple Crown title. Aged 46 years and 148 days, he became the oldest world champion in the sport's history, surpassing Ray Reardon, who was aged 45 years and 203 days when he won his last world title in 1978. O'Sullivan also broke Hendry's record of 70 wins at the Crucible, setting a new record of 74.

You forgot he was also the YOUNGEST player EVER to win a ranking tournament (and Triple Crown tournament) when he won his very FIRST tournament- which was the UK Championship!! Can you see a 17 yr old doing THAT anytime soon?!?! 😮 Yes, he started breaking Hendry’s records very young!! (Prior to that Steven held the record by approximately a year when he was 18 and won his 1st ranking tournament.) 😊👍😎🏆✅👌💪

I got hooked on snooker watching Alex Higgins playing Jimmy White in the 1982 World Semi Final. What a great match. I loved watching Jimmy and Alex, but Watching Ronnie has just been incredible. His longevity is amazing. Aswell as his 7 World's, 7 UKs, 7 Master's and 39 ranking titles, he's also won 3 Champion of Champions titles, which is like a Master's. All the best player's of the season who have won a tournament. He is a genius and it's been a privelage watching him since he beat Stephen Hendry in the UK Championship when he was just 17 years old. Such an iconic crucible moment at the end with Judd, then his 2 children coming on to congratulate and cuddle their father. Ronnie was in pieces. Reminiscent of Alex Higgins 1982. The UK is still a prestigious tournament to win, being amongst the triple crown titles. Well done Ronnie and thanks.🚀

When he beat Mark Selby from 16 - 14 behind in the 2020 semi-final on his way to winning a 6th World title. I thought Ronnie winning a 7th and an 8th title was a realistic proposition. My opinion has not changed. The GOAT.

That was amazing when he came from 14-16 behind to defeat Selby. The red he potted from the balk cushion in the penultimate frame was breathtaking. I remember that, Selby was looking up at his missus in the player's family box, thinking I've got this when it was 14-16 to Selby and Ronnie was playing like he didn't care, but he blasted those last 3 frames and shocked Selby who in his spiteful interview said Ronnie wasn't playing the way you should. Who's Selby to say how you should play, when he drags frames out for 80 minutes, it's so boring when Selby goes into boring mode. He's a good player, he should attack a bit more. So glad Ronnie won that Semi Final.

Ronnie in my opinion was the greatest ever at 6 times world champion holder. The main argument for most was the fact that Hendry had won the title 7 times. Now that Ronnie has matched the great Hendry. I believe there can be no doubt he is quite simply the best player there has ever been.

Yes, Ronnie has been also the most consistent over 3 decades; no long periods of time where he didn't win a major tournament., and successful against players from different generations. His other stats are also impressive; most century breaks and the highest century rate at the WSC, highest match-win percentage... He even improved his century rate in the last 8 years or so, in 2015 or 2014 he was tied with Ding at almost 13 frames/century over their careers, in the following seasons his rate has been close to 10 frames/century every season, which allowed him to keep up with Trump's and Robertson's century stats (impressive at his age). In the 2020 WSC he showed that he had become stronger mentally when he came back against Selby, saving his own legacy.

I have been a snooker fan since ages, when I first saw Ronnie playing snooker back in 1996, I immediately felt he was a special player. Indeed he had demons along the way taunting him during the earlier rounds of the WC, like losing in the first round a couple of years ago, and losing to Selby when he was 10-5 up in the final, he shouldn’t have lost that final, but in the end the patience, grit, mental focus, and sheer determination combined with the abundance of talent saw him through. I am so proud of his achievements, it literally made my cry. I have to say that I was afraid to watch the final live and only managed to watch the final from frame 1, 10 days (!) later, depriving myself of any snooker related news up until that point. I am also a Federer fan and couldn’t watch some finals live of the tennis GOAT either. I just can’t get enough of re watching videos of Ronnie claiming his 7th world title and 21st triple crown in total,, lucky and magnificent number 7,7,7. Truly amazing to achieve this milestone at the age of 46 and landing a world title in 3(!) different decades. Ronnie you are the true GOAT of snooker.
@rafatony2804

I thought when I read this, it was something I had written. I told Federer he could have been one of the greats June 24th 2003. He proved the point. (I have always regretted the remark) when I thought he would be a Safin and time would pass him by. When I read the second last line of your wonderful comment I realised it wasn’t me. I looked up and I saw your name. John Higgins has also won the world title in 3 different decades, his first in 1998, 2005, 2009 and 2011. However Ronnie won multiple titles in 3 different decades and is the only player to do so in the modern game. (Crucible’ Theatre Sheffield era 1977 - 2022) 1st decade 2004, 2008. 2nd decade 2012, 2013. Third decade 2020, 2022.

“He has taken the game to new levels. He really has. The century breaks; the cue ball control; the safety game; the temperament; the killer instinct; he has got it all. I said earlier in the week that it would be an honour to be at 7 (World Titles) with Ronnie and it is, because he plays the game the way it’s supposed to be played he is an artist!!!” Stephen Hendry’s thoughts as Ronnie O’ Sullivan equals his record of 7 World Snooker Championship Titles at the Crucible Theatre May 2nd 2022.

In 2008 from the last 8 on he played some of his best snooker ever at the Crusible and in2012 I think it was his best performance from start to finish. The 2013 Final was his greatest performance ever in any match at the Crusible because in the 18 frames he won he made 6 century breaks,6 80+ breaks 3 60+ breaks and 2 50 + breaks which is Still the most 50+ breaks made by any player in a world final. Hawkins 2 centures 2 90s 1 80 2 70s 1 60 break and 3 50+ and Still lost by 6 Frames just showed that O'Sullivan was vertually unbeatable with a 95.58% pot success in that final which is a stand out record itself.

@@ros8010 no mate he's stats tell a different story 2012 was his best performance from start to finish although the 2013 Final was his outstanding performance at the Crusible of every match he's ever played because Hawkins had 10 breaks over 60 and 2 50+ breaks and still lost by 6 because Ronnie O'Sullivan had 17 breaks over 50 with 12 breaks or 80 or more and 3 65 plus breaks with 2 50 plus breaks and I think he'd 6 Centures with well over 95% pot success making that the best match O'Sullivan played in his crusible Career. This year's semi final vs higgins he got 17 breaks over 50 and in the final he'd 16 breaks over 50.Is it any wonder these guys can't get going because the pressure has to be pretty big when your playing against that because Judd himself did 15 breaks over 50 in 19 final and that's the next best.Sure Ronnie did 15 against Hendry in the 08 semi final.Goes to show the guys clearly the best there's been and if someone comes along that better than O'Sullivan at his best imagine how he's going to have to play.I hope i see it but at 29 years old i may gone before then lol.God bless

I was really hoping he'd get those last 2 centuries to get to 17 and break Hendry & Williams record of 16... Even if he had gotten the century in that Championship winning frame... he would have equalled the 16... Maybe, next year... 😉

He has massive respect for Judd Trump. They are good friends off the table. Ronnie says, that Judd plays snooker the right way, attacking all the time instead of safety and playing slowly.

Cemented his place as the greatest ever now. What a journey, what a player. I still remember that babyface appearance as a 17yr old back in 93'. Followed him through all the triumphs and tribulations since then. Thing is, the story isn't over.

Had Ronnie not been addicted to drugs & Alcohol for 5/10 years ,By now he could have atleast Won more than 12 plus World Snooker Championship Title. The world will really missed his presence If he decided to retired from this incredible game of a Snooker but The entire Universe really wants him to keep playing atleast till he attend the age of 55 ,Inorder to give an impetus to popularity of a Snooker to progress further unwaveringly from its present State of Steadfastly growing.🙏🙏🙏

We all recognise his natural talent, but I also think he owes so much of his tournament success to Ray Reardon. ROS was a different player after working with the 6x World champion. No less entertaining, but more mature and less petulant. Ronnie had only won the WC once in his first 12yrs as a professional, before winning it 7x since seeking out Reardon’s wise counsel. ROS can often be a bit cocky and arrogant towards other players, but whenever he’s with or talks about Ray Reardon, you can see just how much respect he has for the guy.

if ronnie had hit the blue or pink at 42:43 he coulda got a century, but ik he was going for the brown so he could cue for the red, it was good cueing but the angle on the red was tough, he was close tho. honestly woulda been nice if he hit the blue or pink or got the red in to end that frame with a century and move on too the finals but it doesnt matter thats just me

Can any of you folks answer a question for me? When a player has already scored enough points to win a frame, why do they go for centuries? Do they get paid a bonus for them, or is it just a cool stat? I can see going for a 147, but just playing for something barely over 100 seems weird. Like here, when Ronnie beat Higgins in the Semi's, it came across (to me) as a little rude to keep playing the deciding frame after he scored enough to win. Mind you, I'm just a dumb American, but I'd love to find out what I'm missing here.
