I am so glad you stayed at Shoshone RV Park. These people really deserve some TV action. We stayed there over Christmas 2020 and New Year had full hook up, pull thru # 10 spot right at the pool and I think you had the same? The pool was open and warm. There is so much "little" stuff to see when you walk around there with all the critters like pubfish, loones, and bluejays. I think a university has partnered to take care of the little wildlife areas in the campground.There is also Dublin Gulch walkable from the campground, an old mining town with miners hooches carved in the rocks. I love Shoshone, and the Crowbar has great food. Have fun and thank you for bringing back my christmas vacation with your video LOL. Your Too cool for school shirts were there LOL. I also loved Baker and bought "Alien Poop" lemonade. LOL. Death Valley is close by Shoshone so that we took many day visits to Zabriski Point, The Ubehebe Crater, Mesquite Dunes, Stovepipe Wells, Furnace Creek, Dante's View, Artist Palette and Badwater Basin and the Borax Mine. We rented a Jeep up there as some of the locations you can't reach with an RV. After the vacation, we found a great Jeep Wrangler in Carmel and now have a toad LOL Greetings from Gilroy. We all love this video and we will be back to explore more.

A trip down memory lane! My best friends Grandpa had a trailer up the road at Tecopa Hot Spring, and his folks would leave us in Tecopa then take the highway to Las Vegas while we ran around the Desert. The highest temp we ever experienced was 130 degrees and we had no AC lol!! Thanks for another Great video!
@genesiesky37563 жыл бұрын
Very interesting to see Shoshone after 50 some years, and the old motel we stayed in now across the road from the Shoshone Inn sign. Around 1970 I was dispatched to this area after a F111 went down up on the hill across the road from the newer RV park. Myself and another guy came in on a helicopter to secure the area while the Air Force from Edwards Air Force Base searched for and removed the dead pilots. Their cockpit ejected but the shoot did not open and they were crushed upon impact. We slept in the old motel off and on with our relief, but prior to that we bivouacked up on the hillside sleeping at night under a boulder. There was no gas station or museum at that time. Just a road running through a few buildings. It's grown up over the last 50 years. Thanks for the video.

Wow, that is real dessert and lots of sand. Love the temp thermometer at Shoshone. I was all excited when I saw people outside the Crowsnest...You would think I had never seen people outside before in my life, No what it is.....is the fact that it is nice to see people socializing again. Boy Russ I am glad you have your program, for I still say it keeps us sane just travelling with you. ....We miss travelling in the States and in Canada, and right now Spring fever is cutting nipping at my heels. This pandemic Russ sucks...I hope everyone is doing great, and keeping well, and I wish you all a great weekend. Great video. Really enjoyed it I've been through Shoshone a few times, but only stopped for gas. I should have tried "The Famous" Crowbar and visited the museum. By the way, no snow in Shoshone (elevation 1585 ft, population 31). The climate there is designated as "hot desert climate." It does snow in the mountains that surround Death Valley, where the elevation is in the 8,000-11,000 feet range.

Russ, I remember back in the 80's- early 90's we would stop in Baker on the way to Vegas. Behind the Thermometer was a restaurant called "The Bun Boy" They also had a motel off to the side. Their breakfast was amazing. Ham and eggs had the bone in ham so large the ham steak would hang over the plate. They also had a strawberry shake with big chunks of strawberry in it. Sadly it closed but became a Bob's Big Boy. (yea!) That only lasted a couple of years and it too is gone. I'm sure by now all those buildings are now long gone and turned into quick buy shops. I hope "The Greek" is stll there.

That drones paid for itself, really makes the video!
If you like Greek food there in Baker, the restaurant there is pretty good. It is at the intersection going up to Shoshone, frame 05:40 .In Tecopa, (you passed by it), there is a Date farm with interesting history. Hot springs there as well. In Shoshone there are caves that minors lived in. In Death Valley junction there is an Opera House. The Lady that ran it put on shows for many years. She is now passed on. East of there there is an Oasis called Ash Meadows. Another interesting place where springs come out of the ground. A place there also called Devil's hole. Nobody knows how deep it goes because it is filled with water. When there is an earthquake on the other side of the Earth, the water ripples and sometimes there is wave action. There are KZbin videos about it and Ash meadows itself.

In the evening time, thousands of rabbits come out and sit on the road (127). They wait until you get right upon them, then they run off the road. It's almost like a game they play with humans. The sunsets are EPIC out there too. Believe it or not, the Manson Family hid out there for a time. @ 12:00 you'll see the Pahrump, Nye County turnoff. Nye County Nevada is the second largest County in America by land mass. The Sheriff of Nye County was the Director of Security at Area 51 before being elected Sheriff. Sharon Wehrly is the Sheriff in those parts. Pahrump has Casinos, legal Brothels, HUGE wholesale fireworks stores, legal medical cannabis... recreational, too... so a friend tells me. Pahrump is like the Alice's Restaurant of Nevada... There is also the Spring Mountain Raceway... the GM Official Corvette Driving School. You can bring your own Corvette, or rent a Corvette for your training. Also, Yucca Mountain is out there. Yucca Mountain is the storehouse for America's nuclear waste which is buried deep inside Yucca Mountain, which is why Pahrumpians have the whitest teeth that glow in the dark. Just kidding. Thanks again, Russ!
