The Pokemon TCG Overview is a video series where I talk about a Pokemon line and how it has fared in the TCG along with other trading card game facts relevant to the Pokemon.
For psychic type pokemon it doesn't get more original and iconic than the alakazam line. This is reflected in the games and the anime but in the tcg the alakazam line had to face a lot of bumps along the way. Not only a matter of getting strong cards under its name but getting any cards at all due to some famous legal events that took place in the early years of pokemon. Having said that, you'll be surprised by the number of all the special cards under its name.

The Stage 2 Alakazam line is a curious case because of the Uri Geller’s threat of a lawsuit if Kadabra was being featured again. The last appearance of Kadabra in the TCG was before the ex-series. Since then, the only Stage 2 Alakazam card is in DP Mysterious Treasures. The Pokémon Company did found a leeway of making Alakazam SP, Alakazam-EX/Mega Alakazam-EX and Alakazam-V due to game mechanics, but still no Basic Abra or Stage 1 Kadabra. But now that Geller forgave the Kadabra incident (a year ago?), I wonder if future cards will make baseline versions of the Abra line, though it’d be a uphill battle to find a way to make a Stage 2 Alakazam playable.

Too be honest I think they might still not print any Kadabra cards in the future too and Alakazam is going to continue to get the "special card" treatment. Even though Uri Geller is saying he deosn't care anymore there's no guarantees so I think the pokemon company would just play it safe rather than trying to make sure and making deals with him. You never know of course but just like you said regular pokemon cannot compete with rule box pokemon now anyway.

Alakazam finally did it!! The current alakazam is great and fun to play. I just started playing the tcg and it's my first built deck and was wondering why the normal version of the full art is rarer than the shiny one that's how I came to this video just to realise it's previous to the card😅 still new to this so if you know I'd be thankful

Hi, I'm not sure about prices for the ex the full art and the shiny should normally be more expensive than the regular print. There is an alternate art promo though that's not a full art perhaps you mean that one?

@@SaberWolf94 yeah but I mean between both full art, got a couple of the shiny one for less than 2€ yet the normal colour full art is around 15€, do they print less? And why do shinies seem to be more common than normal ones in the tcg?

@@alexv1265 I'll be frank with you, I haven't bought products from the scarlet violet era (my friend gifted some to me though) so I'm not sure. The shiny alakazam ex is from paldean fates and I think that set is cheaper than 151. So the original alakazam ex full art in there must be rarer and more expensive I think. With paldean fates you can get any shiny pokemon randomly including alakazam ex. Ultimately the 151 full art is the original.
