The origin of Nightwing and Flamebird is interesting. They were originally Superman and Jimmy Olsen who shrank down and entered the bottle city of Kandor, where Superman didn't have any powers. They named themselves after two Kandorian birds who were similar to bats and robins, and acted as Kandor's Batman and Robin.

Such a shame they never really used her as she could be a good character in the making. After all most of the batgirls get great story arcs why can't she? My story arc ideas would be a Tomb Raider(reboot) meets die hard(except a big prison with villainous meta-humans) or Murder Mystery Psychological thriller in the same vein as Perfect Blue and Black Swan(even though that movie wasn't a murder mystery). Either way push her beyond her any humans limits and remain relatable can make a better Hero as she pushes through to the end. Also some Trivia she was named after Bob Kane's wife.

Hey, you left out "Hawk & Dove Annual #1(1990) where Hank Hall is reunited with Flamebird, Golden Eagle, Bumblebee, Mal and Lilith. In addition, Chris King aka Hero joins the new Titans West along with the female Dove( Dawn Granger). The reformed Titans West team go on a mission to hell to defeat a few villians. While there, Hawk wishes he could be bring his brother Don back from the dead. After the mission, Bette makes a suggestion about a regular Titans West team but no one is interested. I am a BIG fan of Flamebird! Its funny how I never seen her and Barbara Gordon communicate with each other. You would think that one of the writers @ DC would've noticed this. These two ladies need a moment together.

Betty Kane is first as Bat-Girl Barbara Gordon would follow as Batgirl Mary Elizabeth "Bette" Kane would follow as Flamebird. Next Cassandra Kane would be Batgirl. Last to date Stephanie Brown would become Batgirl. To correct the narrator's inquiry It's in Secret origins Annual # 3 that Bette Kane a.k.a. Flamebird debuted. In The Killing Joke Bruce (Batman) Wayne looks at A frame in which in the picture is seen Kathy (Batwoman) Kane and Betty (Bat-Girl) Kane.then later that year There's a Bat-Girl Cameo on The Last page of New Teen Titans #47.At the top of which it says Yesteryear.Then the following year in Secret Origins Annual #3 would be when The New as well as 3rd to date to be Flamebird would make her debut. Now was there really ever a crossover of Bat-Girl & Batgirl? Perhaps some research might need to be done? On e thing I definitely know is that The New Batwoman a.k.a. Kate Kane did in fact make a 1 page cameo debut in Infinite Crisis# 7 on the last page.

one thing people always forget to mention is not only were people worried batman and robin were homosexual(which was silly)- but also it would have been a pedophilia relationship since robin was a child/under aged youth and batman - well- a full grown man! so that scared people even more.

I've actually read the media reports of it back then. On a social level, people cared more than they were homosexual as most homosexuals back then were just "expected" to date young boys, hence why its not really mentioned. Like, mentioning that it was a relationship in paedophilia would've been like mentioning "and they both have a two hands and two feet". Fortunately times have progressed since then.

I'm not really a "Marvel or DC" kinda person, I just follow the artists and writers I like, I am however a lot more confident in my knowledge of DC. As for the new 52, I thought Death of the family was awesome in regards to the joker. As for Dula Dent in the new 52, I think she's a pretty cool character but she hasn't appeared nearly enough to give a fair judgement on her.

So basically this character was conceived as a "beard" for Batman and Robin's "secret homosexual" relationship? Wow. People in that time were too caught up with the wrong thing. I think it would've had more to do with the appearance of a pedophile relationship than a homosexual one. Namely because Robin was a kid who's parent's just died before his eyes. I mean look @ Bruce & Alfred. Alfred was intentionally made unattractive (or @ least not as attractive as Bruce), so there'd be no thoughts of him & Bruce being in a homosexual relationship. But that all changed with Dick and Bruce, who were both "attractive". Now as Nightwing, Dick is even more attractive and dare I say oversexualized with his butt and bulge being prominently displayed in comics.
