Macromedia did not create Premiere, that was a company called SuperMac (however it was also developed by Randy Ubilios). Also the argument about FCP and Premiere co existing was with Adobe - not Macromedia. Jobs tried to persuade Adobe to create a consumer version of Premiere for the upcoming iMac DV, but they said no. When Apple did acquire Final Cut, Adobe tried to shut it down (with them having the leverage of being one of the biggest software vendors for the Macintosh and discontinuation of their Mac software would have been devastating for Apple, especially at this time). Jobs persuaded Adobe that FCP was different enough however.
