This was excellent. Hawk and Dove were two of my favorite heroes. When Don was killed, well, that really sucked. Then Hawk going off the deep end until Dawn showed up to bring the balance back into the order/chaos aspect of the characters was just good story telling. I am surprised you did not mention that the "evil" Hawk from the future only became that way when Dawn died. When the avatar of chaos decided to create absolute law in her name...

I personally think that the original Hawk and Dove( Hank &Don) are better than the new team. I just like the origin story of the brothers and how their given powers represent them. Hank being the embodiment of Chaos. While Don is the embodiment of Order. They were just a better team in my opinion.

Dove's primary ability which makes her special is a very enhance precognative ability. She makes order from chaos of a battle. Like Arris stated she can sense and feel things before they happen. Almost like Midnighter but I would put his at a higher level. She can dictate the flow of a fight. Hawk besides being strong, fast, durable and a healing factor also has razor sharp claws as well. Weakness which wasn't touched on is when they are away from danger they revert back to their normal forms and have to say the words to transform. Also whatever mortal injuries they suffer while Hawk & Dove, they will not revert back until they are to a safe point healthwise to revert back.

He became Monarch because it was leaked that Monarch was originally Captain Atom.

Don and Dawn are different names; Don is short for Donald. DC's mishandling of Hawk during Armaggeddon 2001 and Zero Hour was disasterous; CAPTAIN ATOM was secretly Monarch, Hawk & Dove Annual #2 even showed H&D in the future fighting against Monarch, but when news leaked early revealing Capt. Atom, DC opted for a nonsensical rehash with Hawk as the villain. In the end, DC had to retcon it by having Metron erase Extant's "wretched timeline" in issue 14 of JSA, then retcon Monarch back into Capt. Atom (as DC originally intended) in issue 6 of The Battle for Blüdhaven, before finally restoring Hawk in issue 8 of Blackest Night. Since 1986, I've hoped that Hawk would somehow magically manage to bring Donald back some day, even if he's not Dove anymore. :)

I love me a sibling team. I feel like the original pair of Hawk and Dove's personalities and what they represent are to be super interesting, and could potentially make for great stories especially in modern times what with how extreme and prevalent identity politics are. Their dynamics and how their father strives for the two of them to be logical and balance with how they go on with their lives. The world could use little more of that. Though I'm not too keen on the "mysterious voice gives superpowers" idea until the whole revelation of avatars for Chaos and Order. Which is pretty cool. Female Dove has a far better design though for me.

Sounds like the creepy family from the Titans series (spoilers) would have a hard time if not be completely outmatched by the Comic Book version of Hawk and Dove. Shame, would love to see some actual flying and powers on that series (I mean beyond what we have seen so far - like StarFire actually flying and Raven casting spells - which may happen - I hope)

This is actually a rare case of a live action adaption being WAY MORE interesting to me as characters than the comic versions. I like the avatar of war and peace thing from the comics but other than that, I feel like Titans actually makes Hawk and Dove ten times more intriguing as individuals and as a couple than they've ever been in the comics. They're one of the best parts of the show.

You forgot to mention how during blackest night, somehow dove is able to completely destroy the black lanterns, just by touching them, and that no matter how hard they tried black rings were unable to resurrect the original dove, two really neat but often overlooked aspects of that storyline.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. Back in 1991 there was a plot to have Monarch, a villain from the future who was hero from the past. The plan was to have Captain Atom be Monarch but the info was leaked. So DC had to pick another hero and it became Hawk...it was lame.

The reveal of Hank Hall as Monarch led to some controversy amongst the fan community; Monarch was originally intended to be revealed as Captain Atom, with clues in the story pointing towards this which had to be discarded when it was changed at the last minute. This change was due to the premature leaking of Monarch's identity. While Monarch was always supposed to be Captain Atom, this was supposed to be a secret. When Monarch's identity was prematurely leaked, DC decided to preserve the surprise of the story by switching Monarch's identity to that of Hank Hall. [From Wikipedia]

Yes. Based on two lords, one of Order and one of Chaos wanting to do an experiment and see if Order & Chaos could work together. This is how they became the avatars of these Lords. Some say these Lords were in love with each other and their goal is for Hawk & Dove to have a child together with that child have powers of Order & Chaos.
