1983 is probably my favorite year of all of my single life. I lived too far out in the country to get cable, so I only got bits and pieces of MTV when I visited people in town. But I did see everyone of these bands mentioned, except KISS. My circle of friends all felt like they were sellouts for taking off their make-up, although in hindsight, it might have been that we were finally old enough to go to the big city, and stay out late at concerts, and we lost the opportunity to see them with their make-up on. They had been heroes since elementary school. It would be watching the lone ranger without his mask. 'Piece Of Mind' is still one of my all time favorite albums, and definitely my fave in '83. That tour was als one of my most memorable concerts. Iron Maiden, Saxon, and Fastway. Even though we were a bunch of teenage country boys from the sticks, we still managed to dress metal, and we would even wear eye liner. We really thought we were the schitt. 😅

1983 I was 12. I was hooked on DEF LEPPARD and SCORPIONS, DIO, OZZY, and WARLOCK were soon to follow. I was hooked on metal then and I'm still hooked on it now! 80s metal was the greatest time of my life.

Thin Lizzy released their most Heavy Metal album in 1983 'Thunder & Lightning' it featured John Sykes Shredding like a madman 4 years before He stepped into the American limelight on Whitesnakes massive '1987' album. 'No Parole From Rock n Roll' by Graham Bonnets new band Alcatraz also dropped in '83 & featured another lead Guitar Shredder Yngwie Malmsteen ( ex Steeler)who would take the spotlight soon after & Kickstart the whole neoclassical Guitar revolution with His phrygian dominant mode & diminished scale speed work. Also of note from 83 : Raven 'All for One' Lita Ford 'Out for Blood' Y&T 'Mean Streak' MSG 'Built to Destroy' Manowar 'Into Glory Ride' soon followed by 'Hail to England' Ratt ep Saxon 'Power & Glory' Black Sabbath 'Born Again' ....these along with the Krokus 'Headhunter album were My main Metal soundtracks of 1983.

I was 16 in 1983. There was so much going on musically... metal, punk, country rock, blues, alternative, reggae. "Classic rock" (zeppelin, stones, who, ac/dc) was still there but fading fast with exceptions of David Bowie and Peter Gabriel reinventing themselves yet again. In 1981 The Rolling Stones would put out their last great album, Tattoo You. Folk rock (Dylan, CSN) was officially dead except for a hangers on who gave birth to the next generation of dead heads listening to that utter garbage. Along with metal but getting no airtime were post punk bands like REM, Smiths, Joy Division/New Order, U2, Echo, Pixies, Violent Femmes and many more who we played at house parties. It was a phenomenal time for music. The current corporate albatross seems to have taken over but will definitely die of atrophy as there's no passion there so no one cares about it. What will be next?
