I'm so happy you both saw in this that its not blasphemous. I saw the original movie in early 70s, had the book and the record. I can sing every song off by heart. I am a Christian but in 1992 I was very involved in a pentecostal church and we were told it would be sinful to watch this so I never saw it live. However I do know scriptures and with John as Jesus and for a 2 hour show they certainly tell the story and it definitely is very emotional. Thats what I love about John playing the lead, he shows the emotion and passion in his performance just perfectly. All the main characters and cast do an amazing job with their parts. Looking forward to Part 9. Thank you again ❤ Debb

Yes I went to this Live show in Melbourne. It was , um OMG Brilliant . Fantastic Performers, the amazing stage, what went on backstage must have been epic. Brilliant Show at its best - And John in leading role, fantastic. All actors singers brilliant. Atmosphere electric.

@@AussieDebb You are right Deb. Hadn’t even thought about crowd noise until you mentioned it. Cheering between songs, but from memory audience was quiet watching it. I also saw it twice in the 70s version lol, only because one boy asked me out for one night and another for the next night - so I said yes to both haha & saw it 2 nights in a row then years later this one . 😂

I saw this live in Melbourne, too. I was a young teen at the time and couldn’t properly appreciate it. This video is a great way to see it again. Gethsemane is just before Jesus is arrested by the Romans and so it’s quite a bit further in. The lead cast for this were all absolutely fantastic. Though perhaps a coincidence, I’ve always loved that Jesus (John Farnham) has long blond hair and Judas (Jon Stevens) long and black.

I saw two different versions of Jesus Christ Superstar prior to the production John was in. I couldn't attend this one as I was by then a responsible mum...travelling to the city wasn't feasible.

I saw it live in Melbourne in what is now known as the Rod Laver indoor Tennis Arena and still have the programme from 1992. It was an amazing production with a superbly talented cast. I have an enduring memory of the Crucifixion scene as the cross, with a spotlight on it, was raised up into the air in the darkened stadium.

@@AussieDebb John has always put his heart and soul into performing, and so generous. I remember going backstage at a Melbourne Town Hall concert in the late 60’s. His “cousin” asked me to come along with her and young girl we worked with who was involved in one of those really cultish religions, no make up, no modern fashion wear, not allowed to cut her hair which always had to be up, but she loved John’s singing. When introduced to him he shook her hand and kissed her cheek and spoke so kindly to her. He dazzled her so much she kept touching her cheek and saying he kissed her. Such a kind young man and a credit to his family. I say “cousin” because I never knew if they were actually related or if maybe their families called their parents aunty and uncle out of respect, but she was English.
