I’m surprised the pun you didn’t implement would have been the term I like to call... a “Gexually Transmitted Disease”. Super Mario Advance wasn’t even safe from it with phrases like “Woo hoo! Just what I needed!” The worst offender I think is Awesome Possum for the Sega Genesis. Anecdotally, Gex was viewed by Andy Gavin and Jason Ruben about a warning with how many times he talked and commented through the game breaking immersion entirely. Gex being the loquacious lizard that he was was the result of why Crash Bandicoot never talks (and no, I’m not counting Crash 2’s DKC Animated Series-Tier commercial; or Crash of the Titan’s “Pancakes” scream either). Funny you mention how popular Enter The Gecko was, at one point, it was PSXtreme’s 99% Platinum Award hit, and runner-up for game of the year; but when Banjo-Kazooie came out, it made Enter The Gecko it’s bitch. One last thing to bring up, the real mascot for the 3DO was Captain Quasar; but Gex proved himself to be more popular than the console’s ACTUAL mascot that they refer to him as such (Much like how Crash was viewed as the PS1’s mascot despite Polygon Man, or even Taro being the real mascots; in the USA & even Japan-even Taro shows up as a playable character in the PocketStation peripheral’s BIOS).

Fun fact about Donkey Kong: the Famicom was created to run a perfect port of Donkey Kong. So yeah platformers are literally in the DNA of gaming.

18:56 Bubsy 3D isn't a bad game. When Eidetic started developing Bubsy 3D there was no game like mascot 3D platformer with 3rd person. Eidetic was inspired by Jumping Flash because it was the only 3D platformer for PS1 at the time but it was in 1st person. Eidetic was small team, with not too much amount of money for Bubsy 3D and no experience with making 3D platformer game. On CES (I think in 1996) they showed Bubsy 3D beta for the first time. People were so exited about Bubsy. Mike Berlyn, the 'father' of Bubsy was walking around on CES and than he saw Nintendo's new 3D platformer (the early version of Mario 64) and he said to Mark Blank: "We have a serious problem." And than he showed to Mark Mario 64 but Mark and Mike knew they didn't have too much money to restart the develope. Bubsy 3D didn't also had a moving camera. They were inspired by Mario 64. Than came also Crash. Noone knew about developing Crash Bandicoot for PS1.

Did you grow up playing the game? Look, nobody is actively trying to make a bad game. But just cause Mario64 and Crash came out does not excuse that Bubsy feels horrible to play.

@@KingRey. I know but they didn't have any type of 3D platformer game to inspire from. Those weird looking levels were made that way on purpose. And you can't compare Crash to Bubsy. Bubsy 3D is openworld game while Crash not. I think that Crash is more annoying than Bubsy. Bubsy 3D is, in terms of development, the oldest 3D platform game with a mascot in the world.
