Allright, after 1000 hours of gameplay, the fact that I had to farm for Golem Greatarrows finally made me give up on playing the game fair. But I noticed a big problem when I resorted to the cheat engine: I would never again be invaded during my game runs, cause I would not be doing runs anymore. And that is a big problem. The main reason players go through multiple games is to unlock different endings and hoarding resources. That, in turn, opens up invasions. If players are not playing the game, all that is left are gank squads. I noticed this only after I had max of every item. Why would I keep playing if I don't need Strings, Aeonians Butteflies, Golem arrows and so on? If everyone starts resorting to the engine, there will not be natural invasions anymore as the game life's cycle progresses. In order to solve this problem, it would be needed a different approach from the game design. Any item could only be hoarded to max 99. Any item accessible from menu could only be hoarded to max 10 (10 boluses max, 10 greases max, some even lower, like starlight shards, that would be only like 3 or 5). And there should be some respawnable mini bosses, spread around the map, that drops some important consubmable by the 20's (like strings, trina lilli'es, aeonian butteflies, toxic mushiroon's). Make these as abundant as possible and spread out on the maps, especially putting some in dungeons that are already cleared for farming reruns after NG+. That would make the act of farming resources a fast repeatable process (it should be fast enought that you do not bother to open the engine at all, hence a small limit on itens hoarding). Also, make it so that in Coop, they drop 3 times more for each person in the group (so, you could actually get the whole set of 90 by doing this one run in cooperation). That would open these farming runs to invaders. Heck, make the area invadable even when solo (it is an optional mini boss in a already cleared area during NG+ cycles). Would that stop cheat engine and dupes? I doubt. But it would also turn it viable to people not wanting to cheat it (like I did not) and also allow people to keep the game alive longer, through farming and being invaded while doing it, giving purpose for you to be at risk of an invasion instead of cheating resources.

Fun fact, you can hardswap in Terraria. Why does it feel like this topic only affects Souls games, specifically FS souls? I mean, swapping is very normalized in plenty of games with or without online communities. All the games I've played before that aren't turn based MMORPGs basically allow you to hardswap, even the first fallout (a game from 199X) allowed you to do it, not for free, but it did and it was hella broken sometimes.

i do a lot of low level pvp with a CE character and felt bad for a bit but the funny thing is i do have a legitimate level 1 character who has never had even a +1 weapon and has beaten every remembernace boss minus fortissax (who could obviously easily be made into a very powerful low level invasion build with no cheats), plus when i made a level 50 build on ps4 i got everything i used legitimately by beating the game at that level with low weapon upgrade. The thing with CE is your gaining something which is indistinguishable from the same item gotten legitimately, meaning while it may seem unfair, in reality its no less fair than someone invading you who did it legitimately, its all the same build in the end. You may say that a player like me who could do all the pve legitimately "deserves" the advantage, but in reality what difference does it make for the host if ive grinded 1k hours? (repost from a thread below since i think i sum up the debate pretty well)

Cheats in pokemon have always been the way to go, especially on older gens where getting a competitive team was INSUFFERABLE, and sometimes you needed to have multiple. As a competitive Pokémon player, I never cared for this kind of cheats, since they only save time. The difference is that Pokémon made it easier to build with time with stuff like bottle caps, and Elden Ring it's still a grind.

Elden Ring is the only Souls game I've finally broken down to use cheat engine to get materials. In Demons/DS1/2/3 I could do NG+ cycles to get more slabs or just farm them if that was an option (Dark Wraith's in New Londo anyone?). However, with Elden Ring, a NG+ can take like 25+ hours to get all the rare stuff. unacceptable. Also in previous game I could do "Dried Finger" or "Taunted Tongue" runs, but in Elden Ring is by far more annoying than fun since open world PVP sucks and the dungeons are too short to have interesting invasions. Now I am happily running around with slabs, string, arteria leaves, and starlight shards.

I was always a more casual invasion pvp'er (mostly doing cosplay builds) in these games and for most of my time I would make the builds honestly. I have 500h in DS1:PtDE, 500h in DS2, 1700h in DS3 and 1000h in ER. Later in DS3's lifecycle I did resort to save scumming and later honest merchant mod, as those methods save a ton of time redoing the PvE. I never used cheat engine as I don't appreciate the method. My reasoning being that it can be used maliciously and I have been on the receiving end of that many times in DS3. To me it just seems bad to promote a tool that can and will be used maliciously by many people. I have nothing against save scumming, honest merchant mod or anything like this that serves as a pure time saver. Cheat Engine is just not the proper way of dealing with these problems from my point of view, so I think it's bad practice to promote usage of it. I have seen tons of malicious cheaters that try to get you banned, ruin your save file or gain unfair advantages in PvP (infinite health, stamina etc.), but never a single one using it for "cool factor" in-game. Those always seem like very set up scenarios and will not reflect how the general player will see CE being used. That has to be a streamer/set up video thing. As for anti-cheat; the PvP Watchdog/Blue Sentinel mods served this purpose well enough to make dealing with malicious cheaters bearable. Good on you and others for not using it maliciously, but I don't think it's something that should be promoted or encouraged. There are other ways of dealing with the same problems, that won't allow for malicious usage in multiplayer. The twitter guy obviously don't know anything about PvP at all and is just throwing mud at the wall to see if something sticks. All of these games should have something like the honest merchant mod at NG+ in vanilla tbf. That would alleviate all of these problems completely as it would just become standard to go to NG+ to get the new merchant for PvP. Not sure why they never did something like that. It seems like an obvious solution to this item scarcity problem.

That's the real problem. You would think after all the problems they have had with hackers and cheaters because of CE, fromsoft would realize that we just want an honest merchant in the vanilla game. Just make it so once you've hit NG++ (i.e had an opportunity to get every weapon twice) your save should be flagged so every character can enable Honest Merchant at the character creation screen. The only problem this doesn't solve is twinks, but it would be an improvement

You can use SaveWizard on ps5 by altering a ps4 save. Not sure if he uses it or not but he doesn’t use it to stack hack even if he does use it. If anything just item drops.

On my PS5 character, I have a dozen weapons upgraded to at least +24, kitted with AoW for all situations along with consumables like gravity fan and spells galore. It's not hard to do if you're just going through the game at a natural pace. Most of the consumables or upgrades you need are purchasable by endgame. The only real limitation is respecing for builds, but even then you can use a larval tear then do a PS+ Cloud backup of your save. (Fuck you, Sony. Let me export my save files to flash.) All Cheat Engine does is speed up the process. As long as the guy isn't teleporting around the map, you wouldn't even know the difference.

As a non-cheat engine using PVP enjoyer, this is my take. What I did was get every weapon and armor piece on a run and then went into NG+ 1 and got every limited weapon to have at least two and didn't level passed 40 and +12/+5 weapons. Farmed up some million runes, then made a backup of that character. From there I can load that backup and level up to 150 and dual wield any weapon I want and I can farm for more farmable weapons for swaps if I want to per build. That was me earning my builds. Some people may even consider using backups cheating, but I don't go that far. While I would only frown upon people cheating in runes, what I consider going too far is cheating in consumables like star light shards. Because doing so gives you a tangible advantage against people not doing it. And you didn't earn it. If you did earn it, then I have no real problem, you just put in more work than your opponent. But if you over use it against outmatched players already, kinda like over using hard swapping against a new player who hardly even knows how to space one move set, let alone every attack in the game, that's just mean lol. All in all though, it doesn't matter to much to me. People overusing consumables they cheated in is like someone bonfire dueling with a great rune active. It's not a big deal, and I will forget it by the next invasion. It's just people looking for effortless advantages. I will happily elaborate or debate if you like.

That's the thing though, you did cheat. People like this don't see anything beyond that, the black and white. There is functionally no difference between you farming up a 150 character making backups, and making new 150s through Cheat Engine. So honestly, you got the worst of both worlds. You're still gonna have idiots claim you're cheating when it doesn't matter to them at all AND you wasted hours of your time alive so that you could....have another weak justification for cheating? Just use CE.

@@JDJReaver I see the argument, but I don't see any way someone could reasonably call backups cheating. I put in the work to make the character and gather the resources. They could try to argue it, but it would be easily beaten. They don't know if I even have backed it up yet or am still on the original. And besides, as I said in the comment, I don't really consider giving yourself runes bad. That doesn't really give you an advantage in a fight. I personally am just against using a 3rd party program to modify the game counter to the developer's intentions in order to save negligible time/effort in most cases.

My only gripe with CE is low level PVP, I like progressing through the game and have invasions but to fight someone at low level range without using fully upgraded estus as well as 4 talismans / min maxed armor is almost impossible on PC. Big shame. Takes a lot of enjoyment out of a game for me.

I'm an honest get everything for realz gamer out of nessecity (I'm on ps4 and idk how to dupe), but I would never fault another player for skipping the process and duping what they need. All it really is is tedious busy work meant to pad time. If you wanna blame someone go blame Fromsoft for attaching such valuable ass items to ng+ cycles and shipping the game with such a janky craft system that forces you to farm for hours for shit like string which gets used up in one session of pvp.

You need another player to dupe. Essentially you get some items/weapons that you want to dupe and back up your save to the cloud in the settings menu on your console. After backing up the save you drop the stuff you wanna dupe to your friend. Then you go back to the console settings and download your backed up save. Now you have the items you just dropped back. Then your friend drops you the stuff you just gave to him. Rinse and repeat.

I was honest in ds3 and spent a ton of time making dueling builds. It wasn't too bad in that game aside from rings being ng+2 exclusive (I didn't bother with them) and slabs. But after making my 17th dueling character, I learned how to duplicate slabs and decided that I had spent enough time farming already.

The man has given us great things, but has questionable taste when it comes to his game design decisions. Let's also acknowledge that he isn't the only one who is solely responsible for all the things that we like in the series. He's been quoted, stating that Rom is his favorite boss in Bloodborne... Also, that he doesn't play his games after he is done making them. This could be a mix in the translation, meaning that he only doesn't play them right after, but either way, I'm done shitting on Mr. Michael Zacky for now. To sum this up, I just want to respond to people who say that it's ok because the DLC will fix all of the farming issues. I'm sorry that's not an excuse. A game should not rely on DLC (which btw, ends up releasing over a year after initial launch) to patch up such wonky game design choices. A PATCH, should patch those up. If they would understand this fundamental, this video would have never been made, and cheat engine would be a considerably less popular tool being used. @Steelivsky this guy has never played Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen, either! It’s very normal in that game to go into the equipment menu and hard swap weapons to gain an advantage over enemies. For example, the player can switch from high strength mace to rusted sword to torpor enemies (slows them down) and to also do the same for your pawn. You can hot key items to use them without accessing the menu on console and PC. Although it’s far easier on console since it’s literally a feature provided by the devs and shown in a tutorial. Don’t like how the battle is shaping up? Godsbane to begin the encounter over again, no problem. If the enemy Death wipes out the entire party or certain members of the party? Godsbane and start over again. Granted, DDDA is a single player game but still…the principle is still the same. No one thinks the lesser of you since it’s preferable to losing pawns to insta-death, causing them to return to their “owners” with a default 3-star rating and no gift, also called a bodybag. In fact, it’s a hassle to the player to have to retrieve said pawns from the Rift and start over. I’m over-simplifying of course but still…. I don’t get this guy at all. Before I played Souls games I wondered how PVP’ers did it (get all the weapons and upgrades) but I understand much better now. Having played completely through ER myself, and gotten a platinum for it-I know I don’t want to have to do that again as enjoyable as it was-and I loved the game, still do-but I wouldn’t want to search every dungeon all over again. That was a wonderful, fun experience however it was done for the sake of the single player experience (no summons). I understand much better why, if I ever decided to fully commit to PVP, it’s preferable to follow your guide on creating a PVP build, and even there I have so much more to learn. I certainly wouldn’t be fantastic right out of the gate just because I followed all your guides. Experience would still MATTER; knowing how to approach and fight against other players would still MATTER. Being able to menu swap quickly would still MATTER (and judging what to swap to, quickly); having a good build would still MATTER. I have lots to learn. Oh, and I’m pathetically slow at menu swapping in ER, too. I’m guessing that experience doing that would come over time, at least for me.

My only conclusion is that hosts have it piss-easy with enormous amount of advantages and ability to control when and how many players can enter your world. If my PvE abilities are dogshit then this game should be considered walking simulator, cuz I fly through any PvE content without any effort on +12 upgrade. Cope? :)

it's a necessary evil, I mean ultimately no matter what, a decent chunk of the community is going to veer towards totally optimal setups with many materials regardless of the game. In Bloodborne this manifested in harvesting bloodgems for hours and hours on end with halved hp, redoing the same dungeons over and over for a time much longer than the span of the game. But many players did this, arguably the majority, you kinda had to or your dmg wouldn't be able to compete. If say, it was very easy and free to cheat in items and so on in that game then, the pvp realistically would be exactly the same because whether they can cheat it in or not, the dedicated players will get ahold of the powerful materials required (with one or two exceptions, and even those exceptions frowned upon because you really did need cheats to get them). It overall actually makes it more accessible, would help community grow. Same is true of Elden Ring where many players, stuck at 150+ are locked out of more "serious" pvp brackets and can't experiment as freely without playing through the game again several times. And for the dedicated pvpers, whether or not they cheat or play through the game many times, they will nonetheless have five of a once per playthrough weapon and so on. Ultimately, love it or hate it but the hardswappers are still going to be swapping regardless of how they got their items, and it doesn't give you a huge advantage like actual cheated stats would. It's sorta nebulous to say whether a technique like that actually constitutes an advantage, it's moreso just another interaction you can have which, against people who haven't seen it before will likely die to it. But that's true of basically everything in the game lol.

I think they should make some build making system for the game ( maybe you get it unlocked after first NG+ or something ) alongside runearc shop so the cheat engine becomes a moot point. The irony is that for their other game that should come out this year, Armored Core, they stressed a few times that the focus will be on build making and customizing your mech... they only need to realize that people want that kind of stuff in Elden Ring allready, build making and customizing your character easily.

So, I played gtav pretty competitively before elden ring. It was a long time ago but I hit like, the skill plateau where you pretty much just cannot get any better and it just becomes about reading your opponent to figure out what he'll do next. In that game, if you cheated or modded to get you account up to high level with all the weapons and vehicles to make you competitive in the PVP scene, literally nobody cared. In fact, If you cheated for your account instead of buying it with real money because rockstar has microtransactions, the community held you to higher standard than someone who bought their way to the top, lol. I stopped playing that game a couple years ago, but... I feel the same way about ER. if you cheat to skip the grind because you just want to fight that's totally fair. Of course, stat cheating and modding is obviously wrong, but items and levels and such are fair to me.

I don't see why copying your save file is "cheating". It's just like having a manual save system. You can copy your save file before every boss and that way you can go back and fight a boss again if you want to, without needing to replay the whole game to reach that boss again.

While i dont personally like cheating including the use of cheat engine to give yourself items. I understand why people do it. It does blow hard when i am fighting a twink on a new playthrough with a dumb ammount of gear and items with all the items they would ever need but i win regardless 3/4ths of the time and 99% of the time they are not assholes you get the occasional turd burglar that thinks they are top shit.

I only use CE in Seamless mod to make wonky/silly builds that would take too much time to make even as a gimmick but then take 5-15 mins instead. Live servers and client i've not bothered and just have a meme build and one quality build ive put hours into and grinded for. Seamless i have more hours in since, until we do get shops for majority of items and unlimited by end game, ill just keep using CE for builds for pvp and such.

I find ER PVP very fun but the changes to invade and getting invade are not very appealing to me, in DS3 I like to invade/get invaded use builds and stuffs and see people's reaction and team up with them etc., its just very fun to have interaction with other players in this unfriendly world of Souls game, I spend almost 3/4 of 684 hours playing DS3 PVP. But in Elden Ring I stopped playing after I spent my last Larval Tears and used up every slab tier upgrade material with 204 hours playtime, I just ain't gonna go through all that again to get a couple respec and couple more +10/+25, DS3 is much shorter and linear so I can do a quick NG+ with my ember on and do PVP while I'm running, but in Elden Ring I want to do this I activate taunter's tongue and I get gangbang by invader, and I go through a boring PVE NG+ then I invade I get gangbang by hosts and their friend, its just no fun.

For console players: You need another player to dupe. Essentially you get some items/weapons that you want to dupe and back up your save to the cloud in the settings menu on your console. After backing up the save you drop the stuff you wanna dupe to your friend. Then you go back to the console settings and download your backed up save. Now you have the items you just dropped back. Then your friend drops you the stuff you just gave to him. Rinse and repeat.

It's just a time saver to use Cheat Engine bc I'm not gonna go threw the game multiple times just to be "honest" and "truthful" just to still lose when I would have lost an invasion regardless. I'm not good at invasions and duels but its still fun once and a while, and when I'm playing on PS5 I item dupe and use Mule characters for the sake of having a certain build.

There are problems with exploits and cheats. Serpent swap one shots when I piss off some sweaty nerd. Using save editors to min max builds to ridiculous extents etc etc. Getting a lvl25 weapon to invade levels where the enemy will have their own build, is nothing compared to my 30 dex 30 vig lvl 5 beating up on complete newbies. I'm an unapologetic real cheater. I played thousands of hours of dark souls and bloodborne and im sick of farming. I've wasted enough time on filler. This guy is worried about the wrong thing.

People like this guy are exactly the kind of people who are bad for these games. He lacks awareness and doesn’t look at the game critically, he just gets pissy over shit when he gets outplayed. He definitely isn’t the kind of player who’s going to stick around for a long time or actually care about the game. Hard swapping is a base mechanic that’s there for a reason. Otherwise it would’ve been removed sometime in the last 14 years since Demon’s Souls came out. It isn’t a glitch, and it isn’t cheating. And the fact that he gets upset about people giving themselves more consumables and weapons when he has the ability to: summon two friends, summon infinite hunters as long as he’s alive, regain estus when killing enemies, not have to be invaded solo, outheal any invader, and resummon phantoms infinitely. Like that’s so frustrating. If you don’t like hardswapping that’s one thing, but calling it a glitch isn’t right. Complaining about infinite consumables isn’t right either, when you and your two max level friends can sit in a corner and spam status effects and magic until an invader dies. Hardswapping takes a ton of situational awareness, practice and timing. This is just a guy who doesn’t understand PvP, the role of PvP in balancing summons, or invaders as a whole

I mean having the additional weapons, crafting materials, items, etc. is an advantage. No doubt. But it isn’t a big deal in souls pvp and I would say most people don’t really care. Having to grind all of those things legitimately is essentially impossible and once the game has been out for 6+ months there is absolutely nothing wrong with duping stuff. Comparing this case with cheaters in mw2 shows a total lack of understanding of Elden Ring and the souls pvp community as a whole. Kick rocks, zed.

yes you can say using grxxd mexchxnt with cheat engine is cheat. but filling the inventory with +25 weapons doesn't make you skilled, you still die in invasion. modifying HP, FP, etc. is of course real cheat.

Going up against those people you pretty much have huge disadvantage. They can even use string buffs to fake an attack. +9 somber is noticably worse than max upgrade but it's easy enough to get enough stones coupled with ng+. +24 I don't even bother upgrading. I wish it was as easy as PC on ps5 to do this but as I know right now the only way is shilling out 60 bucks on save wizard but correct me if wrong.

You only get a fixed number of ancient smithing stones per play-through though. What I don't understand is that the fromsoft fanboys will blatantly defend 1-5% gear drop rates and defend non farmable crafting materials while a cheat engine/mule user will continuously use rot and sleep grease to cheese honest players. I think that there is a small amount of validity to people being against hardswaps, at least at a very high skill level, such as swapping out of hitstun and immediately using an ash with a fast windup thats nearly impossible to react to, but in most cases hardswapping doesnt feel bad at all to play against.

ive seen gigasthiccas (another pvp player) talk about it on stream and honestly we kinda came to the conclusion that it would be very fun if there was a colloseum mode where you were locked into your equipment. Then players would be incentivised to commit to their own builds instead of relying on hardswapping to better weapons if they are losing or want access to unlimited AOWs, and it would also make it more of a trade-off if you want to use multiple weapons since youd need extra equip load. Im pretty certain fromsoft wont add something like this but it would be very cool if they did

But there are problems in PvP atm, sure there was always a little bit of CE in the souls series for quickly putting builds together but it was ramped up extensively in DS3 and now ER is the main result in accepting that it's commonplace. Which it really shouldn't be because if everyone starts to just CE everything they need. FROM won't fix the damn game! You do see starlight shards in every invasion and I've outplayed multiple invaders who have used the max you can get per playthrough which is like what 19 or 20 I think? Idk. Then invaded me again with a whole new set of dumplings and shards. It's exhausting dealing with that kind of mentality and I get it you want to win but that's not how I play personally. I'll jump off a ledge if I'm bored with some sweat lord because for some reason, invaders in ER rarely leave. I mean it's always there as an option but for reason they refuse to use it. This dudes arguments about maxing weapons is stupid as well. A max level weapon will be like what, 20 more AR than a +9? The community doesn't really care about that as an issue at all. We do have concerns about phantom hits, shitty net code and the arbitrary design decision to not have all boluses available to buy or not being able to craft a bunch of things ALREADY in the game i.e. Golem arrows. These do make PvP frustrating at times because I enjoy the challenge of running through multiple NG+ cycles to have enough of the finite materials to craft as many pots as I want but I understand it's not for everyone. And you see it in every single invasion and recently even in the arena which is just horrendously poor form to see honestly. Hopefully they patch shards out of there next patch. But yeah anyways, fun idea for a video though. Good nostalgia for me with the mention of DS1 and DS2. I loved playing those games way too much. I remember the super early DS1 PvP on the 360 before the PC port you'd be surprised by how little BS'ing there was back then! Gods I was motivated to "git gud" then! These days? Eh not so much. The skill ceiling for people playing the game is so low these days. TLDR: This twitter guy is a melon and thankfully doesn't represent the community in any serious capacity.
