My first and only visit to these beautiful islands was in 1970, I was 8 years old. My Father and I arrived from the UK on Wednesday 29th July. On the Saturday afternoon, the MV Christena sank. What should have been the most important trip of my life turned out to be and is still one of my sadest moments. I was on the pier in Charlestown that Saturday night when they started bringing the bodies ashore. This has lived with me all my life. Sadly, I have never returned to the Islands, maybe this is the reason why. All my family who were all born in Nevis have passed, so the link is slowly fading away. Even though I was born in the UK, I still identify myself as a Nevisian. Thank you for the history lesson........ I would imagine there is a lot more to tell.

The narrator finally mentioned that the French also went there sometime around the 1540s. The Huguenots settled in Dieppe Bay. I really feel that the French were there before the British. Then the French shared half of the island of St Kitts with the British until about 1783.They were there for almost 100 years. My great -grandfather was from Gingerland, Nevis. He was born in 1883 and his relatives have a long history in St Kitts and Nevis. My other great-grandfather was born in St Kitts.

They very well could have been slaves. The Africans took other Africans for slaves first. And on a much larger scale. Also, don't fall into the thinking that slaves were all African. Millions of white people were also enslaved as well.
