Spartanburg, South Carolina is well known for its textile manufacturing and for being a railroad hub. Dr. Philip Racine, Professor of History at Wofford College delves a little deeper into its background and history.

Very interesting....love to learn the History of this country and how the country evolved after the Revolutionary war! We basically pushed out all the Indians and took their land which is nota very good legacy.

left out The Marshall Tucker Band, Pink Anderson, Daryle Rice and other musicians that helped put Spartanburg on the map, left out the Spartanburg Peaches baseball team, among other things

I moved to Spartanburg when I was 17 coming from Michigan, in the 12 years I've been here I've seen amazing growth. I could definitely see why people are moving here

We don’t mind Texans , but Yankees can pass the 120 foot tall confederate flag on I-85 as they head back north

Ok late 1700 colony took land from Cherokee. Who built all these buildings (textile Mills, state buildings, ect)? Where are the records of the buildings? I find owners but no construction nor planning before 1890's. Where did the man power come from to build these places

I just learned something rather shocking. Of all the Amtrak stations in South Carolina, Spartanburg is the least used. I thought it would have been something like Yemassee or Dillon. But no, it's Spartanburg.

Spartanburg’s train station experienced a fire in 1996 and was saved from demolition by a 16 year old high school student who mounted a campaign to save it. The depot is now a museum. A unique feature at Spartanburg is the Spartanburg tunnel, the only active train tunnel in SC. It begins at the depot area and ends at Wofford Colleges a couple of blocks away. It is difficult to see because of tree growth but there are KZbin videos about it.
