History of Superboy - Part 1 - Beginnings and The 90s

Today on the show, Faust talks about the History of Superboy, in this 3 part series about Superboy. In this part we talk about his Origin, his beginnings with Cadmus, and even the clone plague!!
"Superboy (also known as Kon-El or Conner Kent) is a fictional comic book superhero in the DC Comics universe. A modern variation on the original Superboy, the character first appeared in Adventures of Superman #500 (June 1993), and was created by writer Karl Kesel and artist Tom Grummett.[1]
From the character's debut in 1993 to August 2003, Superboy was depicted as a genetically engineered metahuman clone of human origin designed by Project Cadmus as a duplicate and closest genetic equivalent of Superman. The character was retconned in Teen Titans vol. 3, #1 (September 2003) as a Kryptonian/human hybrid of Superman and Lex Luthor. After DC's The New 52 initiative that relaunched the company's comics continuity in 2011, the character of Superboy was revamped as a clone derived from three DNA sources and designed by Project N.O.W.H.E.R.E. as a recreation of Jon Lane Kent, the biological son of Superman and Lois Lane from a potential future timeline. After the character's death in the Superboy series, Kon-El was replaced by Jon Lane Kent in subsequent stories. After the events of Superboy #34 Kon-El returns as Superboy again." - Wiki
Superboy has had multiple appearances in other media, including the Young Justice cartoon, where he was known as Conner Kent.

Between 1993-1996 I was a young boy obsessed with Superboy. I seriously wanted to be Superboy. When the 1996 annual came out and I didn't have it yet, I was so excited I couldn't even sit still if I even started to think about it. I even drew my own Superboy comics in 1996, but by the end of that year I was hitting puberty and Superboy took a back seat.

I got into Superman with his death in the 90s, and with Reign of the Supermen, he was a character I fell in love with immediately. His attitude, and even his dated costume were something I liked a lot. Sadly, I fell away from Superman and eventually comic books for years (finding a source was one reason.) But Superboy was the reason I came back into comics. Althought it was "too late" at the time (2007,) reading about him, his death, and the effects brought me back.

I love the way he looks and his hip attitude. It's like a millienial fashion blogger only in the early 90s. He just looks good. Which is strange for the mullettastic 90s. You can feel them trying to 90s him up more and more but he somehow resists it. They should use a version on that hair and glasses in a new outfit. The jeans and tshirt are just lame.

I was 13 during the Death or Superman, so I was their target audience and really dug S-Boy. Especially loved World's Finest Three with Tim Drake and it's Tom Grummet art. Later, when Teen Titans was relaunched I was an adult and appreciated how they matured the character.

During Marvel vs. DC, when he fought Spider-Man, I thought it was SUPER appropriate... Since they were both clones. This video is about to send me on a Google search adventure... Because I have ZERO idea how/why he changed from a leather jacket wearing bad boy to a black t-shirt wearing boyscout. That makes sense that after absorbing the yellow sun for some time, that he would fully get kryptonian powers... However... I still like his original powers. So, thanks for that info! I thought Super Boy was so cool in the 90's!!! I loved the way his powers work(Super original 😎), I loved his costume, his attitude, the whole death of Superman comics & that he was in Marvel vs. D.C.!!! I would of thought it was SUPER cool that he fought Spider-Man's clone Ben Reilly(spellcheck)the Scarlett Spider if I'd of known... Because they were both clones... Idk I was too young so I totally missed that. It would have made more since because I was confused as to why they paired them up. ANYWAY... I did not like boring black T-shirt & blue jeans, jock, Super Boy. He just paled in comparison to the rad leather jacket & sun glasses wearing Super Boy of the 90's. IMHO
