I moved to Columbus, from Los Angeles. Lived out there for a year, from 2013 -2014. Lived on the east side. Right off of Livingston and Cunard Rd behind the Dollar tree. Never got bothered. My family was the only Mexican family in the neighborhood and we hardly ever got bothered. Everyone was usually cool, had to prove myself a couple of time when I would go up the street to Barnett park to play basketball. But I earned my respect. Used to hang with Rollin 20s from the north side always showed mad love. Columbus could be considered of a tough city, but it’s more or less like everywhere else. As long as you don’t bother no one, no one will bother you. Yeah you’ll get bothered from time to time but it’s nothing no man can’t handle. I was only 19 when I stayed out there, in 24 now, and I’ve been looking into moving back to Columbus for good now. It has its places just like it has its bad places. Same as Los Angeles.

Grew up in the Cleveland area, currently live in Columbus with my first job out of college. Columbus is a great city for young professionals. College town, nice suburbs, not too congested, good economy and above average nightlife. There are some rougher parts around Cleveland Ave and elsewhere, but it's not as widespread as the bad parts of Cleveland or Cincy. Definitely recommend living here as long as you do your due diligence.

I worked down the street at Dr pepper 7up for years and had no idea that area was so bad. I always figured the shithole at Hamilton and broad was worse. It was just torn down this year, iirc. And that's why their project housing gets torn down and they get pushed out, priced out and eventually gone or homeless. Eventually it will turn. Los Angeles is gentrifying all the bad hood areas and now even if you're a working family you cant afford it.

I agree to a extent, but not everyone can be rich! The rich wouldn’t be rich if it wasn’t for the poor. I’m not making excuses for people, but healthcare, cost of living, etc... It is tough out here.

Back in the 80s there was a gang called The 5th Street gang and they kept giving my dad crap. One day they pushed my dad too far and he tried to run a few members over with his vehicle. The leader told my dad that he earned his respect, and if any of his boys ever gives him any trouble against for Dad to come straight to him and he'll take care of it. He gave my dad a wick lighter that my dad held onto for a long time till it was lost in a house fire

community college is almost free because of your race if you had good high school grades you would qualify for a government grant which means free college now if your high school grades were bad and you do well in community college than you can also get a government grant it will be a lot of work but you can do it

I came to Columbus in the early 80's. Used to hang out with homeless people in the Short North and wander drunk up and down Cleveland Avenue all night long. Lived on the East Side for 8 years. I knew all the hookers and pimps. I knew murderers and biker gangs and kids who claimed to be in gangs although I don't really know if they were. I knew folks in Greenbriar (Uzi Alley). I knew soooooo many crackheads. No mention in this video of Motel Row or The 40 Winks. People used to sell crack and child prostitutes out of the motels and set the dumpsters on fire at night. I lived there for 8 years. I worked night shift in a convenience store. I saw people stabbed. I saw a drive by. A few years after I moved away my dad was talking to a black dude from the Livingston Avenue area. When my dad told him his son used to live there he said "No way. If your son had lived in my neighborhood we would have killed him."

John Adams I’m glad u are doing better, at least I hope U are doing well. These conditions u mention were horrendous. I grew up in Arlington and was given so many opportunities others were not. I do not take them for granted and give back when I can. Everyone deserves to live in a safe neighborhood with excellent schools. I’m sorry for the disparities and inequalities of lives that occurred generations ago from discrimination in many areas and its repercussions. A good start for change: affordable housing in decent well designed neighborhoods, higher paying jobs and higher wages, decent timely transit systems, excellent schools for all, etc. this is a scary time politically. I hope for the near future many leaders who bring both sides together, true centrists. The extremism of both sides is ruining the country.
@joerob34496 жыл бұрын
Jessica LT why do you feel ashamed that your parents provided you with nice things? They probably worked hard to provide for you. Anyone can make it in this country if they have a drive to succeed and work hard. I see it every day.
@jessicalt41216 жыл бұрын
Joe Rob hi joe. I’m not ashamed just sorry many don’t have similar schools and housing to get a very good start in life. Yes, my dad worked very hard but a long the way he had mentors but yes he did the work. I used to think anyone can get ahead but those who do are the exception not the rule. Expensive housing and rents in addition to college expenses etc. create many obstacles. People do have to strive to get ahead and work hard and have a plan and goals. Who u hang out with too can affect your future.

@@jessicalt4121 No Jessica, not everyone deserves to be happy. Every fucking lowlife that John mentioned does not deserve happiness. They should just be fucking killed. The dude being interviewed is talking about how "hard" his project developments go, how many people get murdered, and throwing up gang signs, and then follows it up with "the police be out here harassing everyone," how ignorant can you be? Seriously. Meanwhile dude narrating talking about "uzi alley" and how many gangs moved into these parts, how often people fight, and how there are turf wars but... yes the cops are out there for no reason right?

Coming from Whitehall, and having family in Linden and on the North side/Cleveland ave I can say for a fact I’d rather walk through any part of Columbus over Cleveland or Cincinatti. Columbus has areas thy are “rough”, but that’s relative to upper Arlington. Cleveland, Cincinnati and even Youngstown have areas that are straight up dangerous. I felt safer in Long Beach than I do in Cleveland. And I’m talking the Compton side of Long Beach, not the açaí stands by the beach with the basic white girls. Haha.
