I really love the Ashanti architectural style. Is very distinctive looking, I would love to see a CGI rendition of how a modern metropolis would look in that style. On one of Jabari's video's on from nothing it notes how they had multi-story well-built dwellings...this would be such an AWESOME setting for a feature film or HBO style show showing the politics and wars of these kingdoms that have such a great visual fidelity and style...See the true epic stories of empires most people here in the west have not heard of...that will bw Yuge box office success for those brave enough to dish out the money...unless they try to trun it into a comedy with action and no story...the awesome history of this region is what makes it such a content gold mine....just some random late night thoughts....would love to hear why you think that would work or not :)

@SHADRACH 7 stop being hateful so you can see clearly, most Africans are Israelites and so is most of African Americans, I know this for a fact so before you rule out the truth, take a minute and stop listening to lies. If you know the history of the Ashanti, you even wouldn't think of what you said, the murders, slavery they suffered is depressing, the only queen who stood against those whites was later arrested together with most leaders and shipped to an Island called Seychelles and left for dead. God knows who and who are the natural seed of Israel, I know I'm from Judah because God told me Himself, Yes He spoke to me because I believe in His Son Yahushua Who came to seek and to save the lost of Israel and to save all Mankind from Sin and death. I live in Africa and yet I'm a natural seed Israel and a Jew for that matter. So before you think of dividing things, be sure of your facts first cos we are One. Bless you.

Those Jamaicans are Akan but not of Asante Origin but Fante origin. Both Fante and Asante were notorious for slave trade since no tribe had power over them. They sold others as slaves so you won't find many slaves of Asante or Fante origin. But the British who were friends with Fante deceived some Fante of taking them to an expedition. Soon as the Fantes got to the lands, they realized they weren't going to return again do they said "Gyama yaaka" to wit, it's seems we are stuck here. This saying is what corrupted into Jamaica.

What makes the Ashanti empire so impressive as is the case with several precolonial African empires & kingdoms of significance is the environment it was forged in, and all the variables in it’s biome that say a state of this nature is impossible. In fact archaeologists and historians have been CONFOUNDED for decades how the bulk of precolonial African empires & kingdoms of esteem worthy status came into existence seeing Africa contains the most incomparably challenging biomes exceeding every continent on the globe, second to uninhabitable Antarctica. To be honest polities such as Ashanti impress me more than Ancient Egypt, seeing that Egypt was blessed with yearly Nile inundation, & also they had access to peoples in the Middle East in equally less harsh environments, such as the Fertile Crescent that had successfully experimented with profitable animal & plant domestication which ultimately was a catalyst that cause their civilization to reach the epitome that it did.
@qus.9617
@qus.9617 5 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by biome? Any examples? For examples the Mayans lived in a drought prone area (some droughts last near a century), forcing them to invest in a water conservation engineering works. In the end severe droughts caused the collapse of Mayan civilisation and migration of Mayans from the Yucatan peninsula. Entire cities were emptied and lost to time and the forests. Also was it not to their advantage to be an empire with access to the coast? Good comment btw.
@GuardianoftheGoldenStool

Quinn. S. A biome is a major ecological community type, such as a subtropical rainforest, grassland, desert, tundra, savanna, marine, freshwater, etcetera.
@qus.9617
@qus.9617 5 жыл бұрын
@@GuardianoftheGoldenStool Er that's not really what I asked for. My question was how exactly were the biome's so harsh that archeologists and historians are baffled that empires (Ashanti) could exist in that condition? Do you have any sources to your comment because I want to learn more but couldn't find anything online. If you know your sources it should be easy peezy compared to my efforts. I gave you an example of a harsh environment in which archeologists, geologists and historians have studied in depth of a harsh environment that a civilisation was able to come to being such as the Mayan civilisation which ultimately collapsed several times due to decades to century long drought periods.

He's basically saying there are certain geographical/environmental factors that allowed human civilizations to blossom and shapes existing civilizations. Like a navigable river system, deserts, mountain ranges, steppes, rich soil, mild climate, pastures, sea, woodlands etc. Subsaharan Africa having super hot climate, impassable jungles, crappy soil in some parts, dangerous wildlife, few good rivers, unpredictable weather and being isolated by Sahara desert wasn't the best place for civilizations to blossom. Yet against all the odds they have these dank kingdoms and cities. It's like playing Simcity on hardest difficulty. Also you should read "why nations fail" by James A. Robinson and Daron Acemoğlu.
@GuardianoftheGoldenStool
@GuardianoftheGoldenStool 5 жыл бұрын
Quinn. S. The African history scholar Phillip Koslow has a kingdoms of Africa series(books)on several precolonial African empires and kingdoms. He mentions these environmental factors in his Asante: The Gold Coast book, his Benin: Lords of the River book, and his Mali: Crossroads of Africa book. Also in his Benin: Lords of the River book he refers to William H. McNeil’s Plagues and People book elaborating on the environmental challenges of the African continent. You can probably find some of these books in your local library even in the juvenile section. Except William H. McNeil’s book particularly won’t be in the juvenile section.

History is vast they can’t include everything, in I have worked in primary schools in England, some of them do teach a part of West African history. Mainly the City state and Empire of Benin.. It’s parent duty to instil African history in their children, especially if your ancestors come from there. Sadly most people don’t know anything much about their history included whites people from different nations. I work with a lot of Turkish men, most of them hardly know anything about the Ottoman Empire an empire that was from their own people,,the Ottoman Empire is not taught in British schools. The numerous city states live Venice and Genoa in Italy not taught, The Persian empire. Even great British people who changed society for good not taught in school. Most of us take it for granted that women have rights not in the west we take for granted that working class men can vote not long ago you had to own property. Young people leave school with little knowledge of who there are as a nation. As a black British person I identify with British history because it overlaps with the history of my ancestors from West Africa and I identify with it because it the nation of my birth. A lot of white British people no hardly anything about who they are. Even though some of there history is is taught in school. Because I’m in my 50s what I learned about British history is different in parts to what they teach now. Britain is ashamed of their empire so they teach less of it now. So young people will never know why some ppl have resentment toward them as a people. Funny thing our minister for education a few years a back was very concern about the lack of knowledge of the Briton empire. A survey was done, one of the question was, Who was Admiral Nelson, most kids thought he was Nelson Mandela., So the irony of this is a lot of kids in Britain remember Nelson Mandela a black man more than they remember Britain greatest sea navy admiral who defeated the French navy in the battle of Waterloo. He is revered so much, that they made a statue that stands high in the sky in Trafalgar Square. So to conclude it’s not only black people that has had a disservice from school education. and we shouldn’t expect to much from white led education system, we should fight more for black history that has impacted on American and British history.

OtherWorlds AllWorlds I would expect that, but it just amazon they amount of West Africans that don’t have a clue about how. African trading with Europeans. I spend my time teaching a lot of my African work colleagues. They expect it from me to. But it’s the same with every nation I work with. The Turks,,the white British don’t know their history. Reason being a lot of children don’t grasp history because the way it taught can make it boring. Plus school is there to help you to want to learn more. School can’t teach you everything. It’s taken me over 30 years to learn African history and world history. I learn something everyday. Schools teach you about key events and key people. So they not going to delves into anything else. It’s for us to continue to learn history after we leave school.

Leonard Guy I may be a southeastern North American that has Celtic roots, but I love studying the history of Africa’s nations and ancient kingdoms. The Gaza Empire, a Zimbabwean and Mozambican kingdom founded in the 1824 by Soshangane the Great. Mutapa, the BaKalangan kingdom founded in 1430 by Nyatsimba Mutota. Aksum, the Ethiopian Kingdom formed in 1st century CE that would to become a political entity of Ethiopia and then grow to form the Ethiopian Empire, which the original city of Aksum still exists today in post-imperial Ethiopia. I know this is probably because I’ve got way to much time on my hands, but enjoy studying the history of foreign lands, even ones that I share little or no bloodline with, like Africa. The kingdoms and empires of Africa have always intrigued me.

For the last couple months i have been learning a lot about African history because Africa really fascinates me. I wish more people would educate themselves about African history because there is so much to tell about the different empires, thousands of ethnic groups and great cities. But unfortunately the western education system portrais Africa as giant country where all people just live in small huts and hunt with a spear. We only get tought history of European and American history and i think that is sad. Africa is the origin of human life and there is just so much history in this amazing continent. It is a shame that Western education makes it look like Africa (and Asia and the Americas as well) have no history before Europeans colonized these continents. I really hope this changes in the future.

Ashanti warriors. They’re the first indigenous Africans to have decisively defeated the colonial powers on the battlefield on several occasions in their numerous wars. This also explains why Britain still respects the Ashanti king as at today. They were eventually defeated when one of their own betrayed them to the British making Britain to catch them by surprise. Had it not been British defeat of the Ashanti, they would have ruled the entire Ghana, many parts of Ivory Coast, Benin and Togo. They’re also the first indegenous people to build an empire.

Over the course of History, the Fanti and Asanti United briefly. The Fantis didn't have much Gold in their lands and Uniting with the Asantis meant allowing the Asantis to have direct access to the coastal areas where the Europeans were. This would mean risking their main source of income to the most powerful organised army, the Asantis who had Gold and heavy population and therefore a mighty army. The two sides attempted a United Kingdom but it was clear to the Fantis the Asantis didn't want to engage the Fanti as they focused on finishing off their closer enemies (Akyim especially). So the Fanti made it known to the Asanti to leave their territory. Which brought wars between the sides. The Asantis were allies with the Dutch and one Fanti coastal kingdom Elmina (Edina) allies of the Dutch. To this day Fantis and Asantis are rivals but not in an aggressive way. The Fantis if they had joined Asanti would have been the most powerful empire on the the continent. It would have changed history. Asanti military had successful campaigns against the Fanti but the Fanti never joined their course. The Fanti knowing they lacked the money and population to fight and completely defeat Asanti cleverly played the British and Asanti against each other eventually destroying the Asanti empire. Fantis though smaller in population and wealth never wanted to be subjects of the Asanti. Even after defeats in battle they openly rebelled because the Asanti didn't request for allies from Fanti but pushed for domination over the Fanti. One of the greatest disaster of the Akan tribe is the inability of the Asanti, Akyem , Fanti, Akwamu, Denkyira etc to agree to have an Akan empire.

The Ashanti got their guns from the Arabs (who had a surplus of guns and materials that Napoleon had left when his Army was stranded in Egypt), the Ashanti did not get their guns from the Europeans. And it took 11 wars over the course of 100 years for the English to defeat the Ashanti.
