Thank you Pete for this fantastic episode! Thank you Mr. Ballard for taking the time to visit The DIS to discuss all your magical findings and information!! In an earlier episode Pete, you introduced (me to) the book, Disneyland Hotel: The Early Years 1954-1988 by Donald W. Ballard. I just had to read this book! I love history, I love Disney, and I love to read! In order to purchase this book, one would have to spend $50 if I remember correctly, so that wasn't happening. So I called my local library. They did not have this book in their inventory so they researched through their database to see which library does have this book so 'we' could borrow it from them. Turns out, within a week, my library had the book for me to check out from a university library in Washington state! I couldn't believe it, that's a far-cry from the Chicagoland area! After a two week loan, I just had to hold on to this book longer, so the university library allowed me to check it out for another month! I was so happy! What a wonderful job Mr. Ballard has done to provide us with all this information and photos, and how lucky beyond he is to be a part of this personally, lucky lucky person!!!!

OMP, this was fantastic! My sister has this book and I try to steal it every time I visit. We had always loved the Disneyland Hotel. We usually stayed in the Bonita Tower. We would have to dedicate our first day to playing at the hotel because it was hard to get our kids away. We especially loved when they had the waterfall and little cave walkways and Captain Koi who would let the children feed the fish in the Koi ponds. Thank you so much for this wonderful edition.

Pete, Thanks so much for all of the people you bring on the show, do interviews with, etc...Bob Gurr, Marty Sklar, Jodi Benson, Don Ballard. You could keep this channel focused on your knowledge of Walt Disney. Instead, you reach out and find ways to introduce your viewers to other Disney experts, legends, etc. Thank you!

Loved this! Makes staying there next month more exciting! I remember staying in the early 90s I believe and stumbling upon the water light show, it was so amazing! Also enjoying Goofys kitchen for the first time. It was just a tiny buffet then. It would be amazing if they would use that film he found and play it somewhere at Disneyland so we can all enjoy it.

They don't care about the history, or the legacy at and of the DL Hotel. We stayed in club level, paid the extra for park view, for a once in a lifetime visit for my daughter. We entered a room, with a broken phone, broken bed lamp, chipped and scared furniture and flying bugs in the room. When I called about this I was TOLD somebody would take care of it and NOTHING was done. When I needed bell services, I literally had to scream to get anybody's attention because nobody was there and nobody responded after multiple call for assistance. The front desk did not care. Didn't even apologize for anything. Just that they must have been "busy". Also claiming I never called to try and CYOB. The meal at Steakhouse 55 was awful considering the price. Nowhere near the meal we had at Cathay. Meat was gristle and fat, not good for a rib-eye (maybe at the Sizzler). I do not send food back as things tend to happen to food. (I have actually seen this happen at other places). This is now just another corporate hotel With no legacy other than trading on a name!

Hank Austin I’m not sure if the fact that you’re so unbelievably ignorant, rude, and classless is distracting or absolutely fascinating. In fact, I’m going to go with fascinating, because I can’t imagine someone as grotesque as you could possibly manage to make it through life and actually accumulate any friends or spouses.

I first visited the park when I was 3 years old and we stayed in the "garden" structures. I've got (somewhere in a box!) an 8mm film of me NAKED frolicking in the fountains! :) Later, in the 80's, I had business with a company in Garden Grove and everytime I drove down there I always worked it out so I could avoid rush hour over a steak at Granville's. Those were the days. I also remember eating at the Shipyard Inn seafood place often and knowing a waiter there whose "problem" was guests joking and asking because Disney insisted all cast members have their real names on their nametags...and his was, really and truly....Mickey. :)
