History of the Humungus Includes Dressing

My brief and honest account of the Humungus or Shuggie as I call it, a now world wide fly that has caught fish all over and not just trout. The is simply in my honest opinion the best all rounder fly there is. Tasmania, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Cuba, Canada, USA to name a few places.

Hook: - Kamasan B175 Size 8
Eyes: - 4mm Toilet Chain (B&Q)
Thread: - Black 6/0 Uni
Tail: - Silver or Gold Flash underneath and Black Velvet Marabou on top
Rib: - Gold or Silver Wire
Body: - Gold or Silver Definite Advantage 6mm Tinsel Chenille
Hackle: - Chinese Cock Hackle 4 Turns Chinchilla Soft and Long
I always tie up a batch of hooks first and have the eyes on them pre-superglued then I do the tails with flash next easiest way.
tie with a 4mm single bead for Fips Mouche Compliance.

fair play mate...........a great pattern with the right shout outs. ive had it in my box for years. also cool shout to sid knight, cause he was the daddy. i live in ireland and beore the tintert, i ordered hammer head buzzers off sid all the time through an advert in trout fisherman mag.........the man was deff a pioneer of stillwater flys

Thanks for sharing this Dave! I think this is the only vid of this awesome pattern on KZbin. I've noticed with my tyings of this that it swims upside down due to the beads being on top. Is that how its supposed to swim?

Yes it will swim upside down and the flash will then be on top :) like an injured fish
