I was a Lego Castle enthusiast from about 1990 to about 2000, at which point high school got in the way of more important things like Lego. When I first started collecting them, the Forestmen were my favorite faction, followed by the Wolfpack, then the Dragon Masters. I still have several old Lego castles in storage, even now.

Those were greqt sets and really the "Golden Era" of vintage sets. I thinks sets we got as kids are always our favorites now. One the biggest sets I frst had was the fire breathing fortress 6082. I'll do a full a review of that soon since even as I write this, it brings back happy memories

@@vintagebricks Fire Breathing Fortress was one of my favorites as well. I especially liked the dragon head statue that could drop rocks. I'm tempted by that giant 90th anniversary castle, but I would have to find space for it if I got it! XD

I've been tossing around the idea of building MOCs of the fright knight sets but more updated and streamlined. Given the fact that most of the fright knight sets are pretty terrible, (subjectively) but the idea of all the flying machines were at least breaking the mold for castle sets. You think it'd be worth taking a shot at?

Hi Jace! You have such creative idea! And that’s the key I think. Maybe it will turn out amazing but no matter what the challenge will be exciting and perhaps frustrating…. It sound pretty interesting as the fright nights could use a good updating. I personally really like the minifigures of this faction! Good luck! James

when i was a kid, i had the lion knights/black falcons sets. i grew up, gave all my toys to poor kids, and entered in my "dark ages". than, already as an adult, i was always nostalgic about those old castle sets i had. so i get tired (and upset) of just remember my old castle, and bought, in 2014, 6 castles and all the sets a could get from the 2013 castle theme (lion knights/dragon knights). now i have a huge moc diorama with more tha 350 minifigs. FANTASTIC time building my new castle colection. however, i must say i was late: the "kingdoms" sets were not for sale anymore, and are, by far, the best among all castle sets ever created by lego.

Great description of your LEGO Journey. I started coming out of my dark age when I went through my kids boxes of castle LEGO in the garage. I ended up buying sets to fill the gaps. I have a few Kingdom sets still in sealed boxes I’m looking forward to opening …. With a glass of wine . Sounds like you have a glorious collection!!! All the best… James

@@vintagebricks ...sealed kingdoms sets !!!!! man, that is absolute fantastic ! and thx, my diorama is really nice. in the current year i got 2 new sets from "Enlightened" castle series (No 1023, same blue color scheme as 2013 lego sets) and about 30 "Koruit" Gondor minifigs (these ones i strongly recomend if you dont mind about brand. it is superior to lego in many aspects). so yes, i dont get mad about my memories of childhood lego sets anymore. but my diorama is nothing compared with your beautiful collection, with so many classic castle sets looking so brand new. you deserve even more. keep it up. it is the most special classic collection i've seen here on youtube.

I'm glad you went into detail about the "sub-factions," though I feel a desire to be semantic & clarify that they are actual factions within different themes. After all, if Crusaders shared a set with the Black Falcons (e.g. 6062), they would not be considered the same faction. Ninja is the castle theme I am mist familiar with & I know that there are at least 4 factions in that theme.

Thanks for giving some needed clarity! I did my best sorting out the sub themes ( factions). But for sure there are lots of nuances I don’t know about. I really need to learn more about the Ninja sets! I didn’t know they had 4 factions! On my todo list now to learn more. I have 2 of the 6093 sets that look pretty cool placed back to back All the best…

@@vintagebricks Neat! 6093 is my oldest set that I still have built. It's such a staple of my early LEGO experience that I only took it apart to clean it. And even though I toyed with the idea of getting a second to completely enclose it, I decided that I liked it in my bookshelf. Expanding it would have pushed it over the edge of the shelf. But could you tell me how you have it displayed? Did you rotate the towers so they all face the same way, or are they oriented with their respective gates? Lastly, I said there were at least 4 factions: Shogun, Emperor, Ninja Princess, & Robbers. There is a potential 5th faction, but they have no sets. They are just the Shogun characters printed on red torsos & with different heads. They were exclusive to Europe for reasons I do not understand, but they are rare & thus expensive.

Cool video. I personally like the Dragon Masters, Dark Forest/ Forestmen, and the Royal Knights sets the best. Ninja also has a super nostalgia factor for me, even though the sets weren't perfect.

I have 3 of the Ninja sets but don’t really understand the characters yet. Always fun to learn new themes though! I really like the Dragon Masters too as these were the sets I got for the kids in the 90s…. So bring back great family memories

Wonderful video I love everything about Castle!!! When I was a kid my favourites were Black Falcon, Wolf pack, Royal (Lion) knights, Dragon masters and Fright knights but about them i owned only the tiny set with Black dragon. Now I like to keep collecting castle minifigures the most!

Lions knights, crusaders and black falcons. I love them. I try to stay away from the forestmen..... They cost a pretty Penny these days! One river crossing went for over 450 euro's overhere. Bonkers!

Great comments. I have an emotional tie to the Yellow castle since it was the first set I collected. Bought it from Goodwill with the box (in poor condition) for 75$. Then bought another with good box from Canada, but there was a 75$ shipping with insurance charge. Yikes! Hopefully Lego keeps releasing new Castle sets that are affordable for new collectors to enjoy... a new Forestmen set would have my vote !

Nice vid. I just won a lot on eBay that had some vintage castle minifigures in it. There are some early figures with the original sticker shields and armor. Thanks for clarifying where they came from..... 👍

@@vintagebricks I received my minifigures, and they were definitely better than expected. In the pictures, I saw two reverse print Black Falcon minifigures. So imagine my surprise when the lot ended up coming with four of them.....!!!! 🤯 Any idea what year these four might have been produced and which sets they may have came in.....? If you haven't already, maybe a video highlighting them would be something you can do in the future. Any info would be appreciated...... 👍

I agree new castle sets/ factions would be awesome! I think nexo knights was their last new theme. I think they are putting more energy in ninjago sets as kids watch all the cartoons out these days

Hummm… dragon knights for sure, and kingdoms theme and 2013 castle theme…. The fantasy era had the red and green dragons to help the skeletons and trolls. So 3 for sure, and maybe 4 but fantasy era didn’t have lion knights… but crown knights so may not count

​@@vintagebricks It might count considering most of the lion knights also have a crown on top of the lion. The new lions knights castle will have treasure with crowns on it and they'll have a crown shield. It's safe to say it may be the same faction, just a different house.

The 21325 Medieval Blacksmith shop is full of falcon guys…. And 10305 new Lion knights has a few falcon minifigs and a crowd funded set castle in the forest”. …. And 31120 set medieval castle

Great question. .. so wanted to be inclusive. but not listed under castle theme in "Bricklink" but is listed as castle them in "Brinkset"... Here is the quote from "Brickpedia". "It is frequently considered to be a subtheme of Castle, as the traditional European-style medieval sets were discontinued the year prior, and the Ninja packaging sports the same shade of orange as the Castle boxes throughout the 1990s. Ninja accessories were also included in 10066 Castle Accessories released in 2002. However, the line was never explicitly advertised as a Castle theme by LEGO." all the best!
