Good video, but a couple suggestions. Have the text slides a little longer because I felt I had to pause on each one or just commentate on those instead of having them as text slides, and try not self promoting with an alt by replying to unrelated comments. Great breakdown though

This isn’t really a rivalry till they’re consistently dueling in finals like Federer/Nadal or Nadal/Djokovic, especially since Naka has yet to come close to challenging for World Champion. Naka is probably the best bullet player right now, and I’d call it level between Carlsen and Naka for blitz. It’s like if Zverev beat Federer/Nadal in Rome or Shanghai, but kept getting defeated in the big Opens. There’s talent, yes, but no rivalry if he isn’t a consistent threat to Carlsen over all time controls.

I guess so. But I'm basing it off the fact that both Magnus and Hikaru say that they'd like to play each other only in finals( rapid/blitz ). Even brackets are usually drawn like that, since Hikaru is rated #1 in blitz, and Magnus #2. And all throughout the Magnus Chess tour, it was always the premier match, Naka Vs Carlsen. So I'm just basing it off these facts. Classical is a completely different story though, it's not even close. And agreed with your point, it's pretty different from Rafa/Roger. In this era of chess, I don't think anyone's come close to giving Magnus a tough fight.

I'm surprised by the amount of positive comments and nice things said about Hikaru here. I don't hate him or anything, but he's been exposed by multiple different chess personalities for being petty, manipulative and really rude to people, nevermind the fact that he has tried to deplatform people and infringe on their livelihoods multiple times, and that's just since he's started streaming. There's also that notorious clip of him attacking Eric Hansen too, which is a bit of a confirmation of his short temper. Magnus doesn't hate him, but he has no respect for him due to the many times he's been petty and unsportsmanlike towards him. Only reason he hasn't really retaliated in any non-memey way is because he knows with the position of power and authority he has, it would be unbecoming of him. Not trying to start a war or anything here with any Hikaru lovers, just encouraging people to look into him, as I probably don't have the full picture either.

...then how come Hikaru is higher rated than Magnus in both blitz and bullet chess ?
@AlexanderNevermind888
@AlexanderNevermind888 3 жыл бұрын
In online chess?? Sorry, but that doesn't mean much. I think people get a bit carried away with online chess ratings and their true meaning in terms of overall skill. Carlsen is the current blitz and rapid world champion. Hikaru plays more online than Magnus, so having a higher rating doesn't mean that he's a "rival". There are some FMs that have astronomical bullet ratings that are hundreds of points higher than GMs. Even higher than Carlsen's. Does that make them a possible contender for a World Chess Championship match? Nope. I have a friend with an OTB rating of about 1500. His bullet rating is around 2000-2100. This only tells me that he's quicker than most with his mouse and premoves. Not that he has extensive chess knowledge.
@igorbednarski8048
@igorbednarski8048 3 жыл бұрын
@@AlexanderNevermind888 they were never rivals in OTB chess, it's always been about blitz and right now Hikaru is #1 with a rating of 2900. > Since April 2020, Nakamura participated in the Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour with a prize pool of $1 million. He won the group stage of Magnus Carlsen Invitational and finished second behind Magnus Carlsen. He beat Carlsen in the semi-finals of Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge but finished second, losing to eventual champion Daniil Dubov in the final. Nakamura qualified for the Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour Finals against Carlsen where he took his opponent to seven matches before drawing an armageddon tie breaker game as white, thus losing the match. The world champion praised Nakamura after the match, saying "he played a great match, he made it extremely difficult for me". >Nakamura won the Chess.com Speed Chess Championship in December. It was his third victory in the format. The site had promoted the knockout tournament by emphasizing a possible rematch of Nakamura and world champion Magnus Carlsen in the final. However, French grandmaster Maxime Vachier-Lagrave defeated Carlsen in their semi-final match, and as a result, earned a spot in the final against Nakamura. In the Speed Chess Championship final, Nakamura defeated Vachier-Lagrave by a score of 18.5-12.5. Nakamura's skill at bullet chess proved to be the deciding factor, as he beat Vachier-Lagrave 8-3 in the bullet section of the match. Previous to the final Nakamura had defeated grandmasters Haik Martirosyan 21-5, Vladimir Fedoseev 21.5-5.5, and Wesley So 13.5-12.5.

@AlexanderNevermind888 3 жыл бұрын
@@igorbednarski8048 I get what you're trying to point out, but I promise you...to Magnus, and probably to most top-level GMs, that online blitz rating has zero meaning. Caruana probably isn't even in the top 25 in blitz, (in fact, he admits that he's not strong in it), yet he's the 2nd highest rated player in the world behind Carlsen, and he's probably one of two or three players who are legitimate rivals to Magnus in terms of classical chess. I get that COVID has made chess a primarily online venue, but the real OTB/FIDE rating system is what really matters in terms of legitimacy to the real chess professionals. I'll bet cash money that those guys are all trying to compete against Magnus, not catch up to Hikaru's online rating.
@igorbednarski8048
@igorbednarski8048 3 жыл бұрын
@@AlexanderNevermind888 1. I am talking about official FIDE blitz rating. Hikaru is number 1 there and Carlsen is number 2 and the current world champion...so he does take it very seriously and definitely is one of the best blitz players in history, just like Nakamura. 2. Yes, Caruana is number 38 in blitz and this weakness cost him dearly, as had he been stronger in blitz he would be World Champion right now. He lost to Carlsen in the blitz tie-breaker instead. The current Tata Steel Masters tournament is just another example of why being strong in blitz is super important - as the players approach time control, games turn into blitz and usually the faster player prevails. Example 1 - Carlsen vs Firouzja on day 1. One dumb move under time pressure by Alireza and he turned a slight edge into a loss by forced checkmate. Example 2 - Caruana vs Duda. Caruana played a brilliant attacking game, one of the best in his career...but he failed to convert it into a win because Duda prevailed and kept his cool while Fabio was inaccurate under time pressure. Guess who is #6 in blitz and who is #38. 3. Why are there FIDE World Championships in blitz if this is such an unimportant discipline of chess? Why is the blitz rating displayed on all player's FIDE official profile alongside classical and rapid if all GM's ignore it?
