The Potters weren't included on the list because the surname was considered a very common muggle name. Not to mention Harry's great granddad Henry Potter was a very pro-muggle member of the Wizengamot and spoke out for muggle rights and wizard intervention into the muggle world. Though by all indications the Potters should have qualified as two men in the family took brides from the Black family and these unions weren't opposed by the awfully rigid Black family and their pureblood mania.

Tiere was a misconception in the video: marrying a halfblood was not considered enough to stain the bloodline. Some of the families listed in the sacred 28 married halfbloods on a regular basis, only the absolute strictest thinking families like for example the Malfoys only married other members of the sacred 28. So in fact Harry‘s children could be considered pureblood again, as he was a halfblood and his wife was a pureblood. Some families were also left out in the sacred 28 because of their pro muggle views, for example the potters. They were pureblood until James married Lilly, but weren‘t listed in the sacred 28, as some of the potters worked actively against anti muggle laws.

@shepwillner75072 жыл бұрын
At the end of this video, you asked viewers if they learned anything new, my reply is Yes, I did learn a few new things. 1. I learned how far back the Gaunts, Voldemort's mother's lineage, went--all the way back to the 17th century to a witch with that name. As Dumbledore explained in Book 6, Half-Blood Prince, the Gaunts once were very wealthy, but their tendency to interbreed and extravagant lifestyle led to their becoming penniless, as we also saw in that book: they ended up living in a hovel; 2. I also learned about the ancestry of Ollivander's family and their involvement in creating wands for wizards: all the way back to earlier than 382 AD. Frankly, though, if Ollivander did come to Britain with the Romans as this video suggested, then this emigration had to have occurred either during the 1st century BC or afterwards, under Emperor Hadrian; 3. Clearly, some of the Sacred 28 Wizarding Families either hated their inclusion in the directory while other families disliked their exclusion; 4. The pure-blood BS sounds more like an attempt to defend their so-called pure-bloodlines, but as any historian could tell you, the tendency to interbreed among royalty and noble families typically leads to mental instability and the royal disease, aka hemophilia. 5. Related to the pure-blood BS, there are some parallels to to the Muggle world of the Nazis' belief in pure blooded Germans, aka the Aryan "race".

@melissamoyer81032 жыл бұрын
That has no correlation in actuality. Just in pure blood ideology. Take Hermionie vs Draco or Ron both boys are pure bloods each directly from 2 different of the S28 and she a “muggle born” and she has more ability than both. Though I believe that muggle norms are descended from squibs cast out by pure blood families. The gene is probably recessive for magic thus occasionally skips a person or is carried and pops up at random. Or in the case of pairing where both parents are carriers of the gene (as is usual for magical families to mix with other magic families) then it’s normal for the recessive gene to continue. Magical genetics would be fun to explore

Slytherin was correct though - during his life muggles would try to kill wizards. However, looking back the idea is now outdated. But he had correct thinking and fear of muggle borns hurting his school which he worked so hard to build back in that era.

Yes. I think people forget that possibility of muggleborns conspiring against the wizarding world in those days especially since we know some wizards and witches (ironically Malfoys) did fight alongside Muggles for various reasons. Or what if the parents of the child feared their powers and ratted them out. It was war and conflict. And even in the modern era, the wizarding world could be exposed and endangered by a careless, radical or vindictive muggleborn one day (not likely, but possible)

People in the MA did not believe in witchcraft (very broadly summarized) - it was even seen as as superstition (thanks Edward Gibbon, Hollywood, rabid atheists (not an attack on atheism in general but merely an observation that some people should listen to historians, not scientists and comedians when it comes to history). Those who burnt people as witches (men and women) were persecuted as murderers in medieval times. Witch hunts began in the early modern period (roughly after 1450). And if catholics did find a witch and she believed in God she was fine - because after all magic was made by God so why persecute them. That was pretty much the opinion of people at the time.

I do like the theory presented by Hogwarts Legacy that one in a blue moon, a random non-magical human is given the power of Ancient Magic that enables them to use magic at age 15, and these are meant to be the progenitors of new pure-blood wizard families. 15 is biologically mature enough for child rearing, after all, and remember, these are Ancient standards we are going off of. This also explains how wizards and Muggles can interbreed when magic is explicitly a genetic trait, and even Muggle-borns are confirmed to have a magic ancestor, even if only a Squib.

@HarryPotterTheory I wish you could've at least mentioned the Potter family in this video. The Potters were, for many generations, Pure-blood, up until the birth of Harry Potter in 1980, but they were excluded from the Sacred 28 due to their egalitarian stance on blood purity. Henry Potter (known as Harry to his friends), served in the Wizengamot from 1913 to 1921. He condemned the Minister for Magic at the time, Archer Evermonde, for forbidding the magical community from helping the Muggles fighting during the First World War. His outspokenness on behalf of the Muggle community, along with the fact that Potter is also a relatively common surname in the Muggle world, led to the exclusion of the Potter family from the 'Sacred 28' list. Despite being branded "blood traitors" for their openness to Muggles, the Potters were considered a respectable family with a certain status, on a par with others such as the Macmillans, the Longbottoms and the Prewetts. This is the reason why Dorea Black (born into the House of Black) wasn't disowned for marrying Charlus Potter. This is in stark contrast to Cedrella Black (Arthur's mother) who was disowned for marrying a Weasley (Arthur's dad).

What's interesting is that theoretically 28 families from a 1000 years ago should be enough to have a wizard population flourish based in current progeny and genealogy theories ( basically the current theory is that everyone if European descent shares a common ancestor from about 1000 years ago, with most sharing relationships with the past King John of England. Obviously wizards/witches live for much longer, and have 3 to 4 great Wizarding wars but it almost appears magical families came out of nowhere 1000 years ago. What is the source and discovery of magic, why does it randomly show up in muggle born families...and obviously there are pure blood lines who have squibs (hence why longbottom family were afraid Neville was one). This all makes me think that the reason why purebred families value magical purebred is because there is a belief you will not lose magical Prowess with pure bloodlines but from my recollection I don't think it's ever been explained what the source of magic is. If muggles can randomly show signs of magic...how does this manifest and is that a sign of a new potential pure bloodline after a few generations? Or did all bloodlines start as magical and overtime lose their magical properties. Are muggles actually just squibs? And above all else, why did muggles win over wizards...why did the global magical community agree to go into hiding and not enslave muggles. So many questions that I'm sure some are answered
@maksimilian5282 жыл бұрын
I doubt that all of those families are a 1000 years old. It's never mentioned how old they all are, but i doubt they are all that old. And about that muggle enslavement thing. In PS Hagrid says it's better for wizards to hide, or else it would be problematic. Also wizards can't just enslave muggles. That's what sparked the war between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, who wanted magical people to rule.
@bryanfan31752 жыл бұрын
not only that, pretty sure the wizards went into hiding because of the lynching of witches, which everyone knows of. However, who knows why they decided to go into hiding considering civilizations before the middle ages use to view witches and wizards as somewhat like sages that were powerful.
@shepwillner75072 жыл бұрын
You ask really good questions, Cheetah 219. Perhaps I can answer one of them: The source or discovery of magic. One such source could be traced back to the time of Egyptian Pharaohs, whose viziers or magicians gave us the word "wizard". You might recall how Ramsses the Great's court magicians had a duel with Moses and Aaron in the Bible with respect to whose staffs and serpents were stronger: Moses's and Aaron's serpent won that duel when their serpent ate the Pharaoh's serpent. That said, I would not be surprised if magic and wizardry went back further into prehistory than this Biblical story. For example, one has to be able to account for the presence of Merlin: he was the famous court magician in the King Arthur tales. Where did he, Morgana, and the Lady of the Lake come from, a line of Druids? As for why the global wizarding community went into hiding, one of those reasons was described Book 7, the Deathly Hallows: an International Degree of Secrecy issued in the mid-17th century, which in turn led to the creation of the Ministry of Magic, its location beneath the streets of London, and almost every wizard going into hiding before emerging in the first 2-3 decades of the 20th century. I have two questions for you: 1. How exactly was the Ministry of Magic able to construct its HQ deep underground w/o the Mugggle world ever knowing about its construction? IOW, were cloaking and Obliviate spells used to that lasted just long enough for construction engineering wizards to build all those offices, corridors, and elevators? and 2. Before the start of the International Quidditch Final match, why didn't Britain's immigration authority not notice the huge number of wizards and witches apparating and flying into the country? Was some kind of spell used to Obliviate the minds of Muggle Immigration officers that allowed all those people to simply enter and leave the UK the next day after the Irish team won? Apparently, those wizards apparating or entering the UK via their broomsticks either don't possess passports, or they ignore the necessity of passports.
@maksimilian5282 жыл бұрын
@@shepwillner7507 To answer your questions. 1. I assume the ministry used memory charms as well as concealement and protection charms. They may also use some extension charms, and with all this together the ministry is able to hide from the muggles. That's my theory. 2. What makes you think the muggles would know about magical folk traveling to the quidditch cup. But i think they do have some kind of passports for those that travel with conventional ways, as we saw in FB when Newt traveled to NY on a ship, and he had a passport (i think). And also i'm not sure they apparated at all. I think most witches and wizards used portkeys to travel to UK. At least the weasleys used one.

Marriage between close families like cousins kept the lines from properly flourishing. There are far less magical people than regular humans and while more difficult they are still vulnerable to muggle warfare items like swords, arrows, bullets and bomb. They’d put up a hell of a fight but would eventually be overwhelmed. People fear what they don’t know and can’t control and magic falls into that category for muggles so while I doubt and real witches or wizards were killed during the hunts back in the day it would be enough to drive the population further into secrecy if they were afraid to live being hunted just because they helped their neighbors. For all we know the ministry could’ve began in a small underground basement with the use of extension and silencing charms and grew extensively over time and became more modernized as was necessary in time. I doubt it was done in a few weeks. Afterall even Rome wasn’t built in a day 😏

There were no pureblood families. The Weaselies said that they had Muggle ancestors which pretty much puts into question the other families ancestry. The Malfoys were a pureblood family since the late 1700s since the statute of secrecy was put in place. I think the Blacks and Lestranges were purebloods since the middle ages. The Gaunts were said to be descendants of Salazar Slytherin although I wonder about other ancestors they might have had. Also, I wonder about Salazar Slytherin being a pureblood himself. It's said that the Elder Wand switches allegiance when it's current owner is defeated - whilst typically interpreted as being killed, this could also be seen as them losing a duel, or them having their grand plans being foiled by an individual. Whilst Grindelwald did not kill Gregorovitch, he did beat him in a duel (although said duel only consisted of a single stunner against an unarmed man), and he did foil Gregorovitch's grand plan of replicating the Elder Wand's powers. Similarly, Draco Malfoy didn't kill Dumbledore, but he did beat him in a duel (again, only with a single spell) and he did foil Dumbledore's grand plan of having Snape defeat him at his own request.

The Potters lost pureblood status as late as when James (pureblood) married Lily (muggleborn), making Harry a half-blood. The Weasleys lost pureblood status on two counts - 1) Ginny (pureblood) married Harry (half-blood) making James Sirius, Lily Luna and Albus Severus half-bloods. 2) Ron (pureblood) married Hermione (muggleborn), making Rose and Hugo half-bloods.

Or maybe Magic is both a bloodline thing, but also a natural 'chance thing' for those with some sort of magic-heritage blood back in the familyline? I also wonder if magical-inclined people is affected somewhat differently from inbreeding compared to normal mugglefolk... as in some disfigurement seems to still pop up, but there's also vindictiveness, lack of empathy, etc. Like maybe the magic within them itself twists a bit and thusly this effect?

Technically, the dementor didn't kill Barty Crouch Jr, it sucked out his soul and damaged his self-conciousness beyond repair. He suffered a faith far worse than Death and eventually He would die from it, but that's like torturing somebody into incureable Madness, Like Neville's parents, they wouldn't die from the torture but eventually die because they couldn't recover

The only thing that always annoys me about the history of the wizarding world is the fact that Rowling seemingly cant read a history book. Romans in Britain in the fourth century bc? Yeah sure we arent hundreds of years early. Lots of Witch burnings in the tenth century? I mean i guess its a common missconception, but still no. That didnt trend until the seventeenth century. I mean come on, especially the first one. Its not hard.
I laughed when one of the family's name was Parkinsons. I was not expecting that

Hey I have a question what could be a nice subject for one of your vid’s Are the three games from the goblet of fire, the same games they play every tri wizard tournament? Actually I don’t think so. But what are other games that have been played in all those 350+ tri wizard tournaments? Do you have any examples? I don’t think the games are always the same!

They aren't same, or it would be so obvious what is going to happen.

@@infoaviation3619 so that leaves my other question. What are examples of these games?
@infoaviation36192 жыл бұрын
@@DFerro-kb9qh well, if I tell the truth, I was born in the muggle world, however no one dreamed before the goblet of fire came out that there would be such games such taskes played. To answer your question precisely however, I think there might have been a dueling competition. Or a quiz, with some demon asking you questions after you have eeached a particular position of the game. I however suspect that the maze is always the same, with diffrent obstacles each time. And the possibilities are endless.

@@infoaviation3619 so again, you don’t know? Of course i also have ideas about which games. Thanks for guessing, but i can do that as well. Your input was very valuable man, twice

So, this is actually a huge plot hole in the story. Voldemort basically kept himself to Europe, primarily the UK. There are supposedly more than 11 schools, and many wizards in the world beyond that area. Voldemort would likely have faced destruction at the hands of thousands of powerful wizards from other areas.

Put some respect on the Prewitt name the brothers killed many death eaters before they were killed. They were heros of the 1st war.
