Should be emperor when the ruler call themselves emperors. Yuan was Sino-lised. Ancient Mongolians were not Pan-Turkic people.That modern Turkish concept did not apply. Sino-lised titles were almost always used in Northern Yuan and East Asia. For example, Geldan Kahn’s formal title was Huang Tain Zhi, or “crowned prince” in Chinese. Turks did not have much to do with East Asia after they were driven West ward. Now they come up with a Pan- Turkic dream and hope all tribes bow to Istanbul. Mongolians are not Turkish, ever.

1. Mongolia didn't exist as a country until it declared independence from China. So, let's start there. They were Mongols, not "Mongolians". 2. Manchuria isn't also isn't a country...and never was a country. 3. Different ethnicities have existed all throughout what we now call China since pre-antiquity. By your logic, Yunnan should be an independent state and Guangdong and Guangxi should be a part of Vietnam. 4. Establishing a dynasty wasn't a matter of ethnicity, but a matter of support of the people and how much land was controlled. At the start of every single dynasty of China, the dynasty was able to gain control because they had the support of a sizable portion of local population...most of whom were Han. Kublai couldn't have established the Yuan without the Han. Nurhachi couldn't have taken out the Ming without the Han people, period. This is an extreme difference between China under Japanese rule which is martial law. 5. The Jurchen Jin 金 Dynasty (which was established by the same ethnicity that later became known as Manchu) was a Chinese dynasty recognized by Chinese ancestors long before the Qing came around. Is Zhu Yuanzhang less than your ancestors *and* your dog? 6. Being Chinese isn't exclusive to being Han in the same way that China isn't exclusive to the Han people's homelands. If the Qing Dynasty isn't China, then Tibet, Xinjiang, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Taiwan, and parts of Inner Mongolia should be given up immediately and left to fend for themselves.

There are people who hate to tell Europeans that Mongolians conquered China and founded a country, but sometimes they like it, so they like to resemble Chinese costumes in time after wearing the traditional Mongolian costume dell.

To be honest, the Yuan dynasty in China is always ignored by Chinese mainly because it’s a foreign empire and it doesn’t last long compared to other dynasties.

You can see Chinese people making lots of TV shows or documentaries of other dynasties like Tang &Qing. But we don’t consider Mongol empire as authentic Chinese dynasty I guess. So we don’t see Mongol clothing as “real Chinese clothing” (Hanfu/Manchu clothes) but minority clothing yes.

@@christinem4266 Yeah. I feel like the only dynasties we see in TV are Tang, Ming, and Qing. It’d be nice to see others like Zhou or even Yuan considering how much culture flourished at that time. But I don’t think the Han majority would feel as comfortable watching so many explicitly non-Han in high ranking positions of authority like they were in the Yuan dynasty. In the Qing dramas, we know they’re not Han, but the Manchus were more sinicized though they, at least during Kangxi’s time, thought they were more culturally connected to the Mongols.

@@tc2334 I mean isn’t the Qing dynasty foreign too ? They were manchurians after all which are the jurchen people so they are not Chinese so why would y’all include them and not the yuan ?

@@Fornacis69 Well, the Manchus/Jurchens are little less "foreign" than the Mongols. Remember, the Jurchens had already been partially sinicized since the time of the Jin Dynasty (with farming, style of government, writing, Confucianism etc.). Also, the Manchu people, while not Han, originate in what we call China today and don't have an established country outside China. Further, the Yuan Dynasty didn't technically "fall" the way the other dynasties did. The Yuan Dynasty fled back to the Mongolian steppe where they continued the dynasty for another almost 300 years. When the Qing fell, all Manchus meshed into Chinese society. Lastly, the Qing Dynasty was the closest dynasty to the modern era and a whole bunch of things from documents to buildings, jewelry, clothing, etc. are all still around and in good condition. So, even though the Manchus were considered "others" at the time and even now people still resent them/the Qing Dynasty for a whole bunch of things like ethnic discrimination and holding China back during the Industrial Revolution, people still don't mind making/watching Qing Dynasty dramas because of all the aforementioned reasons. As for the Yuan, honestly, it gets a bad rap. The most people know about it is that: Mongols killed a lot of Han. Mongols put themselves at the top of a four tier caste system that Han were at the bottom half of (which isn't actually documented, but it's like folk history), Yuan Dynasty was the biggest China ever was, and Yuan Dynasty was super disorganized and corrupt. It was SO much more than that, but I don't think movie/tv show makers here in China care to go through the trouble of glossing over the wrongs of the Yuan. They'd rather stick to the easy stuff.
