I just learned that Grid is the successor of ToCA

Compared to modern games, Toca 3 is still a huge game. There was so much diversity and tracks, granted some vehicles handled better than others. Codemasters should reboot that game, trim the fat, add GRID 1 career elements and that could be the game to win me back. Recent titles just didn't cut it for me, even though G:AS was an improvement from grid 2.

The first game in this series I play is GRID, and then I have GRID 2 and enjoy with GRID Autosport. But I think TOCA Race Driver 3 is the true king of this series.

Toca 3 was an outstanding game and to this day there hadn't been a game like it in term of content of cars and race series! What i would give for a new game on current gen consoles to include BTCC DTM WTCC and Aussie Supercars get it sorted codemastrrs!!!!

I think that Toca Race Driver 3 was better than both Grid games. Not because of graphics but it had a lot more possibilities (more cars and tracks, great diversity from kart to Monster truck, SUPERB offline multiplayer (better than any recent racing game can give you), great graphics for a 2006 game)

2:00 - the PS1 driver's PoV is unmatched - probably even into the subsequent console era - and the addition of PS1 system link through the serial cable for the NTSC-U region puts the value proposition of this title on PS1 well ahead of everything else... good headphones / earbuds and the installation of tactile transducers for each of 2 players on their own full-screen will give each person an impressively immersive experience with functional mirrors, various levels of broken and even altogether missing glass, audibly stereoscopic curbs while feeling them shudder up through your seat and into your body as if you were there. It's also possible to add a real-world handbrake handle to the controls of a wheel+pedal set using an external sort of programmable signal injector which gets sequentially plugged in between the wheel+pedals and the controller port; but, handbraking only seems enabled for the dirt track, IIRC. Stellar and shouldn't be compared to GT.

Does the Australian release have online multiplayer? ToCA 3 has some online activity still today (beyond just the LAN tunneling) and ToCA 2 is supposed to have online multiplayer as well albeit with some workarounds. If you're equipped, hop online for some racing. I'll give ya a couple DNSs of fan servers if you're interested.... If feasible, though, you *might* have better connection through the USA server but either network setting can be selected and tried out. Let me know.

The first Toca often had cars suffering from snap oversteer when cornering, this handling problem was fixed for the way superior Toca 2, which was an absolute classic and one of my all time fave racers!

Even to this day TOCA3 still holds up really well. I think that Codemasters should reboot the franchise and make TOCA4(Grid 2 wasn't all that great but Autosport is certainly a step in the right direction)

I absolutely loved the original Toca Touring Cars. I was as into Touring Cars at the time as I was the game and it was just the perfect fusion... The pandemonium of the race weekends could easily translate over onto the game and it was intense. The only thing missing was Murray Walker. And who could forget Tiff Needel shouting "Cheat mode enabled!" when you typed the likes of CMTANK in as your name? Those who did it know what the results were. What a game!

In my opinion, TOCA Race Driver 3 is up to now the best game of the series, it has more variety in the choice of cars / racing and much better realism in handling, even if the graphics are inferior to the GRID series. It reminds me of the Tomb Raider series, where the games of the series until Tomb Raider 6 (The Angel of Darkness), although having inferior graphics to the newest ones, have this "something" that the newest ones completely lack, to the point of being abandoned by many fans. Do other people agree?

IIRC, the only PS1 release I have so far is the NTSC-U/C's Touring Car Challenge: ToCA 2 for the PS1 to see the PS1's serial I/O system link in action. Don't think there were as many NTSC-U/C titles released here - we may be missing one/our release was notably different. [Going to dig out the Touring Car Challenge: ToCA 2 when I get home to see if there's a way to enter that cheat code.]

My childhood was based around toca touring cars and toca 2... I absolutely loooved those games! Epic games! Didn't really place any of the other games until grid.. what can I say.. I only kept that console so I could play grid.. possible one of the best car games ever made! I bought grid 2 the week it came out and was very very disappointed, I sold it a week later 😪 I just hope they get back what they lost because those games I mentioned are epic! Strange, I remember playing a game called TOCA 2 on PS1 many many years ago but I remember it being much more realistic, the turning being more "heavy" like in Gran Turismo 2, the car would not turn so quickly like this. Think I read somewhere on a shared spreadsheet that ToCA 2 will race online after implementing some workarounds. ToCA *3* online multiplayer (not referring LAN multiplayer tunneling) connects online easy enough as-is.

I enjoyed the video with the exception of the pointless music. Also GRID doesn't have a 10 second flash back. The mechanic is bound to frames and therefore can be longer/shorter based on FPS.
