I really loved his attitude. His hippy turned bushman vibe I really liked. He didn’t fight with nature like some survivors. He made the right choice in season 5 as he is a 50 year old man and starving himself twice is no bueno.
@shieldmaiden0006 жыл бұрын
Out of all the contestants, Dave is the only one that I respected for needing to go home. He didn't go out there seeking some spiritual healing or anything like that. He wasn't always whining over missing his family or friends. He went knowing he will be alone and he knew he might have to starve again, but he quit when he was almost to his last ounce of fat and knew it better to quit now than when it was too late. When your teeth are loose in your gums, than you know the body is taking a beating. Dave, sorry you stressed so much about killing animals for consumption, but I understand it is your kind nature. But you knew you would have to kill to survive. With that said, you finished giving it your all. Good for you.

Bill Randall, it is MUCH easier to cut ground wood to manageable length with a saw than to chop it with an axe. It is also FAR safer. One slip with an axe and you are done.

@Well_I_am_just_saying6 жыл бұрын
Bill Randall Actually, he had 33 fillets at the end. I just re-watched the episode. It was probably only about as many calories as he would burn in 3 days. He should have immediately stored those fish on his body by eating them as soon as he caught them. Rationing his fish at 100 calories per day did not make any sense considering that he burns approximately 2000 calories per day simply resting.
@infinitemonkey9176 жыл бұрын
This show should be called Starvation, not Alone. After the weaker people and freak incidents are out, it comes down to who can avoid starvation and suffer the longest.
@jlogan22286 жыл бұрын
Deemantos that's part of survival though. Dave for example had a decent food haorde that could've been far better used insted of eating one fillet every other day. As soon as he was too weak to string his bow that should've clued him in to eat more. Since he didn't he had to be medically forfoeghted
@infinitemonkey9176 жыл бұрын
That is true but he chose not to eat enough of it and was pulled out do to starvation. It's probably because he was starving, thus mental deterioration, that he made the wrong choice to horde rather than eat his fish. Anyway, he is a good candidate to win this season.

Did I just see an experienced Alone contestant pull out a Morakniv Companion? I'm not knocking the Companion. It is an amazing knife for the money (I have two), but it seems foolish to bring a budget knife onto a survival show, and I know I'd never do it.
@amo7576 жыл бұрын
They are very tough knives, the rubber handle is more comfortable than harder scale materials like G10, and they sharpen easily. Wise choice in my opinion.
@jlogan22286 жыл бұрын
Budget knives can be just as tough as more expensive ones. Most knives budget or not will perform about the same and there's no sense in spending $200 or more on a bush knife that a cheaper knife will do the same job
@leopowers82416 жыл бұрын
I always use the mora companion, the best medium-small knife out there, in my opinion. Super strong, stays sharp a long time, solid and comfortable grip, good for batoning, excellent for whittling... Lots of reasons to love it. :) it would be my choice if i was on this show...

@sw0mpy6 жыл бұрын
What, no saw? An axe is primarily used for wood splitting. For woodcutting a good Silky saw is at least 50% more efficient than any axe. Unless you have a stove that can only fit a particular size wood, there is really no need to split huge amounts of wood out there. Why is everybody bringing an axe?
@bushcraftcountryskills5526 жыл бұрын
I guess anaxe is more exiting than a saw... And more versetile. You could survive with no knife and saw as long as you have an axe. But I agree he should have traded one of his other items for a saw.
@funonvancouverisland6 жыл бұрын
sw0mpy couldn't agree with you more my friend. Something about an axe that inhearantly speaks to us, but at the end of the day it's all about the saw.
@bushcraftcountryskills5526 жыл бұрын
Yep the guy in season 3 who was running around in the wet dirt and stuck his axe in his arm...
@sw0mpy6 жыл бұрын
I see you are trying to be ironic here. We all know it was a knife. But still, for splitting wood in survival situation it is way safer to baton it with a large knife that to use an axe. I like the cutting tools that Nicole brought. She had a large knife, large saw and a modified Leatherman. With those tools there isn't much you can't do. In theory you should bring with you the things that are the hardest to make or find in nature.

@6foot8jesuspilledpureblood825 жыл бұрын
With a 22. This wouldn't even be a challenge.. you could literally sit there and wait for small game to pop every day and likely stay pretty fed. The show would go on for 200 plus days so it simply wouldn't be viable for the producers to allow.

Make a gill net. Really how many days work would that take and how much of your paracord would you end up wasting to do it. If your going to want to bring one it would be best to buy a good quality net. If they send you to a place with good fishing maybe bow-fishing might be better, less likely to get tangled on some junk in the water and lose the entire net.

This show is becoming more stupider by the season. Why bring so call survival expertise back when they have already failed. There all plenty of other that would love the opportunity like me. Brad was on it once and lasted a day, now he lasts a week. All knew what is coming and he quit of hunger. Carleigh quit cause fish hook got caught on her hand, and Nicole quite cause of MS attack. This is just beyond stupid and boring now. Why bother being a participant if you knew you have some sort of health issue knowing that it might be the cause of you quitting. I hate it when they know what it is about and all they talk about is oh my family this family that blah blah blah. I'm not an expert but dam well I will outlast any one of these contestants.
@jlogan22286 жыл бұрын
Long Yoa if you applied and weren't chosen obviously they didn't think you could do it
@longyoa20706 жыл бұрын
J Logan not hard to survive with 10 items..these contestant are not what the show claim them to be. The show (History) touts the participants as "elite survivalists picked from 35,000 applicants...the best of the best", then you see this guy toss 4 big fish in a puddle for "overnite storage" as he calls it. So clueless not to think predators would scoop them up. There also wasn't enough oxygen in that puddle anyway. Smoke the extra fish." It seem the producers only want the weak and the inept, with some sort of hook for the audience, pretty boy or lady, kids at home, transgender, fat, etc.. It costs them a million $ a month to keep their rescue teams afield. They want this show to end in 2 months.
@jlogan22286 жыл бұрын

i think all the folks on the internet who think they could outlast everyone on the show don't really understand that being on the show and making real choices is way harder than just telling everyone how successful you would be, and everything you would do. To actually understand them, you'd honestly probably have to go out to Mongolia and do exactly what they have to do. It's easy for us to claim we have superior skills when we can test them easily in our much more controlled, safe environments, because the fact is, most of the folks on here are really skilled. They are smart and have practiced all this stuff loads of times, but actually being out on the show, surviving out in the woods, it's a completely different thing. You also have to take into account the fact that each on of them gets maybe 30 mins of their whole experience on the full season. even if they only last only 3 weeks, it's maybe 1/600th of the time they spent filming, and 1/2000th of their actual time there. Just saying, but we only see their most TV worthy moments, when they do something exciting or funny, or a lot of time, stupid. So don't judge them from the tiny fraction of their experience you got to see. And you should apply to be on the show if you do think you would be that much better than any of them. :)
