Out of all the Gods in the Franchise,Athena was always the good of them all,caring and protecting her Half Brother shows her Kindness and to be the Opposite of her Brother Ares,but after her death and Kratos opening Pandora's Box,she became the very thing she despises the most,becoming like Ares,Athena is a interesting and tragic Character that in many ways she's a Fallen Hero and deep down in a way Kratos blame himself of what he has done,there's a chance that Athena would return in Ragnarok but only time will tell.

Yeah Athena is very interesting character, there's the whole thing with her ascending to the "Higher Plane Of Existence" which God Of War developer Cory Barlog describes as a realm with higher power which implies there are Gods which exist up there which would mean in God Of War there exist higher dimensional Gods which transcend the mythology Gods on Earth, Cory Barlpg also hinted at the idea of Athena being the end all be all villain of the God Of War franchise, someone had asked Cory on Twitter if he remembered his 2010 God Of War interview where he talked about how Athena's ambition in God Of War 3 was to be the "One True God" and Cory responded to this fans question by saying "She Will"

She is....and technically she outlived all the other Greek Pantheon. Well at least the ones we've seen in game. Apollo, Artemis, and a few others that were mentioned in name or title but never shown. Aphrodite who we do see..but have not clue what happened to her... Also it seems that she mastered her astral form even better than Zeus himself, even after her corporeal form was killed. And by lore, she was expected to be the next fitting ruler of the pantheon after Zeus and the other first/elder gods died.
