I believe there is enough to legitimately make Hydro canon as an Earthrealm warrior that the Shirai Ryu can bring in for the New Era's MK II. I see a lot that can be done to differentiate him from Rain, and keep a distinguishing aspect or two that the water mage does not have.

I’ve always liked the idea of making hydro another cyber ninja, similar to frost and reminiscent of cyber subzero. Plus with the powersuits, making Hydro and Frost true cybers (later to be joined or preceded by cyber male Sektor and Syrax) with maybe Oniro become the “black” triborg) could enhance the sci-fi aspects of the world.

@DJDTHTRP Shirai Ryu? 🤣😂 Nah M1K has to many good guys Hydro would be better off as Rain's unknown half brother who has joined Shao & Reiko's Rebellion to over throw Mileena off the throne. It'll make him more relevant & have a better role than to bend over for Scorpion. But then Ed Boon & Dominic prove they can't write MK since M1K story was a major flop since launch & went full on Marvel.

I think Hydro could be reintroduced in the New Era as the next Sub-Zero. Similar to how Kuai was Tundra before taking up the mantle in the classic stories, would make sense for someone else to take the role. I know I know "but he's a hydromancer". In reality, Hydro was displayed to have cryomancy powers too, despite the namesake. One could assume perhaps Kuai's powers used to be lesser before he became Tundra. Great video!

I had the idea of Hydro in the Mortal Kombat sequel, with him being the third brother, the middle child between Kuai Liang and Bi-Han. He'd be a decent fighter but nowhere even near his brother and the fact he couldn't use cryomancy made him a disappointment for his clan. His story would be he's escaping Netherrealm with his little brother because after the last movie Shao Khan would be furious and started allowing Shang Tsung to start experimenting on the Lin Kuei, leading to the creation of Noob Saibot. He'd join the heroes under the condition they protect his brother but would die near the end at the hands of Noob, with Cole promising to protect Kuai Liang which Hanzo would hate and disowning him.

Honestly I was thinking that with the overhaul Rain got from Ninja to Mage, Hydro could easily fill the slot of "Water Ninja" Rain used to have tbh. He even has electrical powers in some stories, too.

I think Hydro could be a mix of Sub-Zero, Smoke, and Rain, being able to shift his body to different states of water. That being Solid(Ice), Liquid(Water), and Gas(Steam or Mist). While also being able to change the temperature between freezing cold and boiling hot, something no other mk character can do to my knowledge. So I think he is very unique and could make for a very great addition to MK. All he's missing is some good lore to entangle him into the story of MK.

@solonsaturngaming3727 Yes and no. No one in Mortal Kombat can do what Hydro can do, not even Rainin the past who was a literal demigod. Chameleon utilizes the abilities of all the ninjas, and the only characters like him are Shang Tsung, Khameleon, and Shujinko. If done right, Hydro would play differently from Sub-Zero, Smoke, and Rain. Nothing like MK has ever seen. But if Chameleon was done right though, I could see him being a future big bad with that much power.

Hydro should be Kuai Liang and Sub Zero should be Bi Han. Where there is water, there is ice and where there is ice, there is water.

Hydro was introduced as cyborg for the first time in our M.U.G.E.N. game (Mortal Kombat Project). He was a secret character unlockable by an Ultimate Kombat Kode in MKP 4.0 and then part of the main roster (from start) later on in MKP 4.1 This was around mid 2000s

Here's how they should introduce Hydro if they decide to make him official character, first thing they need to do, is to give back Sub Zero his original light blue color that he had in klassic era because that shade of blue is way more cold and ice looking then his current one. And then give Sub Zero's current dark blue to Hydro because that blue looks more wet and cold water looking and it would match Hydro perfectly and would separate him from Sub Zero. He also needs to be different from Rain so his water powers should be like water bending from Avatar show, turning water into ice and reverse which means being able to freeze his opponents with ice cold water. Which is really unique and we only saw Cetrion doing it once, so having Hydro doing that all the time would be very nice. If you remember Rain's move from MK9 and MK11 he could splash his opponents with boiling hot water, so Rain being able to increase his water temerature and Hydro reducing his, is another good way to Seperate them. They should also give Hydro his two straight katanas that he had in comics and voila ! We have another palette swapped ninja !

How about if Sub Zero should be Bi Han while Hydro should be Kuai Liang since Bi Han as Sub Zero was light blue and Kuai Liang as Sub Zero was dark blue since MK3?

Given rain is fundamentally different in this timeline. I can see Hydro existing and even becoming the new grandmaster. Probably becoming the new subzero later, with rivalry with frost for the spot, not nessecarily in the antogonistic sense like she was in other timelines but an entirely different relationship with hydro. Hydro could technically use cryomancy but not as good as subzero more affinity with hydromancy. Eventual teamup with frost that makes thier cryomancy greater than what bihan could ever do. Next game could have hydro trying to compete for that role while competing with frost. And becoming grandmaster in the end and gaining the title of subzero from bihan himself. This of course being a substory within the main plot.

I kinda feel a different type of villain will be established. Onaga will be featured but he was more or less the creator of the realms. MK has jumped to a different timeline type of series, so I think we would need a new more dangerous Onaga level villain. Kronika maintained the timeline but what if she was protecting it from someone more dangerous?

I know this might be wrong, but I've always believed that Hydro was in fact what inspired the creation of Rain in the first place. I mean, come on, a "ninja" that mostly has water based attacks with *some* control over storms? That feels pretty cut and dry to me. But I can see why people think Hydro should be their own unique character. But I kinda feel like that's gonna be impossible cause people will just assume he's a ripoff of Rain. That's probably the stigma that'll plague the fanbase for those who don't understand the bigger picture.

Next game should bring in all the ninjas and start from there in my opinion. Including Chrome and Floyd. I don't care too much for hydro but I wouldn't mind his inclusion if they can make him stand out from Rain.

That's exactly why Hydro has never appeared. In the early story drafts, Rain was also going to be an assassin from Lin Kuei. It's as if Hydro's idea completely became Rain

@@Thelastairbendy Nope. That was just a rumor caused by manual errors. It was even debunked later on. Not only Tremor's bio wasn't given to Rain, but Tremor was never even considered for Mk Trilogy

No disrespect because I fw dude, but forget Hydro, we need the final two canon ninja brought into the new gen games before adding any of the non-canon ones like Hydro, Oniro, Komodai, and Khrome. Chameleon and Wu Lae haven't been seen since Armageddon, and Wu Lae had still only been an NPC sub-boss like Tremor started out as in MK: Special Forces. The rainbow and orange ninja deserve at least a cameo. Wu Lae had A LOT of potential combat and story wise as well.

Honestly, I can see potential for Hydro as a Cyborg character. Have him keep his electricity from channeling it from his power core, but i think the main addition is him being able to siphon water vapor from the air around him so he can keep his hydromancy (or an approximation of it.) As for gameplay, I think his gimmick would be switching between stances. Water Stance would be where his projectiles come from along with a gap closer that can combo into stance change, and Volt Stance would be for more harder hitting close-range fighting, and a couple combo ending launches. Maybe as a bit of balancing have Volt Stance be something the player uses sparingly, be it through a cooldown or it damaging the player overtime with an overload. I'm sure there's flaws in my ideas and this could make Hydro a garbage tier character for all I know, but I feel like flipping between stances weaving projectiles and rushdown combos could be fun.

Wasn't the very first iteration of Rain also a Lin Kuei Assassin before the whole Edenian Prince thing happened? Feels like the most sensible thing to do would be to merge Rain and Hydro into a single character, or at least a legacy.

I feel like we should keep them separate mainly because having a smaller cast means there are a lot of jobbers as well as a specific lack of characters dying. That was my big problem with MK1, basically everyone is heroic in the new era (even Noob kinda) so we’re missing a lot of baddies and the timeline nonsense is getting annoying. I hope whatever they do next involves them making definitive versions of everyone and going from there. Not all the characters who show up need to be playable but they definitely need to buff up both sides and the various factions to enhance the story.

More than that, a lot of one-off and/or 3D era characters have the capability to be a lot better and more interesting than they previously were, Li Mei is *actually* a person now. All it requires for characters to be more Kenshi then Mavado is for NRS to actually try.

Can I ask a genuine question to why? As I genuinely want to know why? As he was a spin-off character series that ig was told by the comic studio that they couldn’t have any of the main cast to be killed off, so they made Hydro to do so and since then till the live action legacy series stayed that way for spinoffs than an actual main game series.

The canon ninja are Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Noob Saibot, Smoke, Reptile, Ermac, Rain, Tremor, Chameleon, and Wu Lae as well as technically Takeda Takahashi, Forrest Fox, the Grandmaster, human Cyrax, human Sektor, and MK4 Reiko. The non-canon ones Hydro, Oniro, Komodai, Khrome, Phlox, etc.

They can introduce Hydro as Rain's unknown Half brother who unlike him he doesn't need magic to control Water. Since M1K is too vanilla having an unbalanced of villains. They can write Hydro joining Shao's Rebellion where he feels Outworld shouldn't bow down to EarthRealm & Liu Kang. Being a Powerful Watermancer he introduces himself to Rain & tells him instead of pleading for forgiveness to an unfit family of Royals he should strive for greatness instead of snarling at their feet where eventually he'll end up executed. Which will lead on to even Bi-Han & Kuai Liang working together & even settling their differences to fight side by side as brothers taking on threat to defend their Realm. It'll reintroduce Hydro in a new light where he has no origin in EarthRealm but in Outworld & where he's Rain's halfbrother & instead of being fodder he has a better role joining Shao's Rebellion for an Outworld that shouldn't be snarling at Liu Kang & EarthRealm's feet.

I also believe one of rain skin in mk11 is actually hydro inspired ,it didn't match his character , personality tbh it was definitely Japanese influence and the good actually matches hydro modifier look

I can see Hydro being a Rain's student. Yet, after his betrayal, hydro could take on new teachings from Scorpion/Kuai Liang. Learning how to fight with his hydromancy and unlocking electricity and temperature changing overtime.

Ngl Khrome and Floyd just sounds imo lame as they just a product of the times, but Hydro could come back but then we have Rain. I just don’t know who knows he could come into a mainstream game, as atm the story is getting a bit stale, nothing really new minus what Tremor in MKX or 11 I forgot as I stopped playing MK games after the 2011 reboot and played at least 4 hours of MKXL on my friends console but stopped after that.
