Excellent video-exactly what I needed before making the attempt to fix my Front Runner 500. My problem started when my secondary clutch wouldn’t come off even after removing everything you suggested. It lacks nearly a ½ inch to clear. So I decided what the heck I’m this far might as well loosen the inner cover and try working around it since it is flexible. Worked great right up until the part on the wet clutch jam nut wouldn’t pry up because it was hammered in to tight. When all else fails use force right?-wrong-now the jam nut is nearly striped and I quit before I start destroying things with a hammer. The video is still fantastic it’s just my jobs never go by the book.

How did he get the GM nut off? Does it take a special socket? I don't understand what he means about hitting the nut out of the groove.

The nut has a flat kind of collar on it. The collar is beaten into a groove on the crankshaft. Take an old flat blade screw driver and slowly work it under the collar. You can tap it under with a hammer, but don't just start beating away.

Do you happen to have a video of how this UTV was acting up which led to this repair? I have similar UTV that seems to be revving too high at lower speeds and takes a long time to get to full speed. Belt has been replaced and cleaned primary. It has less than 300 miles on it and less that 50hrs. Idk what kind of oil previous owner put in it and was thinking if he changed the oil he may have put regular oil and not the wet clutch safe oil in it? I would guess if regular motor oil was put in it , that it may cause some clutch issues. I wish I could describe it better but to me its just revving too high at take off and seems to "feel" like a weak coil pack on a car or truck....kinda in & out sounding and grabbing good.

Just done this wet clutch replacement and did as you said to put the wording facing inwards when installing in the bell housing. Checked it and spun counterclockwise by hand and not clockwise. My dad has a bennche 500 and his clutch engages right away and mine revs higher before it grabs and i can feel it engage slower than it should. After engagement it works fine and can reach near 50mph. Also previous owner used straight 30wt oil and i probably did not help as i am using Rotella 5w40 synthetic. Do you recommend soaking the clutch in oil before installing? Not sure about synthetic oil not being good as synthetic oil is simply a higher quality oil. I guess it makes sense it would need a lower quality oil. Machines are picky about fluids. I will NOT use synthetic on my new clutch.
@BoostedRide6 жыл бұрын
Yes soak the new clutch for an hour or so. If you soak it the time that you're taking it apart it should be long enough
@Hi-Tech-Ray6 жыл бұрын
How can this kind of damage to the clutch be prevented, if so?
@BoostedRide6 жыл бұрын
Biggest issue is driving in high range when you should be in low. 25mph or less (around the farm housework) roads use low. Let the motor rpm. Also people push the rated limits of load capacity. Hope this helps
@Hi-Tech-Ray6 жыл бұрын
So I guess many people make the biggest mistake by not reading their owner's manual as this information is detailed in there. Now from what I understand and if I am correct, about these UTVs is that the same engine oil also serves as transmission fluid and we should be diligent about changing the oil at recommended intervals. Would you recommend using a synthetic oil?
@BoostedRide6 жыл бұрын
Yes same oil used in the engine is in the transmission cavity. A lot of people around here do neglect oil changes. We run cam2 15w40 or rotella t 15 40. We do not run synthetic oils. Never seem to have much luck
@Hi-Tech-Ray6 жыл бұрын
Now You would think that synthetic oils would work better in this scenario as they claim that it exceeds oil viscosity! So I guess the rule of thumb here with UTVs is that synthetic oils is a BIG NO-NO!
@dougiequick16 жыл бұрын
This answer does not make sense ...I read and reread It is ambiguous/contadictory. Problem caused by "driving in high range when you should be in low" Okay THAT seems logical! But THEN it seems to be instructing when driving "25mph or LESS....use HIGH??" You meant "25mph or MORE use LOW" ...yes??? Being reckless with words can really do a lot of harm....not to mention frustration trying to understand
