A tip you missed is that after pressing Q, the 3-second timer for enhanced auto can be refreshed and paused when skarner uses E. So depends on the timing, skarner can engage while carrying the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd stage Q.

The thing with Skarner support is that it is very predictable, much like jungle Skarner, in terms of how it engages. Unlike Kayn, who can move freely in the wall Skarner is on a fixed and predictable path and if you are a champ with good CC, like most, then yeah Skarner support is a joke. However, if you are against something like Nami/Sona/Swain/etc, who either don't have strong CC or get it later, then you can bully them pretty well. I would say it's a niche pick but not an OP pick. Blitz, for example, will just pull you out of the wall and under his turret, Zyra easily matches your line dash with her line root, etc etc which completely shuts down Skarners hope to engage and make anything happen.

@@Kingofredeyes I cant see skarner significantly more predictable than any other. This type of support is like nautilus or leona, you know the stuns and their ranges, and if you have a minimum level you are always attentive to their mechanics, no more no less.

I did it blindly for the challenges and it worked. Not the best but very noticeable. I maxed q first and combine with the inspirations runes that give u mobility when slows. That damage, poke and resistance is insane. And remember that you're a tank with a RANGE ATTACK AOE on Q and a very big AOE damage with shield on W. And as the video says: the e is powerful when you máster the second range. I just q the minions to deal damage behind, then W to have a better trade that scales with the number of enemies. But the e and r were difficult to use at first so that was my fault. But yes, ironically the best damage aren't they're principal abilities but the abilities are so poorly descripted that when u see a skarner main, you cant win unless their entire team doesn't do any damage at all. I think is like swain when they released it at first. It's a support that carries beacuse deals damage and resists tons of damage. And with the countless cc, your allies can't fail any spell.

i don't think hail of blades is good specificaly on sup, and comet poke is much stronger. mostly because to get something out of HoB you need to engage onto enemy, and to do that you need to get yourself out of lane, witch is exp loss for every engage attempt(small but it adds up little by little). Also engage attempt is extreamly readable cuz you're slow when leaving lane and cant threaten to roam and same with Q pick ups and throws (they are pretty easy to react to and avoid. even with the buff). I prefer W max comet because its basically nami W, tool to win trades if you will. I also prefer ingenious hunter to ult, as i run locket and that one tear upgrade every one forgets (and realmspike sup upgrade if i get ahead)

Agree, and I think fully relying on your max range E on this champion is only viable vs braindead players. Any hard cc with a slight bit of range just ruins Skarner engage completely, and he doesn't have the saving grace that Nunu has with his snowball that keeps rolling

I thought the same, I think these runes are not bad but they are for a more aggressive play style. I play aggressively, but there is a limit, as you have to stay on your lane a bit to gain xp and it is true that against experienced players you can miss a lot of ganks. I like poke, although the Q consumes too much mana. Although on the other hand, the runes give an attack boost that no one expects and the zombie wards are very good... it is clear that it is for a support style that is Dedicate yourself entirely to patrolling the enemy jungle and hunting down unsuspecting players to a certain extent. What runes would you use?

Pta also has nasty damage on q3 although getting it off is alot more difficult Approach velocity is also good to stay on enemies as your q and w slow them Iceborn gauntlet is also good as it has sheen passive + another slow only downside is that it is pricey Abyssal mask is also good for lowering enemy MR for your team and expecially if u have an apc

I mean i only had good experience with him soo far. Flash exhuast max W arcane comet and his zoning is soo nice, especially with characters like jhin that can just root and set up a rock throw. Played it with a friend enemy couldnt lane LOL.

i played about 80 skarner supp games by now and i have to say: PLEASE MAX W FIRST! its so broken... the slow is just such high range and having a second e in an early game skirmish is often still not accomplished by having more points in e AND it ONLY deals dmg if u ram em into a wall, which is not always possible making u lose most of your burst!

Skarner sup I find to be really strong but heavily countered from any easy form of cc which means it depends on who enemy support is

So, fun fact that not many know, the Ult’s windup is immune to displacement, so you can’t be pulled, pushed, or knocked up while charging it. This means that someone like Blitz can’t move you away from their ADC once you start charging, or Vayne and Tristana can’t push you away.

I am pretty sure this doesn't work, as I got Lee sin kicked ( pulling him with me funnily enough) . Of course it could be just a millisecond time of deal with the kick and the end of my charge up R.

I still think comet is the way to go for people who are new to skarner support. Since comet makes you feel more like a malphite support having an undodgeable and AoE wide poke that deals just as much and is just as annoying as ashe support's poke. Except this time you're an engage tank and you widdle down their health until their ripe enough to be feasted on with your q. Since your Q throw also benefits from it. Turning you to both a lane bully and an engage support.

I played skarner support recently and we are against a jg talon so whenever Evelynn will do obj I'll just follow her and when talon jumps on a wall I just E him. it was good lol

Why would you play this instead of other tank supports like rell/alistar, they can do everything skarner does in support and do it easier and better?

Beacuse, rell/alistar = 0 dmg and only cc, but skarner have a lot of dmg and he can go through the walls?

I can hold people for a solid 5 seconds and still lose just cuz we do no damage. skarner can beat some booty

I literally playes skarner sup with hail of blades since he released. Im not good at the game or anything but him on sup is very powerfull even i could make good plays. The best part on him is yes he doesnt need the gold but if he gets some its not wasted like on some other supports. Since normaly if the adc is 8/0 the game is lost but more often then not its if sup is 8/0 it doesnt matter. Yes its harder but the 8 kills are kinda wasted. On skarner tho you become invincible with tank items. And since he can then go where he wants he can displace enemies into his team sometimes leading to making another teammate as fed

Nice guide, im destroying ranked with my skarner support. I have to try your rune build but, anyway, I want to ask you why you dont go more HP runes for skarner when you say that HP is just the best flat stat for skarner. Althought I understand that those more offensive runes are fine... I just have to try it, but the HP boost in runes is very tentative... Also, I understand why you say to max E first, but you lose a lot more early damage with Q, althought and just experimented that you run out of mana very fast if you try to poke with Q... If someone can help me with these questions, thanks

Update: I tried the build in the video. It's very bad, I'm sorry. It's not going well for skarner. Skarner needs runes that give him health and utility, such as speed. Maxing out Q is essential, the damage at the beginning is brutal. You contradict yourself in the video, pointing out these strong points, but then in your rune build to do the opposite, it makes no sense.

Actually skarner could pull people over walls before the rework. Baron and dragon walls are thin plus the thin walls in mid lane towards the river. If skarner has vision and the enemy is close enough skarner can ult over walls.

it's kinda work but not good enough, tbh. His E still unreliable af, it's still too easy to disrupt. Lane phase is somehow totally fine but during teamfight there always someone disrupt you, and it's totally unreliable to grab some assassin (and impossible for R anyway). If Skarner R can be canceled before max charge like Sion Q, it's would solve his many problem

I've been playing him for the past week, no, he's not a support, since his e can be stopped easily by cc. and has a high cd if you don't manage to wall stun. wich, with the existence of cleanse + rakan/alistar/thresh is easy to cancel, skarner also is very mana hungry and Q lvl 1-3 is 10s cd. well, counting on top the 5s cd refresh he gets from autoing it's more like, 4s CD early, wich makes it "good-ish" for trading into high hp melee characters, NOT ranged botlaners, what skarner wants during earlygame it's to constantly trade with W +Q abilities wich will fuckup the wave, setting up a free gank for the enemy jungler, + drain your mana pool, you , NEED to tp or ghost to lane earlygame. even with manaflow + tear. lvls 1-4 he works like malphite, he either goes all in, and enemy is dumb enough to trade with him getting skarner a kill at 0 mana, and 1 health left, or he drains his mana pool backs and tp's. he's a supporting toplaner, much like malph or ornn are, in the sense that their early cc is very conditional into non-MELEE so, idk, no, he's not a support. unless he gets E cdr refund BUFF, wich he doesn't need.

Imo Top Skarner is by far the best role for him. His kit I completely overturned with very high base numbers, which makes his landing phase unbeatable. The reason his win rate is so low is because people just don’t know how to abuse him yet.
