This is such an intelligent, professional review. I had nearly given up on bike rack reviews on KZbin because almost all of them had people who could barely form a coherent sentence, let alone make useful observations about the products they tried. One reason to remove the rack when not in use is for aerodynamics. EVs are more affected by add-ons like this, so leaving a bike rack on could reduce range by 10%. This doesn't matter for the most part, but long commutes or road trips may make that range matter more.

I have the Kuat rack. One of the many cool features I like about it, is that the arms will unfold all the way down to the ground which allows me to load my 48 pound Levo from the side. I also have the optional ramp, but I find it just as easy to lower the arm all the down, from the side lift the front wheel onto rail and then lift the rear to roll it on, then hit lever one handed to bring the arm back up. Easy peasey. I no longer have to kill my back loading one of the e-bikes, especially onto the inside rail.

I have the QuikR Stuff rack with the add on. While it took 5 months to get after ordering, it was well worth the wait. Absolutely love it. No wobble. Carries my wife’s & my Specialized eBikes with no issues. Rack goes on & off with ease (& no tools). Just be careful & follow the instructions for operation. I had to replace a lock barrel because I forgot to disengage the locking cylinder before installing. Completely my fault & was easily repaired. Replacement barrel only took a few days to receive. When I ride solo, I leave the add on at home. Makes for easy access & tilts up, out of the way for the hatch. We love the rack & highly recommend it.

FYI, the Quikr Stuff Mach 2 rack actually has a capacity of 120lbs per bike in the 2-bike configuration with 2" hitch. For this reason, I'm probably going to get one so I can haul my Surron X around, which happens to weigh around 100lbs w/out the battery.

@@x12ozx Nice. I'm just having a hard time pulling the trigger because of the price tho. I'm certain it's top-notch quality... but man, I can't get over that price tag. With the base, the add-on, and a ramp, it's like $1,600. Might just keep waiting til my Cybertruck fiiiinally arrives

I think of the Kuat as a bundle of gimmicks. The Kashima coating is not paired SKF seals or similar. It provides little or no benefit. The power cord sharply bends against the support beam when the rack closes, so it will likely fray and fail. Finally, it is rife with plastic parts and is manufactured in China, unlike the 1Up and Quikrstuff which are manufactured in the United States. Not that China is incapable of manufacturing good parts, but customers in the USA generally prefer to buy local when possible. The plastic parts absolutely will wear in the sun, become brittle, and break. The hydraulics are nice, but they do not, in my opinion, make up for the downsides or the price compared to the others.

How secure are bikes on these wheel-locking racks compared to racks that lock in the bike via frame hooks in terms of panic braking and bumpy roads? PS. worth knowing for outside the US customers: KUAT has some models that come with European ball hitch!
@nihongobenkyoshimasu3190 Жыл бұрын
Those racks add extra space on the rear of the car making parallele parking difficult when folded and not used. The great advantage of the QuikRStuff is that each bike carrier can be easilly removed and folded by one person, and both parts can fit inside your trunk. This is a great advantage if you only use your bikes on weekend and if you have to park your car in the street or in the public garage of your apartment.

Ordering on the QUKR Stuff is now only 6 weeks. However all of your weight information is wrong at least on the QUKR Stuff, according to their website: 2″ Mach2 1 bike - 120 lbs 2 bikes - 240 lbs 3 bikes - 300 lbs 4 bikes - 185 lbs The reason I mention it is I have a 70 lb e-bike and I've already had to return one rack because it wouldn't fit even though supposedly it should have fit. Meaning a lot of wrong information is being pumped around about all of these racks.

@@EMTBReview .. I have a Porsche Macan SUV so I ordered their $899 SKURRBIKE which by their specs should support my Mokwheel Obsidian but It was essentially hanging off both ends and the straps weren't long enough but I'm certain I could have purchased longer ones. However even then the mounting arms were garbage and I wouldn't trust him to hold a child's bike. I'm thinking about ordering this bike rack, and I've heard the pros and cons and I've seen the mistakes people do. Reading your comments, I hope that you found some more stability.

Great video’s bro. I am planning on investing in either the 1up super duty (single with add on or double, not sure yet) OR the quickrstuff mach 2 with the add on. For now all I have is a size large analog 29” mtb with plans of investing in an e-mtb for myself and possibly an e-mtb for my kid which will be a smaller tire size for now I believe. I plan on not leaving the rack on my vehicle but I also don’t want to worry about it being stolen if I do leave it on. Which one should I go with? Thanks in advance. ALSO! Do u know if quickrstuff is coming out with a new model anytime soon? Have you had any problems with the locks on the quickrstuff?

I don't mind using a ratchet to remove the hitch mounting bolt. I have an older yakima that's held on that way and I can install or remove it in about a minute. I just keep a dedicated ratchet near my garage door. Unless I know I'm going to ride the next day, I like removing it because then my blind spot monitors and adaptive cruise works. And then there's obviously easier tailgate access, not to mention it's easier to fit in the garage/walk around it. Do all hitch mounted tray racks have sway? I figured the 1up or more expensive racks would be better, but it's more than I'd expect. My Yakima does that as well and I hate it - the bike seems solid but I had it fall off once (fortunately at low speeds in my neighborhood) so I'm always paranoid. I drive over bumps at grandma speed.
@shanedawg5856 Жыл бұрын
Hey Francis, thanks for the in depth demos and reviews. I'm interested in seeing if these racks will be in the way of a tailgate opening. Can you test on the Tacoma and see if the tailgate will hit the racks? On my Ram 1500 my tailgate hits the 1UpUSA SuperDuty. I have to use a hitch extension.

All new mtb have 800mm handlebars and i can't mount two of them without the one of the handlebars hitting my rear glass on my camper shell. 800mm was too long so i did cut them down to 760mm. Its still too close for comfort. Any solutions to this other than a hitch extender? I need to fit my rack in my garage and with an extender it wont fit. It also makes my truck super long.

How about a safe way to lock bikes on hitch mout bike rack? Recently had $10,000 worth of bikes stolen off a thule T2 pro hitch mount bike rack using their tiny cable lock that was part of the bike rack. It happened when traveling on the back of our car when stopped to do a thirty min hike where no bikes were allowed. Been thinking some way to rig up two beefy chain locks like Hiplok, kryptonite ect. I know no system is perfect. Just want to be able to leave them on the car for a few hours say at national park parking lot or the like. Bikes won't fit in the car with all our camping gear. Any ideas would be super helpful! Thank you in advance!
@ralphkeith2905 Жыл бұрын
One of the mountain bike magazines did an article on securing bikes years ago. They found the plastic covered cable locks defeated grinders (the plastic melts and fouls the grinder) and heavy-duty chain defeated bolt cutters. If I'm away from my bike for more than a few minutes, I use both and a bike cover. I swear that bike cover is like an invisibility cloak. Upgrade your cable lock to something that's around an inch thick. My chain is the ABUS Hardened Steel 8KS 10 Foot x 5/16" Thick Square Security Chain. If you want to go the extra mile, throw a couple of the smaller ABUS chain locks around the rear wheel. I travel a lot for work and like to bring my bike with me.

For the Saris rack, it is modular, so you might as well just take the bike trays off one by one to reduce the weight. Easier to store in multiple places in the garage that way too. I have a 2021 Bronco with has the extra on the tailgate. Any advice on whether any of these racks are better for my situation?

Never mentions the biggest advantage of the quicker Mach 2 rack is the fact that it folds in half and can be stored in the hatchback or bed of your truck or car!

Great review, Francis! I don't even own a QuikR Stuff rack (yet) but I've been saying it is the best tray rack system available since they first launched. This comparison seems to confirm my impressions. Price and wait times are definitely a hard pill to swallow but it is a rack that will last a lifetime. The only real issue for me is that I often am carrying more than 4 bikes, so I'll keep using my Velocirax (which I love). Cheers!

I was very nervous putting my brand new beach cruiser on this rack. kzbin.infoUgkxG6JIgwJhur8_Rg8UeQ3EmePzi_wSncL8 But after reading many reviews I decided to get this one and take a chance. When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...
