Hitchhiking from Tijuana to the North Pole: Thumbs Up Season 2 (Part 1/4)

David and Harry begin their second great trek, starting from Tijuana and plotting a course up the West Coast, through Canada, and to the North Pole.
In this episode, the Koreans Gone Bad come down from their testosterone high and arrive at David's folks's house in Koreatown. After one last homecooked meal, the boys gear up for their trip north and catch a ride out of town.

I actually love the combo of super real mixed with exaggerations and falsehoods. It is continuing an American tradition of tall tales and wandering, traveling, and moving onwards. I can't say what was accurate or not, but I've done enough similar travel myself to say they got the essence right, even if some of the exact details are skewed.

Their hitchhiking is real, I believe that unshakably, David and Harry do not strike me as disingenuous. Some of the clips are OF COURSE acted out, they are supposed to be entertaining and amusing filler, if you really believe that they, taking testosterone and crossing the border illegally into the US was an attempt to trick you into thinking they actually did it, you probably have low intelligence.

They have 3 people (family one dedicated film) but both of them have small cameras. Vice has a back up vehicle follow them everywhere. Vice does not get involved in there illegal activates (such as train hopping) which is some states is a min of 2 years in jail. When they do something illegal they try and cut it ever since they almost went to jail when they filmed them jumping on a train to get to LA. But the Vice 'safety' crew and his 3rd unknown family member usually bail on illegal activities and go to the small production crew vehicle. 16:40 notice the film cut before he cuts the dead bolt off the fence? Cutting a lock is a crime they cut it from the video.,

@@jbizzy71 It's because they are not actually doing those things.. A lot of it is staged and for some of it permission is asked ahead of time. I don't know this to be fact but I know how producers handle reality shows and it is far easier, safer and more hassle free to use actors as the people stopping to offer rides. That way they do not really have to wait on the side of the road for hours and hours and hours each day and they do not have to worry that the drivers are going to be uninteresting people or that when someone finally stops, they are not going in the same direction. For all of the things you can imagine being an issue, as a producer the answer is to stage it.
