I had to drive my wife at the last minute from Nottingham to Swanley just to hand some documents to a solicitor. We'd just finished watching Dr Foster a week before and eere planning on staying somewhere near Swanley for the night. I was delighted to see that Hitchin was only an hours back in the direction of Nottingham and only added 10 minutes to the journey. I didn't tell my wife it was the town from Dr Foster until we arrived. We both absolutely adored our 20 hours in Hitchin. It's a magical town indeed.

I well remember the cattle market the older one with cows etc in the 60s and the later one over the road which sold rabbits amongst other small animals !

I remember a little shop next to Superdrug called Wades. I think it sold car parts. It used to have a small bronze horse on the ridge tiles until someone stole it.

There's supposed to be a second horse in the N Herts Museum, but I've never seen it.

@@SamHallas1949 I thought the one in the museum was the one from the roof. didn't know there were 2 of them. I remember the one on the roof being there late 80s early 90s. them saw the museum one in the 2000s.

@@klisher I'm relying on Rev Bob Tebbut's commentary in my 'Sleepy Hollow film - cue No 23. "Keeping watch ever the Farmers & Dealers as the cattle changed hands was the man on horseback on the ridge tile of the Brotherhood Hall. Have you ever seen him? It is one of a pair of tiles which were fixed each end of the building, The other one is in the Hitchin Museum."

Yes I remember it too although a bit further up think it was the last shop where Lloyds Bank now stands...husband n wife ran it...was always very expensive 😂😂

I was born here and grew up on Bankroft in 1972 where my family had a hairdressers Andre of Mayfair
