@Crystalmdn1 I feel like the cartel is something you shouldn’t be worried that much as a tourist rather like other gangs because like other gangs are more worse than the cartel because the cartel has like families working there like I have heard stories where people Rob you in but the cartel helps the tours out because the cartel have people families that work with tourist buy stuff

On a weekend trip to Mexico (Im from Texas), I had a friend who went to the bathroom in a bar and never returned. We hoped against all hope that he ditched us for a girl and would reappear in the morning. We had to call his parents from our Mexican hotel and tell them their son had disappeared. There is no ending to this story- he literally just vanished. No resolution for the family or anyone. Its haunted me for years.

If anyone is watching this for travel advice, DON'T. Lost a childhood friend a couple of years back. He was murdered by a member of the Sinaloa Cartel while visiting a village near Urique, apparently because his Spanish was too good and they thought he was possibly DEA. He was a Spanish teacher at a school in our home town.

The “highjacking” of entry point was actually civilians protesting the charging to use public highways. This happens a lot and has nothing to do with cartels. Simply just civilians fed up with paying for the road. Usually they dont charge, and everyone knows to pass by for free. I assume thats why you got honked at since you were holding up the free line. Since you asked “how much”, i am guessing the civilian said why bit score some beer money.

Hey Bald! I absolutely love your content and have been following you for a while. Be careful in Sinaloa as it’s definitely one of the more dangerous regions of the world you’ve visited. I’ve been in and around the Mazatlan area, but definitely wasn’t as adventurous as you are going to the rural parts of the state. Regardless, it’s beautiful out there and I can’t wait to go back. Hope everything goes well! 🙏🏻

I think he might have missed the point of all the warnings. It's not anarchy. The locals are just normal people and can generally live their lives as long as they don't get in the way and do/pay as they're told. No, the danger is to you - the tourist. As others have pointed out, you're just one random cartel roadblock away from losing everything.

You’re not wrong, but “99% of people are just normal people” might be a bit generous. The cartels cast a wide net. Many “normal” people work for them in one form or another. Sure not everyone is a sicario hitter, but still.

Well yeah, when the cartel now owns legitimate businesses it's impossible to NOT be associated with them in one way or another. For all we know, a lot of Mexican factories are owned by the cartels, and the people all the way at the bottom wouldn't know that they're working for the cartel (indirectly so to speak).
