Did you mention the drug offences for Zambrano? Why we went ahead and got a player being investigated in South America for doping was another highlight. Feels so reminiscent of Birmingham City's managerial stupidity last year. it's unreal. I can't my head round the Acun adulation. His fans meetings, in the summer were insane. and the weird group of fans who suddenly regurgitated the old Allam line "it's his club, he can do what he likes" was mindboggling, What was the point of the all the Anti Allam protests if we just gave the next chairman carte blanche to do what ever they want?

Let me tell you my insiders for this Alfie, you can trust me because I am a Turkish football fan and have a lot knowledge of Acun Ilıcalı. This will be a really long comment so bear with me guys: Acun Ilıcalı is a Fenerbahçe fan for life which he also now works as sort of a Director of Football. Probably this is why he doesn't give two sh1ts about your club- stated because he only cares about Fenerbahçe at the moment. Acun is likely never have any sort of vision for being a Director of Football. He is a disgustingly wealthy man throughout his time with TV8 and shows like Masterchef Türkiye and Survivor Türkiye as well. Ironically, the way he got his money was actually associated with FETÖ(A terr0rism and political Islam group led by Fethullah Gulen-who died last month) but he(Ilıcalı) claimed to be a guy that was againist it. When I said he has no vision, well uh... I wasn't even particularly exaggerating at all. He sacked your club's manager in 2022(I don't remember his name but I did hear him doing a solid job) and replaced him with Shota Arveladze FFS. Shota tried himself managing Trabzonspor and failed, and the signings they made were utterly atrocious. Allahyar Sayyadmanesh(🇮🇷) and Ozan Tufan(🇹🇷) were players who Fenerbahçe tried to get rid of so, he didn't really help you at this situation. I think the only thing that he tries to do, is giving Süper Lig and Turkish football players some chances that they'll never get at all probably. If this is the case, then please don't expect anything amazing from his work. Well, if he somehow manages to find out how to manage a club in UK-which I really don't think he will- maybe we can see the Tigers back in the Premier League If you have read this comment so far, thank you and cheers. Love from Türkiye 😊🧡🖤 #COYT

Middlesbrough fan here. Lot sof sympathy for Hull's predicament. Last January, from the outside looking in, looked like a ridiculous lapse in judgement. As you say, it was an absolutely insane time to attempt a promotion push, in a season where the division functionally had three Premier League teams in it and an Ipswich side that Hull had no realistic chance to overtake. The way it tanked Hull's PSR manoevurability was blatantly obvious for all to see, and the deals were mostly ones that didn't make sense for where the club was at. Seeing Greaves and Philogene go in the summer and the money unable to be meaningfully reinvested certainly made me, among many others, write Hull off in terms of viability as promotion candidates for this season - probably mid-table at best. But I don't think most people from outside the division thought the drop-off would be this extreme. Seeing the up-tick in Boro since we got competent football people in at the top has been joyous, and I hope Hull get there too but I have no idea how it's happening.
@stepheng8779Ай бұрын
It's because he's an idiot trying to buy his way up when it wasn't even there to buy. All we needed in January was a striker, we still haven't got one 🤦 Be like if Boro had panicked last season and sacked Carrick at the start, stupid.

The failure of Hull City lies in the fact that the club president, Acun Ilicali, is also acting as the sporting director for Fenerbahce Istanbul. At the moment, Fenerbahce’s arch-rival, Galatasaray, is achieving incredible success in the Europa League and the Turkish Super League. Instead of addressing Fenerbahce’s own failures, Acun constantly brings up this so-called “system” in Turkish football, which he claims favors Galatasaray. This is nothing but an attempt to sweep Fenerbahce’s shortcomings under the rug and discredit Galatasaray’s success. For instance, in the Europa League-where European referees, not corrupt Turkish ones, are in charge-Galatasaray currently holds fourth place. Meanwhile, Fenerbahce sits in 15th place, far behind in the competition. Acun was once and is a very popular figure in Turkey. His media programs, such as Survivor, consistently achieved high ratings. However, since becoming the sporting director of Fenerbahce, he has undergone a significant change in both character and behavior. Many people in Turkey now harbor resentment toward him because of how negatively he has changed. Some of you might call this his “downfall,” but I call it divine justice. Neither Fenerbahce nor Hull City is able to celebrate success under his leadership because Acun has been acting dishonestly for Fenerbahce in his own country. Although Galatasaray currently holds first place in the league and Fenerbahce trails by just three points in second place, Galatasaray remains one of the only teams openly calling for the resignation of both the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and the Referee Association. A particularly troubling pattern has emerged, shedding light on the issues within Turkish football. In the only two matches where Galatasaray dropped points, the same referee, Oğuzhan Çakır, was appointed twice. Through research conducted by Galatasaray’s fanbase, it was discovered that Oğuzhan Çakır had previously posted anti-Galatasaray content and pro-Fenerbahce content on Facebook. In the two home matches he officiated for Galatasaray, the team experienced shocking results: a 3-0 lead turned into a 3-3 draw in one game and a 2-1 lead became a 2-2 draw in another. During these games, Çakır allowed highly questionable penalties against Galatasaray, ignored clear fouls in the lead-up to goals conceded by Galatasaray, and even failed to involve VAR for obvious penalty situations in Galatasaray’s favor. This is the same referee who, after his poor officiating in Galatasaray’s match against Kasımpaşa, was criticized by Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk, who stated, “If you’re going to officiate like this, you shouldn’t officiate here again.” Shortly after, the TFF president, İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu, responded cryptically, antagonizing saying, “We will see where he officiates next.” Just weeks later, Oğuzhan Çakır was once again assigned to a Galatasaray match, where he continued his controversial officiating. Between these matches, he also officiated the game between Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor, where Fenerbahce was awarded shocking penalties that, by UEFA standards, would not have been given anywhere in Europe. This game has gone down as one of the most corrupt in Turkish football history. In response, the Trabzonspor president publicly stated that the TFF and Referee Association had humiliated themselves and declared that such egregious behavior would no longer be tolerated. It is precisely through such refereeing decisions that efforts are being made to slow down Galatasaray’s momentum while keeping Fenerbahce in the title race. These manipulations highlight the systemic issues in Turkish football and the urgent need for reforms.

@ Yes, it must be. But there is a problem. The current president of the Turkish Football Federation, İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu, was the club president of Trabzonspor during the 2010-2011 season. That season, Fenerbahçe Istanbul became the champion, while Trabzonspor finished second. Both teams had 82 points, but Trabzonspor was worse in the head-to-head comparison. Shortly after the season, allegations of match-fixing against Fenerbahçe came to light. When this scandal surfaced, İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu stated, “Either I will get this trophy, or this trophy will get me.” So, even back then, he made bold statements against Fenerbahçe. Furthermore, in an interview, he referred to Ali Koç as a “rich brat” and spoke about him in a derogatory manner. Now that he has become the federation president, he carries a debt of gratitude to maintain a favorable image among Fenerbahçe fans. As a result, he allows many referee decisions to favor Fenerbahçe and deliberately mistreats their rivals, such as Galatasaray and Trabzonspor. This is why this incident will likely never be properly presented to FIFA in the future.

@@oriental4323 wow too much conflict of interest is going on, my friend, but it is the same in my country football also. I'm from Jamaica 🇯🇲 ,too much politics and corruption, every world cup campaign the heads of our football both locally and international square off for power. The one's that run our football they don't have any vision or ideas to take Jamaica 🇯🇲 football to the next level. All of the personals who govern our football just want power that all . Most of (jff) Jamaica football federation members are affiliated with a Jamaica football club, it's a joke my friend here also it's sad

@ I’m deeply sorry to hear about the struggles in Jamaican football. It’s disheartening when the sport we love becomes a battleground for politics and power rather than a platform for growth and inspiration. However, there’s always hope for change, and with the right approach, progress can be achieved. Grassroots development is key. Investing in young talent and creating opportunities at the community level can build a strong foundation for the future, independent of current leadership issues. Fans also have an important role-when united, their voice can demand accountability and transparency from the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF). Strengthening local clubs is another step. Ethical and transparent management at this level could set new standards that might influence the broader system. Collaborating with international football organizations or development programs could also bring fresh perspectives and resources to overcome some of the local challenges. Finally, change often requires courageous leaders within the system who prioritize the future of Jamaican football over personal gain. It’s not easy, but with the immense talent and passion in your country, I truly believe that Jamaican football can overcome these struggles and achieve great things. Stay hopeful, my friend, and continue pushing for what’s right. My brother 🇯🇲🇹🇷

I am a NK Maribor supporter and soon after the takeover he's done exactly the same thing. Brought in loads of players that we (probably) cannot afford and immediately sacked a manager who was doing great in the league and is widely considered a club legend - both as a player and a manager. The paralles with Rosenior you described are chilling.

Thinking that Acun Illicali cares about your team is wishfull thinking. He is there to use Maribor NK. He has found something that is worth more than money to him and he will abuse that when the time is ripe. Acun brings chaos to where he arrives, so yeah thats that.
