Sorry, We Need To Talk About The Ballon d'Or

Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri has won the 2024 Ballon d'Or ahead of Real Madrid and Brazil winger Vinicius Junior, and in response, the world of football has lost its mind.
Real Madrid boycotted the ceremony in Paris, accusing the Ballon d'Or and UEFA of showing them a lack of respect, stealing the limelight from Rodri's big moment.

He somehow won player of the tournament at the EUROS despite Spain playing better without him, and he oversaw a pretty poor season for City. Why wouldn't they? i It would not be surprising if it turned out they payed for votes, given the financial incentive for winning. It seems to me Madrid had payed for a massive campaign, thought they had guaranteed themselves the awards, and got a shock. People will seriously argue that Benzema is a better striker than Lewandowski just because he won the Ballon d'Or, or that Aguero isn’t a legend since he never won the Champions League or an international trophy. As a Chelsea fan, it’s frustrating to hear people dismiss Hazard, saying he “was only good for a couple of seasons” or that his prime was short when he was the best or top 3 players in the Prem for 6 out of 7 seasons. Or that he didn’t win anything with Belgium or succeed at Madrid. But when it comes to Kaka, who had an even shorter prime and struggled at Madrid due to injuries, people will still call him a legend just because he won a Ballon d'Or. He had a great euro’s tournament, but his 2023/24 season with barcelona was Below Average. I think Barca and Real along with their fans really made the award toxic. Both teams have accumulated great PR in Europe with their stars in Messi and Ronaldo so it seems both, especially Real and Ronaldo fans couldn't stand the thought they didn't win it. Also good point on Alonso with Leverkusen. Wonder why Real and Ronaldo fans didn't say that was robbery. 🤔🤔

Since journalists, managers and players vote on who wins, I can only assume that Real Madrid will simply disband their football squad, as they "don't go where they are not respected". As a Barca fan, I can only condone that decision.
