The issue I have with giving Bellingham the Ballon d’Or, is that after scoring 17 goals in all comps by December 17th, for whatever reason, be it tactical, fatigue, whatever, he only scored 6 goals the rest of the campaign (not including MW38). I’m just not sure that what he did is worthy of a Ballon d’Or, even if England win the Euros, I think Kane is much more likely to win it than Bellingham. If Vinicius balls out at the Copa America, I could definitely see him winning it, but the amount of goals Kane scored this year may be too alluring for the voters to ignore, if England and Brazil win their tournaments

Did it occour to you that perhaps he was positioned that way deliberatly? Once people cottoned on to the fact he was lethal he became man marked, so he had a new role - open up space for Vini and rodrego. And he did - flawlessly. I think there is a case for England playing 3 at the back with a pair of wing backs. While Pickford is a good goalkeeper, far better than some of the players we have had going into previous Euros, he isn't world class. And there's serious concerns over the back four. Either we're starting someone out of position, or out of form. You could essentially play all of Trippier, Walker and Arnold. It would arguably suit Mitchell a bit more playing LWB. The most obvious down side here is you would have to sacrifice someone from either midfield or further forward. But given England's potential for defensive fragility, I think there's a non-zero chance of Southgate resorting to it in the more difficult games.
@mcsqueeb1874 ай бұрын
I agree, I don't see any way you're going to play Arnold without having Walker behind him. It would be a way to get Palmer in as an inside forward at the expense of Saka, with AA providing the width. It'd be a big system change though and Southgate loves Saka so I can't see it happening.

Clear the grp stages comfortably, get lucky with a weaker team in the quarters and get eliminated in the semis vs a good team.. The problem is not the players, but Southgate.. he just can't tactically adapt to game situations.. so often we have seen us struggling against tough defences.. Southgate to England is what Solskjaer was to Man United.. a good man manager, who satisfies the bare minimum as a coach, has his favourites in his team who get picked regardless of form, and is tactically out of depth, relying on counter attacks and moments of individual brilliance..

Eze should go ahead of Gordon because he covers more positions and I feel he has more elite level quality than a one-dimensional winger. Gordon poor performance against Brazil showed he isn’t ready. Eze has more quality and potential and that is why Man City and Arsenal want him.

In my opinion playing Bellingham as a 10 with Harry Kane as a striker would be a terrible idea. He's only playing in that position because Madrid don't have a proper striker and once Mbappe signs for them, he'll eventually move back deeper into midfield You don't need Bellinghams goals when you have the best striker on the planet in your team. Play Rice as a 6, Bellingham as an 8 and Foden as a 10. You could even push Trent into midfield alongside Rice and use 3 centre backs but Southgate would never let that happen

I've read comments from guys from South America and realized how spoiled we are here in Europe. South America constantly has some of the best players in the world but they always leave for the Big Five (Europe). Here in Europe you either have a high likelihood of your players staying in your country, or if you from one of the smaller countries; I'm from Switzerland; you're kind of proud when your players makes it to the big leagues, and they're still kind of around, since all the big games are shown on TV somewhere, and the best get to play each other in the Champions League, UEFA Cup etc. It's the same with Basketball and Ice Hockey over here, the real good players all leave for the NBA and NHL. Switzerland always has to hope their best Ice Hockey players team's don't make it far in the NHL play-offs, so the players can join the National Team for the World Championship.

Stones and Branthwaite are the ideal partnership. Both good on the ball, both big, defend on the front foot but can happily do body on the line defending when needed. Branthwaite is genuinely left footed which will bring balance. Guy was one of the best statistical defenders in the league all season. Is 6’5 and already has a good relationship with Pickford. Southgate would never though.

love you mate. sometimes I feel in an international tournaments context, Turkey is like a smaller sample of England; we also always go to tournaments with the ''arguably the best generation of the country so far'', we also always have heated debates about who should make the squad and who should not for like a whole year before tournaments, we also always get very unexpected defeats and hold on to extremely unlikely chances to proceed etc. etc. On paper everything seems to favor us but when it comes to reality it's always ''oh to get out of the group as the second team we have to draw it with Poland and France has to beat Bosnia and Hungary has to concede against the Netherlands and Germany has to fart at home ground and a meteor should hit Suriname and Lithuania has to drown under floods... and it goes on and on.'' In Euro 2024 Turkey seems the second favorite of the group after Portugal, and some even say Turkey can also beat Portugal, but I'm expecting a result similar to the one you predicted for England at the beginning of the vid and I just don't get my hopes high anymore lmao.

I mostly agree with your XI, although I'm not sure about left back but then again there's no obvious solution. But I wouldn't play Gallagher in midfield, nor would I Mainoo or Wharton. I would put TAA without a doubt. He would create a great duo of midfielders with Rice, very complementary. I think he's the best solution. But the amount of great players England have at every position except center back, left back and goalkeeper is astonishing. I don't support England as I'm french, but I must say you guys have quite the squad, and I think you're the number 1 favourite ahead of Portugal and we are 3rd. It's a shame for Maddison and Sterling. They're fantastic players, but there's so much competition in advanced midfield and wingers, it's really difficult to choose. Palmer had a sensational season and was arguably among the top5 players in EPL this season, and yet he won't start. Though I wouldn't be shocked if he started instead of Saka, he's been better recently. But a manager has to keep stability.

Why would Southgate move Foden to accommodate Bellingham and Saka? Foden should be the priority, he should play whenever he performs best and then fill the other positions. Foden is the best player of them all.
@ecaeas44394 ай бұрын
No he isn't. He's had a very good season and should absolutely be starting, but saka and bellingham have both also had immense seasons too. Just because city have won the league, doesn't mean foden should overshadow two of England's World class talents who bring things to the table that foden doesn't. If we need a goalscorer, we've got kane. If we need chance creation and pace down the wing, we've got saka. If we need a player who can play in a number of positions, whether in midfield, or up front, and mastermind attacks, bellingham is there. Foden has scored plenty of goals, rightly deserves to be PL player of season and can definitely play a crucial role for England, but I don't think he takes precedence over Saka / bellingham given that they all bring different attributes useful in different situations.
@scottmcnaughton5394 ай бұрын
I love the optimism, but France are so clearly the most elite squad it's almost insulting to suggest the English are comparable. No doubt this is the best English squad in a while but that doesn't mean they are close to the French.
@hugolouessard39144 ай бұрын
I'm french and I disagree. We have many great center backs, but almost all of them except Saliba are in bad form. At right back we only have Koundé and he's not at his best either. We still rely on Giroud as a striker, and even though he's a legend, he's old, slow and doesn't score as much as he used to. And finally, beyond Camavinga and Tchouaméni, our midfield is made of good but not great players. Except if you count Griezmann as midfielder, which he kind of is. But it's true that Griezmann and Mbappé are so good that it completely changes a team. But you have Kane, Foden, Bellingham, Saka and Palmer who all scored a ton of goals this season.
