Many years ago, I had an American friend who was a physicist, I went to see him one day, he was watching the film "Bridge at Remaggen, he told me that when his leave was over, he was sent to that bridge in order to take it, he said that he was given a rifle and he spent 4 years gripping that rifle in sheer terror. That, in my humble opinion, was a bloody hero, he was terrified, but he didn't run away.

Having an art exibition inside a bunker is certainly different, and weirdly strange. I agree with you my friend, there is a time and place for these,and bunker is not one of them. Once again, another interesting German WW2 defensive position. Thanks for spoting that photo EE and taking your Dad and us along. It was a shame the L49 was blocked off. It looked like they had the Regelbau 411 staged as a haunted bunker. I also feel it is disrespectful as soldiers lost their lives around there. The other 411 with the outside shooting position was intriguing. Interesting history behind the Regelbau 409 with anti aircraft guns. You do wonder if they also shot down more than a Lancaster & Mosquito, and it just wasn't documented. It was a shame that the 409 with the crew quarters was flooded. He got to go back to Germany and live with his mom's family for 3 years and went to school he was taught from his toddler days up to learn how to speak German....his mom, my wife and his gand parents deeply engaged in teaching him his culture... my son spoke the world of Germany, he said the people are so nice and respectful....he wants to literally wants to move and live there...he's got dual citizenship so it's possible, I met his mom when I was doing my enlistment in they army diesel mechanics. You said one of the bunkers had been removed in the past, possibly using old bunkers as non destructive art installations is a good thing, as it encourages people to visit them, and thus learn about them as well as provide funds for their upkeep . Of course whether one likes the art is another thing. That installation reminded me of an account I read a while ago by a German soldier during D-day who was in a bunker on the Atlantic wall that was attacked using white phosphorus, the look of that plastic reminded me of his description of the burning white phosphorus climbing up the walls inside the bunker and dripping from the roof onto this friends, engulfing them. He was the only survivor as he was by the door so was able to get out. The descriptions of his friends as screaming dancing pillars of flame that burned till just the bones were left was truly horrifying.

Such a shame that those bunkers were sealed up and that other one was flooded. Even though there were those stupid art exhibits in those other bunkers it meant that they were open for the public to go in. Great find Eagle Eyes. So glad the two of you are taking us along on the trips!

A beautiful location. Said that some of the bunkers are closed off. Very strange to see the plastic hanging down from the ceiling in the bunker. If it was display of something, someone should have been there to explain it. Depending on the time of year, will the flooded bunkers empty low enough to enter. Love this location. The immersive art you encountered here is quite different to the immersive experience you will find in some of the unused tube platforms on the London Underground that were used as bomb shelters during the blitz.

Hi hh and egaleeyes if you cant get into some of the bunkers due to flooding couldn t you take a smersiable pump and fewpipes with solar panel then you could set it up and let pump out the water while you exploring near to it until the pump taking out alot of water then you may be able to explore the bunker .another interesting video

Thank you Eagle Eyes, for finding such a fascinating location. It is really obvious that the Germans put great importance in protecting this bridge, and the surrounding area. I'm not sure what that art installation was supposed to represent, perhaps ghosts, or memories, from the past. Definitely not my cup of tea. But, at least, it shows the bunkers will be monitored, and probably policed, against being vandalised with graffiti. I do like the fact they've made it so the public can climb up to the gun position on that last bunker. That's a really nice touch. Maybe the plastic stuff is supposed to represent the ghosts of those who served there? Just a thought. Modern "art" can be pretty weird though lol. Props to EE for researching this site! As for moving the "teeth" the guy is giving you. Rent the requisite frame and chain hoist, and borrow a trailer. This would be easy in the US, but I know countries vary on their laws. That would be a cool yard decoration!

I'm totally surprised that they left those bunkers intact. That one with the "plastic wrap" hanging, oh my gravy, how disturbing. I have a quest for you. I'm sorry I can not afford to be a patrion? Yet at the end of said quest your reward should still be awaiting you. I am sure EAGLE EYE and YOURSELF ARE UP TO THIS TASK. My Uncle Oscar Scott served with the 106th GOLDEN LIONS and was wounded in the battle of bulge. In the book A BLOOD DIMMED TIDE somewhere about page 173 I think? Is a story of quite a fortune stashed in an ammo can covered in grease and buried next to a tree next to a bunker somewhere around STAVELOT I believe. There are better details in the book but my copy fell apart from reading. With a little research and EAGLE EYE AND YOURSELF on the trail you cannot fail. To be fair the treaty of Versailles was very unfair to Germany. Just may be if it was more lenient like the Marshal Plan, just may be a Hitler may not have existed. Keep in mind that prior to WW1 many European countries were invading each other - England, France, Russia and the US.

These should have been made into War Memorials of the Soldiers, Regiment, Officers that Died, both those who defended this bridge and those that came as liberators. Should be kept free of such crap as just seen. Sad really.
