The real victim in all of this nonsense is Andrew Garfield. Imagine being a huge Spider-Man fan, learning to act (and getting recognition) and finally getting the role of Spiderman. Everything is going so well. Even the director is great. Then, the movie turns out mediocre to decent. A lot of people hate it, a lot of people hate you but you get fans, too. You hoped for an amazing spider man movie but it didn't turn out as amazing as the Sam Raimi movies. "Maybe the next one will be better," you say to yourself. But it doesn't turn out great, it isn't even mediocre. It is bad. Now, people hate you. Everyone hates the movie and everyone hates you. You get the title of the worst Spiderman. You immediately get kicked and everyone celebrates. Now, a lot of people know you as that one bad Spiderman in that cash grab wannabe Spiderman Cinematic Universe. To be fair, Andrew is regarded as one of the best Spider-Man actors, even if his movies were a bit lacking. You don't really see people attacking him as much as the movie. And the few that do are pretty much idiots anyway. Especially when he is IN the suit I can't recall anyone that does it better. Not Tom, not Tobey, no one. He, in my eyes, is the only one that feels like he got the mannerisms, quips and general attitude of the wall-crawler down. (Which does not mean the other 2 don't do well in the suit either, just that I find their Peter Parker more convincing than their Spider-Man if you catch my drift)

Garfield and Stone were genius casting choices. It's a shame that Sony let them down by hiring poor writers and strong-arming Marc Webb too much. Ben Affleck in BvS was great. His protrayal of Bruce Wayne has that darker more serious depressed Batman which I really liked. He is who he is because of his childhood trauma. Having to watch his parents die right in front of him shaped him to become how he was. There's one particular scene I loved where Bruce and Alfred were talking about the legacy of the Waynes. Alfred said "You know you can't win this. It's suicide". Bruce acknowledged this but he just replied with "I'm older now than my father ever was. This may be the only thing I do that matters". To me, it's almost as if deep down in him he wanted to die at that point. He just wasn't conscious of it. He made himself believe that Superman is bad so that he could have a reason to fight him. But when the fight actually happens Superman held back and didn't want to kill him. When Superman brought up Martha it reminded him of the night that made him who he was. He realised that he could help save someone's (Superman) mother so that he don't have to endure the same pain Bruce endured while also in a way he could also have a chance to save his own mother so that he could be free from his childhood trauma that plagued him his whole life.

In the comics, he was an asshole bully, but would at times showcase his natural leadership whenever his school would be attacked by supervillains looking for Spider-Man. Spider-Man’s example also led him to become a war hero later on in life. What I see in this Flash is someone who could end up like that. I see a kid who lost someone close to him, and used aggression to cope with it to make himself feel better, but isn’t above becoming better. He’s definitely on a different trajectory by the end of the movie, and seems like he’s more at peace with himself.

I grew up with the Raimi films (and Evil Dead/Army of Darkness are some of my favourite films ever, with Ash being one of my favourite characters); but the moment i saw Garfield with that costume i knew he Was Spider-Man. The Raimi ones are great comic golden age films being campy and fun to watch; but TASM was what i wanted from a live action Spider-man film, it had some mistakes (not a huge fan of the villain, but the actor was great and seeing the deleted scenes he would have been a greatly developed villain before all the cuts; also hate how they didn't use the Great Power quote, because of trying to make it "different"...it's something basic and elemental of the character, no one would complain about hearing it...the MCU also makes this stupid mistake). But as a whole it felt more like a Spider-man i could truly admire and look up to during my teenage years/early adulthood. I still believe the best Spider-man is the one from the PS4 game (and i actually think the only actor who would fit that role in a live action adaptation is Garfield lol), with the second one being the one from The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series tied with the ones from Into the Spider-verse. But The Amazing Spider-Man will always be My Live-action Spider-Man and i just hope Garfield knows he was the hero and inspiration for a lot of people. Thanks for this video, I don't share many of your opinions (like Titans, MCU and a few more), but i always love hearing the passion you have even for things you don't love or are your favourite films/video games/heroes, and how you always speak about what would You have done with the characters or how would you have fixed some problems. The only thing I really objected to in all of the movies - and this is literally the only things that I ever bring up as having bothered me in those films - is the portrayal of Harry Osborne in TASM 2. Dane Dehaan was not a good casting choice, and they shouldn't have skipped over Norman for the goblin. One of my favourite scenes in this movie is this little understated bit. It's when Spider-Man creates that big web in the sewers to get a feel for where the Lizard is, and then when we cut back to that a while later, Peter is laying down and playing some dumb little game on his cell phone. It's such a small moment, but I think it's such a great and genuine human touch. He's not in hero-battle mode the whole time. He realistically got bored and started trying to pass the time while waiting for his plan to pay-off like any actual teenager would.

@Merdicano4 жыл бұрын
Sure thing. I feel like this version of Ben took quite a few nods to the Ultimate Comics version of Ben, not on the appearance, but on the character. Because we see him being this person and being a direct anchor to Peter, telling him about his wrongdoings straight-face and not leaving anything sugar-coated and behind. He tells him the truth, something that many of our parents tells us all the time whenever we do something wrong, no matter how painful it is to hear it

I personally never saw them until summer of 2021 and I only herd that they are bad and no one ever recommended them for watching. I feel grateful for the video and really feel they all the crew deserved better. Thanks again. Love the movies too mostly because of the treatment that creators gave to the story and to the characters.

Indeed, I think this Flash and the Spectacular version of Flash are two of the best characterizations of Flash Thompson. Because despite physical looking like the average high school jock, there's a sense of character in them that show they ain't one-note stereotypical bullies, that there's some humility in them. Different from whoever the hell Tony Revolori is playing

Look I’m no film critic, but The Amazing Spider-Man was the first Spider-Man movie I ever saw (just wasn’t into superhero movies as a young kid), and consequently every other Spider-Man movie I’ve seen since then (regardless of critical acclaim) just hasn’t resonated with me nearly as much. I get the love for Toby Maguire, I get the love for Tom Holland, but for me… my Spider-Man will always be Andrew Garfield.

See, The first Raimi movie is 5000000% nostalgic for me (I was 11 when I first watched it so duh), but the others, while certainly not bad (especially 2), just didn't hit me like the original Spider-Man. And then I watched TASM and that was the one that clicked for me, and it's definitely due to Andrew. Kid me would've loved his Peter regardless, but adult me adores it because he felt the most human to me, and even before knowing how much the role meant to him, even on a first watch it's so clear how much of his heart he put into it. It's not that Tobey and Tom didn't have that either, but Andrew just hits different. For that he's also my Spidey.
@ohifonlyx332 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've recently come to accept the fact that I enjoy TASM despite what people think, and that I connect with TASM more than any other film portrayal. And that makes Andrew *MY* Peter Parker, whatever anyone says. I grew out of Tobey's Trilogy immediately after I saw TASM (at age 17). I tried to go back and watch it, but there was too much camp, even for me. And yeah, Tom's great, but missing the raw emotion and depth Andrew has... He's seen enough to be deeply traumatized, more than any other Spider-man, yet his scripts brush over it a lot.
@joseywales14392 жыл бұрын
@@ohifonlyx33 Absolutely - for me TASM is just a gritter, more realistic take on the character, which is always what I go for. That's also the reason why I prefer the Mandalorian over any other Star Wars media... the rest of it is just too campy for my liking.
@ohifonlyx332 жыл бұрын
@@joseywales1439 Well see, I am not a grimdark person. I light fun and sometimes campy stuff... But I also like balance. And I like for the tone to fit the story being told. TASM feels like an intimate, character-driven indie film at times and I think that's why I like it.
@actioninmyphannypack Жыл бұрын
I like that Captain Stacy’s reason for disliking spider man isn’t due to jealousy or pride. It’s based on the fact that he isn’t necessarily helping people at first. He was a super powered person chasing down very specific people in an obvious effort for revenge and letting the guys go when he found out they were the wrong guy.

I think every incarnation of Spider-Man in the movies have something unique and beautiful; the three of them have something to admire. Raimi did a pure adaptation of the best age of the character. With a ridiculous, but earnest style of a comic book of the 60's. That is the Spider-Man that Lee and Ditko would want in a movie. Webb did a pretty realistic reinvention of the character. As the video says, it's a human with more flaws than qualities. Which is not bad, because that way you can see how a person of our tangible world would react to the fact of being super powered. Watts is doing a study of proactivity and passivity and how this both things can have consequences in a teenage superhero. It's a kid that doesn't truly know what's doing, but eventually will come up with a conclusion that this two concepts, if applied wrong, can be his real enemies. Like taking all the ridiculousness of Raimi and the human factor of Webb and blending it together in a experiment that pretty far is managing to be unique. I admire the three movie Spider-Man by what they stand for and what they represent. I think that's we all need to see, the beauty in every one of them.

Honestly, Andrew Garfield is the person that feels the most like comic book spider-man. He quips like him, he’s excited by fighting crime like him, and he’s about as crafty. They only messed up his Peter Parker side by trying to be more angsty than the counterpart. He definitely looks the most similar too.
