I definitely relate to the negative reviews thing. When my first book had its first one star review, it killed me but then I sat back and reminded myself that everyone has their own tastes and opinions and that I write for myself in the end 👍 Love your videos ❤️

I feel you on the 'my routine is weird' thing. I've also been productive but it feels like being productive in an abyss?

Oh man I feel you so much on the timing being wrong. My own WIP is an apocalypse type of story (which I've been working on for years and have gone through multiple drafts until I found the best approach) and now with everything going on in the world I feel so discouraged. I was so excited and motivated to finish this book and publish it because I just love zombie stories and apocalypse settings. Now I just feel like the timing is the worst it can be, because we're more or less living a similar type of thing and this was supposed to be my outlet. Now I just feel trapped. I also don't want my story to be considered as an outcome of this pandemic because that couldn't be further from the truth. As bad as it may sound, I'm glad to know many other writers are experiencing the same thing and going through a slump with their own projects. At least we're all in this together. It's a really difficult time to be creative. Regardless I do hope we all recover some balance soon and find the motivation and inspiration to keep working. And best of luck with the release of your new book and also with continuing the current one!

I did the exact same thing with my first book that I just finished writing! I wrote the 50k words for NaNoWriMo and because I got so busy I took a break for 3 months. I finished it in March and April. I think having a break is good sometimes

I totally get that it hurts when someone gives your book a one star, but keep in mind that a lot people give out one stars super frequently. I read their reviews, and if you don’t want to hear about it don’t read further, but it’s mostly because they expected a different book. Not because they hated it, if a book isn’t what I thought it was gonna be, I’d give it two or three stars, or just dnf it. Love you Katie, don’t be too hard on yourself😘

oh no, it's totally cool. Coming from both sides of it, as a reviewer and a writer, I totally get it. Was just having a moment lol, I'm over it now

Katesbookdate okay good to hear that you’re allright. I tend to stay in those moments for a long time, so I thought I’d reassure you a bit. I admire your courage in general to write a book, I am just way too anxious of other people’s opinions, but your vids really helped me overcome that. And who knows, maybe I’ll write one too someday😊

your book looks so good in print copy! I'm so excited for you!!! For me I only really give a 1 star if I find something morally wrong with it. Like if it's really badly written but not morally tumultuous I would give like 1.5 or 2 but not 1. But I guess everybody rates differently and people like to hate. I'm glad the overall response you've gotten has been positive!

How many scenes do you normally do per chapter? Word count per scene? Don't let 1 star reviews bother you. You are never going to please everyone and you wouldn't want to. You are incredibly talented and you've got this!

I don't really aim for any specific numbers, just whatever feels right/when a chapter or scene feels complete. Thank you!

I just put in a request to my local library today to see if we can get a copy of TAVP :) I would be proud if it gets approved because more people in my county can come across it. Best of luck navigating the ARC reviews and the lead up to release day!

Honestly you shouldn't let one star reviews affect you because I've seen well-known authors (by this I mean popular authors) receive the same reviews sometimes some books don't work for everyone it doesn't mean that everyone will not enjoy it. For many your book will be a breathe of fresh air or a master piece and those reviews are more than amazing. I don't mean anything negative by this comment by the way.

I know that you know this already, but you can write the most amazing book ever, and there will still be someone out there who hates it. There are even people who hate animals, chocolate, and music, but no one would disagree that those are unpopular opinions. No story is going to be for everyone. Try not to let bad reviews shake your confidence.
