In this video Goose & I head up Hwy 395 with no set plan. We just decided to pack up the night before and see where her 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL would take us. And boy....I did not disappoint. We hit all kinds of different terrain overlanding & even got some pretty awesome wheeling in going thru Red Rock Canyon State Park.
We were able to test out our new Gazelle Tent & were surprised at just how quick we were able to get it put up. We ended up spending our final night in a beautiful spot up in the Sequoia National Forest. But that's not to say we didn't have our share of challenges. Let's just say that having a first aid kit & a charged battery jumper are essential pieces of overlanding gear we will always be sure to bring with us.
We hope you enjoy the video & are all healthy & safe!!!

Hi Daniel, my 3.8 Rubi since right after I got it sometimes it acts like the battery is dead. I move the shifter from park and back then it starts fine, known issue with the neutral safety switch. Hopefully they fixed it on new transmissions. Just fyi. Cheers. Hope Mama Goose is better.

First of all, thanks for all your video's. I've commented before about your video's getting me though my masters program. They really helped to motivate me stay focused and live vicariously though your trips. I'm an older adult so returning to school and doing a masters in one year was tough. My wife and I have a 2016 Rubicon w a tent, and we overland and just started backpacking too! Were climbing Mt. Whitney on June 15th and camping in Alabama Hills. We finally stayed in our jeep in Idyllwild last weekend and hiked San Jacinto. Anyway, lets get to your wife's jeep! She needs a Rhino Rack for all of the gear, and a Bestop top for the front, so she could have a convertible. She also needs some lighting, that's just for starters! Happy Wife Happy Life

Daniel great video as always and especially the family interaction. I have the same Micro Starter as you do and you probably know this already, but there is a "Boost" button on the Micro Starter. The Boost setting really helps with next to a dead battery, it gives you extra power. The other thing is that you can charge your Micro Starter as you drive with their cable plugged into your Jeep. I know that you normally have it top off before you start your trip, but in doubt plug it in. You might want to put a ground tarp under your Gazelle, even though they have a pretty decent floor. I have the same tent, but the larger size. They do go up quick as you showed in your video.....Happy trails, John

I always run the fridge off of the Jackery when I have it in the car. Most cigarette lighter outputs in the cars are only rated at something like 1A, and my 82 qt ARB fridge draws 4-5A when the compressor is running. I typically keep the Jackery charging from my 170W solar panel when I’m driving, or from the cigarette lighter if the panel isn’t giving enough juice.

@marco - I have the Noco in my Jeep, but haven't ever thought of hooking it up each eve while at camp...It may be time to upgrade the Jackery 240 to the 1000 or 1500...But her Jeep doesn't have any battery upgrades, solar, etc...But the Noco on her Jeep is probably the most inexpensive fix and then use the Jackery in the eve's...Good call! I keep the NOCO plugged into something while l'm tooling around to guarantee at the end of the day it's topped off. Using the USB, 12v or the 120 off the inverter. I am usually alone and the dead battery is one thing I worry about. I have MT so when available I camp where I can bump and have jumper cables. And dual battery. Like I said dead battery is my only real fear of a breakdown bummer I don't want to deal with.

Looks like you got the Gazelle T3. I've had the T4 now going on 2 1/2 years and love the thing. I actually just got the Overland upgrade package for it with a bigger, roomier, waterproof carry bag, footprint and heavy duty stakes/guylines. The only complaint I've really had is the original carry bag is on the small side and can be hard to pack it up. A quick tip on the rainfly is to install it before you pop the roof up. It goes on much quicker and easier!

I have a 18 JLU and I plug my fridge into the 12volt in the back and it drained the battery in no time and the Jeep would not start. I did a little investigating and found that the 12 volt plug in the back is connected to the small battery under the fuse box. So I ran the arb 12 volt harness from the large battery to the back and now plug the fridge into that and have never had any issue starting the Jeep. You might look into that mines the 3.6 engine.

Sup 395. Question: I live in the IE. I have a 98 3rd gen and would like to take my wife on beginners trail. She has a slight bad back. But we love the outdoors. I’ve seen lots of videos you guys do in big bear. If you could recommend a spot or two. I’d appreciate it. Thanks and happy trails.

Sounds like the second battery is dead. Top battery is not for starting the Jeep.
