I can’t believe this, so happy about it, at same time while I was about to be recruited about 3 months ago this guy from the Airforce was completely rude and ignorant about this, in his words “you can never join the Airforce with AIDS”, I said “but that’s not the case, I am undetectable” and then he started yelling at me over the phone and said I would never be able to join the military. It was an awful experience 🙁

Mate you may want to keep it to yourself. As someone with ten years hiv experience you may not want to tell ANYONE - no family no friends, as sorry but NOBODY can ‘not talk’ about HIV, people just love to discuss it behind your back so make sure. Also a family member abandoned me when I told them. I wish to God I hadn’t told anybody at all as I would now have a totally normal life! Telling people was my mistake.. so be careful brother
@Healingpowerofmusic_Corruption2 жыл бұрын
When you get ‘undetectable’ you don’t need to tell partners! So your normal! So trust me it’s best not telling anyone, at least in the UK it is. But get undetectable and live normally, keep it to yourself, have sex, fall in love, take your tablet religiously and go for bloods, you don’t need condoms if your undetectable and you don’t need to tell them, the law says we don’t if we are undetectable

You can’t enlist with HIV, if you catch it while your in you can finish the remainder of you contract but you cannot reenlist, and I get it I was in the military in the war zone and honestly it can be very dangerous for for others if someone with hiv in the battle zone gets injured, however hiv is not a death sentence anymore and people can live a very healthy life and find a path in life

Having HIV for 10 years and 8 years in full blown AIDS let me say that taking the medications for so long is in itself destructive. I am now in kidney failure stage - 3, I have developed epilepsy: having both major & minor seizures, I also have neuropathy: experiencing pain every moment of everyday, I am weak & fatigued most of the time, additionally I have gone through periods of wasting: dropping to 75 pounds at onetime in my life. While I have gained some weight back, I have lost muscle tissues that I will never regain. While COVID - 19 has a hand full of variants, HIV has 50 million plus variants. I have lived by faith at times when there were no meds available for my strain of HIV. I have a hyper immune system but I am in full blown AIDS because I am systematic and a vaccine would be of no benefit to me because of the damage that has already been inflicted on my body. Prayers are appreciated.

The injections make me nervous and the reason is blood levels. They swapped people on subutex to injections one a month and everyone is in pain the last week or two. As the drug doesn’t release right so you get high levels at the start and low at the end. A daily tablet keeps it linear.. so I won’t be going on any monthly injection!

The military doesn't really have an excuse other than cost. There are long-lasting injections that make deployment issues with adherence to a daily pill regimen a non-issue. Cabenuva, Rukobia and Sunlenca come to mind.

Are other diseases like diabetes allowed in the US military? Is it the daily meds that are the issue (which may be a challenge in the field) or is it homophobia?
@RaifDerrazi3 жыл бұрын
I'd be curious to know...but yea it seems like a decision that on the outside is based on out-dated science, but is actually motivated by prejudice. that's usually how these things go. 'My facts justify my discrimination!'
@amazonfire81453 жыл бұрын
It's a logistics issue with the daily medicine that has to be administered daily by those that have a positive status. If you're off on mission that may take months, you're comprising your supply of obligatory daily medicine that needs to be taken. There are multiple cures for hiv, already. There are broad neutralizing antibodies and gene cures, both capable of curing illness, without the need of taking a daily treatment.
